Great faith based Romance book. Fun read great twist on the Bachelor/Bachelorette Reality Dating shows.

I'm not actually into watching The Bachelor type shows, but I LOVE that trope. I was expecting a little more of the behind-the-scenes of the show, but this story starts will after the season ended. William chose Hanna and once the show started airing, they broke up. Now, for various reasons, they are back together--but only for show, as it's all fake.

William is hard-working, but he's also a bit of a playboy. Hanna is very Christian and has the nickname "Holy Hanna," which shows how opposite they are. Sometimes opposite personalities and characteristics serve as a magnet, but they almost seemed to repel each other--until that lurking chemistry got the best of them. I did enjoy their characters, but sometimes wished the tiniest things didn't set them off, especially Hanna.

There are many factors driving this couple together and pushing them apart, but it was an entertaining journey to watch them grow up and recognize true feelings and desires.

Content: moderate+ religion; mild+ romance (kissing/light innuendo); mild moments of peril/creep factor

I have not seen the shows The Bachelor and The Bachelorette that The Engagement Plot references. However, I thought this might be a fun book to read, and I was right.

Hanna Knight, at the instigation of her best friend, entered to be on the show The Price of Love. Though not really excited when she was chosen, Hanna felt it would be a great opportunity for highlighting her faith and beliefs. Little did she know...

William Preston, CEO of a cosmetics company, was the bachelor who at the instigation of his company, went on the show, then decided to choose Hanna.

Krista Phillips does a great job of showing the angst and heartache Hanna suffers because of William’s careless words on national television. She also does a wonderful job of illustrating how to hold onto your faith when things become rocky. When Hanna becomes angry, hurt and frustrated at times, the story shows the human side of Christians as well.

The Engagement Plot has a cute, conceivable ending interspersed with humor, faith and romance.

I had not read any books by Krista Phillips before, but I will be reading more after reading The Engagement Plot.

I received this book from NetGalley. However, my review is voluntary.

Hanna was a contestant on a Bachelor-style reality TV show and ends up winning William’s heart. However, he falsely insinuates in a post-show interview that they slept together during their special weekend away, ruining her reputation as a Christian saving herself for marriage. Furious and heartbroken, Hanna retreats to her father’s farm in small town Minnesota. However, Will shows up several months later to apologize and to ask for her help. His company’s sales are tanking and he’s at risk of losing his CEO job. He suggests pretending they’re still engaged to try to help erase the scandal and salvage Hannah’s reputation and to get the public to see him (and his company) a more favorable light. Hanna agrees but they both have to figure out what really matters when they start falling in love for real.

This was a cute, clean romance. A bit predictable but still very enjoyable. The plot does seem to get bogged down at times, but overall it was a good read. I appreciated the Christian content about faith, grace, and redemption, although it was a bit heavy-handed at times. But I love having more Christ-centered books out in the world! Thanks to NetGalley for the free ebook.

This is the first book that I have read by Krista Phillips and it definitely won’t be the last! I was hooked in the first page and was consumed!

Thanks for sending me an arc, I do appreciate it. I wasn't able to get into this one and haven't been able to get back to it so I won't be leaving an official review at this time.

This book was fairly disjointed and fell flat for me. This is too bad because the premise sounds great. I wanted more romantic comedy but it was more like a comedy of errors.

I am just going to say it and you can judge me in the comments, to your friends, even just in your head if that works for you. . . my guilty summer pleasure is Big Brother.  It's really the only reality show that has piqued my interest enough to have me coming back season after season.  You can keep Survivor, all the talent shows, and The Bachelor (Bachelorette).  So, why did I voluntarily pick up a book about a contestant on a reality show similar to The Bachelor (The Price of Love)?  Can I say Zingbot made me do it?  Here's the deal, out side of that summer secret I shared above I can take or leave most reality shows but I can't walk away from a book that has an intriguing synopsis.  I am not a girl you are going to lure in by the cover of the book but the back cover?  That's a different story!  That's where the gold is and that is what draws me to a book.

