Normally, I don't give a rating for poetry. I don't because someone put their thoughts and emotions and in some cases, personal stories in short lines in order to make the reader feel. Sometimes that is successful other times it is not. But I rated this book because it should not be considered poetry. I am all for random pieces thoughts scattered across pages. What I am not for is writing that has little or no feeling behind it and tries to come off as a joke with a message behind it.

The readings were more like things that may have happened to me and quirky 3 liners and maybe some advice. I didn't feel the author put her heart into this. I felt nothing as I read. But I did feel annoyance about the time I wasted going through the book. Yes, this is harsh but this is with the intent to provide criticism because not everyone is poet or a writer. The funny thing about this is the author mentions being a youtube star who decided to write a book.

For me right there, it explains everything.

These kind of read like drunk tweets. I'm not sure what the author was thinking but this was definitely not for me.

I have been a subscriber to Gabbie Hanna’s Youtube channel The Gabbie Show for over a year now. I even talked about her channel in my post about Non-Bookish Youtubers I Can’t Stop Watching, so I mean, all I can say is I love this girl. Every single time one of her videos pops up in my subscriptions on Youtube, I get excited and click right away. I love that she’s so open about her life, her struggles with anxiety, and her dating follies. I love her quirky faces (and no I ain’t calling you ugly boo boo), and her intriguing personality. While I already felt like I knew Gabbie on a personal level, reading Adultolescence gave me an even deeper look into her soul.

With inspiration from Bo Burnham (who is one of my favorite people of all time), Gabbie shares her poetry as well as her artistic side, with poems ranging from extremely deep and meaningful, to some vastly lighter and cute. Gabbie explores the idea of being an adult, but not grown up, which I can totally relate to on so many levels. I have kids of my own, but I still feel like a kid myself. It’s a weird sensation, and Gabbie illustrates it so well, so so well, in this book.

There are poems for every mood, and poems of plenty of different styles. Also, there is advice, which to be honest was a great break in between poems. This book made me laugh, think, and cry-I think that was the goal, and she did a great job obtaining that.

Here are a few of my favorite entries in the book:

Stranger: which is about love lost, very deep, very bittersweet, and heartbreaking.

Fashion: about wearing your heart on your sleeve, and getting screwed over because of it.

Anxiety: which I can relate to 110%.

Fair: which makes a good point about life.

The illustrations in this book are impeccable as well, I had no idea that Gabbie was an illustrator! There is an intricacy and an intimacy to her work that just left me in awe. See if you can spot some of her friends through out the pages as well.

Honestly, I could go on and on, this book is full of wonderment. I thoroughly enjoyed every second I spent reading this, and I am grateful to Netgalley for providing it for me, and to Gabbie for taking all of her beautiful heart and splashing it on these pages. You done good girl, you done good. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, I can’t wait for you to experience the beauty.

This is the first book by Gabbie Hanna, more commonly known as TheGabbieShow. She's a pretty well known YouTuber, and I have to admit I'm a fan of her story time videos. I was happy to get a copy of her book, because I relate to her in a lot of ways. I was pleasantly surprised that it's not just another vlogger biography, but a book of poetry. That's pretty cool.

The book is filled with doodles and artwork that are nice. They look very "something I drew during math class" to me, which works with the title and theme of the book, and they matched well with what was going on in the poems.

The poems themselves for me were hit and miss. They're in different forms- some that rhyme, some that don't, some that are long, some single verse, etc. Some of them were really good and thought provoking, or hit pretty close to home. Others, not so much. Some of them are just kind of one liners that seem like funny tweets or facebook statuses. Some of them also use chat speak, which I "get" but find really irritating.

Some of the poems I liked best are "Dollhouse", "Dolly" and "Worry".

Overall, I enjoyed reading this. It's a pretty short read, but as I mentioned, some poems are longer than others. It's a nice collection to my YouTuber shelf, and I'm sure fans of hers will enjoy it.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

how you can go your entire life
Without someone

you can't imagine a minute
without them

It was captivating, I finished it in one day some of the poems were funny and some of them serious.Gabbie did an amazing job with this one, I hope we can see more like this by her soon!

I am disappointed to say that this book was not my cup of tea.

I had to stop after about half the poems. I will admit, I do not know much about poetry. I feel bad putting a low rating on something that is the author's feelings, but personally I felt it was badly written and just odd. It seemed childish, which I guess fits the theme of the book and title.

The poems are personal to Gabbie and I feel like they will resonate with some people; just not me.

I don't know much about her, but she genuinely seems like a nice person. She is trying to be funny in the book, even with her more depressing poems and it didn't work for me. However, I do think she can be funny. I've seen some of her videos randomly while going on a YouTube binge, as a person is want to do when it is late at night and they can't sleep.

A series of poems in graphic novel form...the images are fitting to the pieces, in a stark black and white. The poems are at times silly, at times darkly realistic and gripping. My favorite (although that seems grim to say) was "Anxiety". The stark reality of the piece coupled with the gripping image on the face page really struck a chord with me.

This was really bad. I really like TheGabbieShow so I was hoping these poems would be good but they seemed more to make a mockery of poetry and the publishing industry. The author even confessed that some poems were there simply to fill pages. This is very disappointing.

Right off the bat I'm going to state that I'm not someone who is super into YouTubers, so I'm always interested to read their writing from an unbiased point of view. A lot of times a book only sells because it's written by a celebrity, no matter how good or bad the writing is. This book pleasantly surprised me. It was witty, sad and completely relatable. I could definitely tell reading this that it was a debut collection but I wouldn't be opposed to reading more of her stuff. Good job Gabbie.
