Dinosaurs and pirates? What’s not to love? Colorful illustrations and humorous text make this a picture book kids will reach for. You will love this fun story!

I requested this for my daughter and she absolutely loved it. She was so entertained and we still read it a few times a month at bed time.

I love anything pirate so the thought of dinosaurs who are pirates sounds pretty fun. The illustrations are great too.

This book was too cute. Kids love pirates and kids love dinosaurs. This one combines the two. Cute illustrations and cute story.

I was expecting more from “A Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate.” I wasn’t a fan of the illustrations and the story wasn’t as funny as I was expecting it to be. Kids will probably enjoy the bathroom humor, but it wasn’t for me.

For kids who love pirates and/or dinosaurs, this book contains both! However, the combination doesn't work out so well -- the stegosaurus is not a very good pirate, through no real fault of his own. The illustrations are cute and the quiz at the back is a fun addition. My younger student would like this book.

While the idea is cute, I felt the story left me wanting something more. I did like the glossaries in the back for dino and pirate words as well as the additional fact page with a picture of what a real stegosaurus might have looked like. Nice, colorful illustrations.
Gary has just been fired from his job as a pirate, but he thought he did a pretty good job! He takes the reader through the tasks he was asked to do and we find out what went wrong with each situation.

I adore dinosaurs and pirates are pretty cool so I figured why not? I was not disappointed. We're given very reasonable reasons as to why a stegosaurus is not pirate material and the illustrations are perfect. I also really enjoyed the reflection questions at the back of the book along with the little factoids about this particular dinosaur. I think kids will find this to be a funny read.

Have you ever wondered what it would look like if a Stegosaurus was a pirate? This adorable children's book will show you exactly what it would look like if a Stegosaurus boarded the pirate ship and became part of the crew! Poor Stegosaurus has a tough time trying to fit in, quite literally when the captain wants him to dress like a pirate! He also discovers that he doesn't eat foods like the rest of the crew, because he is an herbivore. Stegosaurus tries his best counting treasure, but that is also not the job for him! Children will enjoy the vibrant illustrations and silly story as they discover that "Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate"! This is a wonderful story, with beautiful illustrations that will keep children engaged and laughing as they read this story!
This book also has some great information at the end of the story that will give children more information about dinosaurs, with one page asking questions (and also gives page number references where they can find the answers), also includes a Stegosaurus fact page, and a glossary that has both dinosaur and pirate vocabulary words found in the book. I found the addition of these pages helpful and really liked that the illustrations continued throughout these pages as well. Overall, this is a wonderful book!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Dinosaurs and pirates in one book. What's not to like? The plot isn't complex but it's fun and well supported by the illustrations. It might encourage a critical thinking discussion in the vein of other things that would make a dinosaur ill-suited to piracy.

I love, love, LOVE coming across gems like "A Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate." This is a work I would grab immediately for story time at the library as the tale is well-paced, funny, and engaging for children. The cherry on the top is the incredible artwork in this book. The pictures are simplistic enough for very young readers, but at the same time have lots of extra details included that invite discovery to occur every time the book is pulled out. Now, I know I'm already selling the snot out of this work but ladies and gentlemen! IT. GETS. BETTER. The "home run" for me, especially as a Librarian, are the questions at the back that encourage the reader to return to the tale to find answers to. The author also provides a glossary (yes ma'am!) and a full page of extra dino-facts for your little readers to gobble-up! "A Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate" is one of those books that check every single early literacy box for me. I would highly recommend this work for libraries, families, and classrooms. I can't wait to see what else this author and illustrator come up with! Kudos!!

This is a cute story and the pictures are wonderful. Any child that enjoys dinosaur books will enjoy this story. You will like the characters. If you enjoy pirate stories for the younger ones then you will like this book.

While I will likely purchase "Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate" (and the rest of the series) for my school library, I was slightly disappointed. When reviewing pictures books, I'm considering if it would make a good read-aloud (story or illustrations). I need at least one or the other (both is fantastic) to keep my audience interested. I may not have like it as much as another dinosaur series with dinosaur silliness, but I'm sure my students will.

The review questions and additional information at the end is a nice bonus.

In this book, the world of dinosaurs and pirates collide for a cute tale with even cuter illustrations.
Gary the stegosaurus wants to be a pirate, but it's a little difficult when the clothes don't fit and the ship nearly topples over because your body is too big, and your prickly tail shreds the sails.
Captain One-Tooth and the crew give Gary a chance, but we quickly find out that a stegosaurus just would not be a very good pirate! What career is he gonna try next? It'll make you laugh!

There's an interactive bit at the end of this book - a list of questions that you have to peruse back through the book to find the answers to - that spruces up the book a bit too, and makes it more fun for readers. I think this book would be great for kids around the age of 5-8.

Gary the Stegosaurus tried his best to be a pirate, but the clothes didn't fit, he couldn't eat the food, and he's just simply too big to have on a boat! The large and brightly colored illustrations were a delight - especially the details showing just how much he didn't fit in on the pirate ship. I sort of liked the questions at the end - I hadn't noticed any of the hidden answers initially, but I just wish they hadn't included the page numbers to look at as hunting through all of the pictures and then trying to match answers to the questions would have been a much better "treasure hunt" as it were. But overall it was cute and I think any small child into dinos and pirates would enjoy.

A fun book for dino and/or pirate enthusiasts! The story of a stegosaurus who wants to be a pirate, but encounters some difficulties along the way, is fun, silly, and peppered with facts making for a enjoyable read for young readers. I liked the inclusion of stegosaurus facts, a look-and-find in the artwork, a glossary (for dino's and pirates), and discussion questions; this enhanced the reading experience and makes this a good option for classroom use.

Gary the Stegosaurus tells us all about his quick adventure as a pirate. He wanted to be a good pirate, but things just didn't seem to work out. His clothes didn't fit, he accidentally shredded the sails, and he's literally too big for the ship!

This was a lot of fun. We quickly learn that something like being a pirate may seem like a lot of fun but it isn't for everyone. It's always a good idea to try, though!

I love that there are pages in the back of this picture book with interactive material such as discussion questions, a glossary for both dino and pirate words that some might not know, facts about stegosauruses, and more!

A very intriguing and funny book that not only cuddles the imagination but, engages the readers intellectual thinking, as well! I loved reading this book with my son and he enjoyed the games and questions in the end! Great job on this children's book and keep up the great work!

Gary the stegosaurus was just fired from this pirate job. But it was *not* his fault! From mis-sized clothes to almost sinking the boat from his weight, Gary has a tough go at being a pirate. Gary tries his best, but how was he supposed to know the poop deck isn't a bathroom?!

Kids who like dinosaurs or pirates will enjoy Gary's fairly amusing mishaps.

My almost 5 year old son thought this book was funny and wanted to read it again right after finishing it. That says something good about a children's book in my mind and is what made me give it an extra star. I thought it was a little bland, so that took some stars off for me. I'd say it's best for the preschool to kindergarten age group. Thank you to Capstone publishing for the ARC.