What can go wrong?  A busy CEO who shot to the top quite young and very unexpectedly?  A down to earth famer's daughter who happens to also teach kindergarten?  Really.  What. Could. Possibly. Go. Wrong.  Try everything.  I mean when the world dubs you Holy Hannah and the man you thought you had actually developed something with hints, to the same world, that there might have been some hanky panky the real question is what can go right?  Here's the deal though, once you remove all the Hollywood wannabe reality television from the mix what you end up with as a boy and a girl who really have a chance at love if they can just get out of their own ways.  If they can just learn to first trust themselves then they can learn to trust each other.  The real each other and not whatever they have built up in their heads about each other.  Therein lies the dilemma of every single boy meets girl story ever lived.

'The Engagement Plot' is so much more than just a cheeky love story.  There's some intrigue, a whole lot of backstabbing - oh wait yeah reality TV can do that to people, and so many well developed personalities that I wish were real people that I could sit down and meet.  I truly did enjoy this book and it's my first foray into Krista Phillips and it won't be my last.  She managed to take a genre of television that doesn't hit my mark and craft it into a book that hit all the marks for me.  It's no Big Brother, mind you, but The Price of Love has it's own weekend guilty pleasure that I think any reader who likes their romance with a little more depth and a lot more personality can get behind.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Six months ago Will proposed to Hanna on national TV after a whirlwind of dream dates and exotic locations, then he broke her heart.

Hanna is back home in Minnesota recovering her reputation and waiting for the media to forget her name. But when a winter storm brings an unexpected guest with an unorthodox solution to both their problems--a fake engagement.

Will hasn't been able to forget about Hanna, and his company is in trouble, will they be able to help his business and fix Hanna's reputation without losing their hearts?

A delightful, delicious romp of a romantic comedy perfect for fans of reality dating shows. Hanna is struggling with the aftermath of the dating show, trying to clear her name of insinuations and misconceptions that millions were led to believe by her former fiance, Will. Hanna is a small-town girl, she is very close to her father and comes from humble seed, she is serious about her faith and her reputation. Hanna is stronger than she thinks, I admired her faith and vulnerability. I loved her friendship with Carly, everybody needs a Carly in their life!

Will is a wealthy, big city, CEO, he is drawn to Hanna because he sees something different in her. Their chemistry is amazing, as opposites who compliment each other perfectly. I especially loved how Will's parents welcomed Hanna with open arms, as well as his father's wisdom.

Overall, this was a pleasure to read, great interaction, fantastic chemistry, filled with humor, and faith. I liked how it looks at how reality shows put a lot of pressure on people and how suddenly a person's life gets thrown under a microscope with fame, as well as the courage that it takes to stay true to one's self and faith. I thought that Ms. Phillips did a great job of imagining what it might be like to have your life changed forever by a dating show, bringing to life the struggles of being in the public eye and staying true to one's convictions. I also really liked how Hanna grows over the course of the book coming to some new realizations, and learning to trust that everything in in God's hands. Fast-paced with a fantastic plot, I found this book hard to put down and nearly read it all in one day! A terrific read for fans of romantic comedy.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a sweet, fun, and quick read. The conflict/tension in the story was not too intense, but enough to keep me turning the pages to find out what happened next.

What happens when CEO William steals the heart of Hanna on a reality dating show and then shatters it in front of millions of viewers? That is what we find out in The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips.

I haven't watched reality TV dating shows, but I have read a few books by people who have been on them, so the concept of this story intrigued me.

When I first started this book, I expected most of it to take place during the filming of the reality show. It actually took place after the fact. Hanna is back at home and having trouble getting back to "normal life" because of comments William made about their relationship.

William's board of directors originally wanted him on the show to boost numbers, but now that the show is over and he and Hanna are not together, sales are going down. Sales are down enough that William's board wants him to make amends with Hanna.

