I was really looking forward to this book, but it just didn't live up to the hype. It moved slowly and was predicable. I didn't really have much interest in any of the characters. This one just wasn't for me!

<i>The Wedding Date</i> is a great deal of fun. There are some traditional contemporary romance beats to it-- an implausible meet-cute in a stuck elevator, needing to act as a cute doctor's fake girlfriend for his ex-girlfriend's wedding, and no one having any refractory period at all between bouts of romance. But Guillory spends significant time on Alexa's professional drive, her friends, and her relationship with her sister, all which round out her character and her growth over the course of the book. I appreciated how the book touched on race, and how the white Drew was both well-meaning and not very thoughtful about how Alexa experienced the world as a black woman. The small moments felt real, and the relationship was steamy, which is the sign of a good romance.

Do you want to read a super cute romance novel that might as well be a 90s romcom? Then order this book immediately! It centers on a black woman from Berkeley, the mayor's chief of staff, who meets-cute in a broken elevator with a cute white doctor who needs a date to his ex's wedding, and the usual romance story shenanigans ensue, but it was all very charming and I liked how Guillory handled the interracial romance. Basically a fun delight about the importance of good communication. A-.

This smart, sexy novel from Jasmine Guillory is a delight from start to finish. A contemporary romance that's funny, sweet, and sexy while also offering readers some substance, this is one that should fly off the shelves. In heroine Alexa, Guillory creates a believable and likable woman with depth. Alexa's insecurities are easy to relate to and help make her a more well-rounded character. Drew is a charming love interest whose personality compliments Alexa's well, and their connection--both physical and emotional--is palpable on every page.

I couldn't put this one down. It's charming, sexy, and compelling, and it is the perfect book version of a romantic comedy movie. This is an honest portrayal of what it's like to fall in love, even in the most unlikely of circumstances. Guillory is an author to watch, and this novel is guaranteed to satisfy readers.

I always try to find new authors and I am so glad I picked up this book.

A chance meeting in an elevator with a hot guy is would never happen to me but lucky Alexa!  A HOT, funny, sexy guy is stuck with her in the elevator with nothing but time and the sparks begin.  He's in town for his ex-girlfriends wedding and his date canceled last minute.  She's a smart, fun loving girl who's at the hotel to meet with her sister for a celebration and bam...fate takes a hand in their lives.

What starts out as a "can you be my fake date?", turns into a really fun, sexy, funny and enjoyable read.

Alexa and Drew aren't your everyday couple we read about often.  I loved reading about this interracial couple.  We don't often see that in romance, but I love to see diversity while reading and seeing the pitfalls that often can come, even in this day and age.

Great debut novel by this author!

Perhaps my expectations were set too high but this didn´t grab me like I had hoped. I like the premise and the beginning really drew me in but then it fizzled. There were some very good parts, I appreciated that Alexa was black and didn´t shy away from letting Drew know that certain social situations could be/were difficult for her.

This is either a perfect beach read, or a great way to cheer up a gloomy winter day. Either way, it's a funny and romantic romp for whenever you need some stress-free reading.

I really expected a lot more from this one, especially after being excited for a book about a diverse couple. Unfortunately, I found Drew, the love interest, supremely annoying and doing something surprisingly juvenile that didn't fit with his suave-guy characterization. Alexa was a fun, interesting character that deserved better than the guy written for her.

This was perfectly competent book, but I wasn't as delighted as I expected. Maybe it's that I'm not a big romance reader, but it felt like nothing much really happened in it. It was great to see a black heroine in a romance, and the writing was good, but most of the trouble in the relationship is just miscommunications that could be, and are, easily smoothed away. I enjoyed the fake relationship aspect, but that was dispensed with by about 1/4 of the way into the book.

I was skeptical on the first page - the initial prose seemed slightly awkward - but I was completely won over by the second page and could not put this book down! I totally fell in love with it, 100%. This absolutely needs to be a movie. I really loved that the problems the couple had were so real. I thought I could see where the plot was going at the beginning and what their typical rom-com problems would be, and Guillory totally subverted those expectations. Instead, the couple communicated about misunderstandings, apologized to each other when they made wrong assumptions, and got on with the romance. I need Guillory to write 10 more books TOMORROW.

A quick, light romance read. A little more chick lit than women’s fiction, but if you are looking for that happy ending, with lots of light banter and sex, this is for you. Just okay for me, the premise was cute. Alexa meets Drew when their elevator stalls, and ends up pretending to be his plus one at his ex girlfriends wedding. Predictable but fun.

When Drew and Alexa get stuck in an elevator neither expects what comes next. After an instant connection Drew begs her to be his plus one at a weekend wedding. But being his 'fake' girlfriend doesn't seem fake but neither is willing to be the first to reveal their feelings. A fun story of instant connection, fear of revealing too much too soon, and finding happiness that will have you rooting for Alexa and Drew.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. The characters were so well drawn and I loved spending tie with them. I will recommend this to romance readers at my library.

This is a great contemporary romance that has an excellent portrayal of a successful black woman. Alexa and Drew's whirlwind romance was a delight and the pages just flew right by. My only issue is that there wasn't a whole lot of conflict in their romance and it was mostly just miscommunication issues that could have easily been resolve. But it was still a lot of fun and I look forward to recommending this to contemporary romance readers.

This contemporary romantic comedy hooked me with the ‘stuck in an elevator’ meet cute. How perfect is that?! I thoroughly enjoyed this story of two professionals trying to fit a somewhat unconventional relationship into their seemingly busy lives due to the distances between their homes, jobs, and even race. The heroine is such a spunky character and when she collides with the hero who is afraid of commitment, sparks definitely fly. The characters’ banter is both creative and comedic, without being cheesy. I love the fact that they both work hard to earn their HEA. This is, hands down, one of the best written romantic comedies of the year and I cannot recommend it enough to readers everywhere.

I couldn't wait for this to show up on Netgalley after it seemed like all my favorite twitter users were tweeting about how great it was. Now I'm questioning their tastes because this book was really...not that good. I never felt like I really knew the characters & therefore didn't care that much about them. The relationship felt forced & while I definitely don't have a problem with sex in books-- all they did the entire 320 pages was have sex, Drew pawing at Alexa's boob (oh my god, how many times was he doing something to her boob, it was so not a turn on), or eating out. I don't see how anyone could afford to eat that much take out *and* afford plane tickets every single weekend.
There also wasn't really a plot climax-- they have a boring not-at-all dramatic fight & then they make up and the book is over. What was the point of it all.
The biracial coupling was cool & I'd love to read more from that perspective, but I think I was hoping to be swept off my feet by The Wedding Date & instead fell flat.

This was a cute, light romance novel and I'd love to see more from the author.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. From the meet-cute to the romantic happy ending, I could not put this book down. The characters are smart, relatable, and well-rounded. The main character is a smart, successful, quirky black woman, which we do not see nearly enough of in romance novels. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Cute and funny, sweet and sexy. The Wedding Date isn't the type of book that I'd normally read, but I'm so glad I did!. The characters are fully-realized and relatable (even when you want to shake them in frustration).

Fun weekend read with likable characters and plenty of romance.