This story was an okay read. I liked the title of the show being called The Price of Love because it fit very well with the theme of the story. While the storyline was certainly different than I expected it to be, there were parts that were very entertaining and then there were parts that seemed too far fetched.

This book was very hard to get into and it didn't really keep my attention. I idea behind the story seemed cute and I hoped it would pick up at some point but it just didn't. The Engagement Plot was a bit predictable. It was a light read but I probably won't read it again.

This book presents a ‘What happens after?’ for ‘The Bachelor/Bachelorette’ type of show. Honestly, those shows are shows that I don’t enjoy. However, this book I did enjoy. The author has a great writing style and the book is a nice read for when you want to relax or want a change of pace.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader’s copy of this book but the opinions expressed are my own.

William Preston is a very handsome CEO who decides to go on a TV dating show called The Price of Love. He chooses Hanna Knight, a simple, home town, God fearing woman (they start to refer to as Holy Hanna) who is ready to give Will her heart. That is until he humiliated her in front of millions of TV viewers. Then Will shows up in Minnesota, where Hanna lives, to ask for her forgiveness and to see if she would be his fake fiancé. Being his fake fiancé would perhaps stop the gossip about them and help him with his job. Things go pretty well at first. Hanna and Will find they haven’t lost their attraction for each other. You might even call it love. But then things start happening that causes their plan to spin out of control. Now there is even more scandal and Will’s job is on the line. Can Hanna and Will weather the storm of all that is thrown at them or will this separate them forever?

This is my first book by Krista Phillips but it certainly won’t be my last. The cover is what first drew me to want to read the book but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was an interesting plot that keeps you entertained from cover to cover. The people are well-drawn and true-to-life. You know…they have issues just like we do. Hanna was someone the reader could easily relate to. She wants to do the right thing but sometimes it doesn’t work out the way you think it’s gonna. I understand that! Will was a very likable guy; a good hero really. (except for the stupid thing he said on the show). Unfortunately, deep hurt caused him to set aside his faith. You can understand why as you read the story. The interaction between them was fun and sometimes a little frustrating but that’s part of the fun. The secondary characters were great and I liked getting to know them. You’ll find a wonderful balance of humous (I laughed out loud) and serious situations which really make it such a pleasure to read. If you enjoy misunderstandings and mayhem with a side of serious then you will love The Engagement Plot!

A few favorite moments:

They’d always been opposite, even from the first day of taping for The Price of Love. He, the CEO bachelor looking for love, and she, the small-town teacher with morals tighter than some of the other contestants’ skinny jeans.

“Hanna, you have to trust me. I’m trying to fix this. So unless you want me to kiss you to quiet you down, I suggest you hush. I’m game either way”

“You gave them the power to wound you instead of seeking the One who had the power to rescue you.”

Oh my this book! If you love the Bachelor this book will right up your alley with all the drama and twist and turns. Will they really fall in the love? That’s for me to know and you to find out! Hee hee!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

Hanna thought she had found true love without compromising her Christian values on the reality show The Price of Love, but Will broke her heart with his interview on the season finale by implying on national TV that Hanna had slept with him. When Will shows up in her small Minnesota hometown 6 months later to make amends, she doesn't want to forgive him. Tabloids catch wind of Will being in Hanna's hometown, though, and start spreading even worse rumors. Somehow, Hanna finds herself agreeing to pretend to be Will's fiance to restore her reputation and save Will's job.

This was a clean romantic comedy with characters you can root for. This book is a cute book to escape into for fans of Christian fiction and romantic comedy.

William breaks Hanna’s heart on television after they both are on The Price of Love. A distraught Hanna goes home to Minnesota, hoping time will heal all and no one will remember her.

Unfortunately, after Will destroys Hanna in a television interview, Hanna wants nothing to do with him. But Will needs help to save his COE position and he believes pretending to be engaged to Hanna will help him do that. They think their reputations will be salvaged by this pretence, not recognizing that they will truly fall for each other.

This was a fun, sweet read.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest review.
