The Wedding Date is a sweet, charming and swoon-worthy romance. I fell in love with the characters from the very first meeting. The sparks were instant and the banter was just so easy and so entertaining. I just knew this was going to be a read that would sweep me off of my feet.

I loved the idea behind this story. I am a total sucker for fake relationship romances and I truly loved seeing this one develop and turn into something more. The characters are real and flawed in their own ways. The road to happily ever after wasn't an easy one, but definitely one that you can't help but root for.

Overall, I thought this was a really sweet and enjoyable read. It had just the right amount of drama, romance, sexiness and humor. I look forward to checking out more from this author in the future.

I started reading this one as a preview through another book reviewing website and was hooked. It hits all the typical meet cute romantic comedy notes, but with new beats-an interracial relationship and a story that acknowledges these potential difficulties, a heroine with not only an important job that she does ACTUAL WORK at instead of just mooning over the hero..This one was a real treat.

This is the perfect book for a rainy day, a vacation read, or for one of those days when you just need a happy ending. Alexa and Drew were so fun to read about, and you were rooting for them to make it work. It was such a nice change from the norm that they're a biracial couple. That aspect of their relationship definitely wasn't the focus of the book, which in turn made it feel like a more realistic portrayal. I enjoyed this from start to finish and I can't wait to read more from Jasmine Guillory.

THE WEDDING DATE, by Jasmine Guillory, is beyond charming–it’s a wonderful love story that will please the most romantic of hearts.

This contemporary romance follows Drew and Alexa through one of my favorite tropes: the impromptu, fake relationship, to fool friends and family, that turns into more. If you’ve seen the movie of the same name, then you know how satisfying these storylines can be. This one doesn’t involve a sexy, male prostitute, but it features the crackling chemistry between the protagonists, and will leave you giddy with warmth.

THE WEDDING DATE opens with Alexa and Drew trapped in an elevator. After some cute dialogue, it doesn’t take long for the reader to feel their connection, and to get a feel for them as individuals. Alexa is straight-laced, a career woman, and a little insecure and unsure of herself when dealing with guys. Drew is self-confident, more extroverted, used to being in control in relationships, but he finds himself caught off guard when he meets a curvy, little nerdy, woman in the elevator. He follows the crazy impulse to invite her to be his much needed date for a wedding that’s sure to be awkward. What follows is the kind of romance that envelopes you in a cloud of cuteness, sweetness, humor, and light emotionality that’ll have you lost to the world.

I enjoyed THE WEDDING DATE mainly because of two reasons: the characters and the pace of the storyline. The writing, prose, didn’t leave much of an impression, but the nicely diverse and balanced cast, as well as the surprisingly irresistible plot caused me to gulp this down in less than a day. (That’s quick for me!) I loved Alexa because of her passion, her relatable insecurities, her warmth, and her appetite. (Seriously, they eat a lot in this book.) And I loved Drew because of how he treated Alexa. Also, because he’s a hot pediatrician, and a relatable, romantic hero who had moments of redeemable foolishness that ultimately made him more likable than I expected.

I loved the storyline because of the intimate moments between Alexa and Drew. This is the kind of romance that features small, heated touches, meaningful glances, playful moments and banter, and just the protagonists ~chilling with each other~ and getting to know each other. The sexy moments are fade-to-black, so it’s really just about how compatible they are mentally and how right they feel together, ~just being together~. In between those moments, we get to see them both thrive in their careers and juggle important decisions. It’s a real-life kind of romance that still makes you swoon.

Ultimately, I was surprised by how delightful THE WEDDING DATE was for me. It was simply such ~a fun read~, and I’m excited to read more from this author. Check this out when you’re in the mood for a cozy romance that has heart.

Rating ~4.5

This book is a lovely gem. Fun, flirty, romantic, sexy and charming, it is a delight from start to finish. I do not read adult contemporary romances often, but when I do this is what I like to find. It was also great to find a book about an interracial couple with the sort of real-life situations and conflicts that could arise for them.

Alexa Monroe is a smart, strong, fun, honest, independent heroine with all the flaws and insecurities of your everyday woman. She is someone I think we can all relate to in some way.

Drew Nichols is a charming, handsome, intelligent young doctor with a fear of commitment. A genuinely good guy, with a not so great track record of breaking hearts.

The book overall felt like a smart and rather realistic portrayal of an adult relationship. It never forgets to mention that all relationships have ups and downs, it can't all be sweet kisses and delicious donuts. And that to make it over all the bumps in the road, it is important to honest to allow yourself to be open and vulnerable. Because when two people really love each other, they fight for each other, they work through any problems and come out stronger and just as much in love.

Anyways, I adored this book and would definitely recommend it to any of my friends who are fans of adult contemporary romances or maybe even just romantic comedies in general.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with sex in books. I do have a problem with poor communication in books. It makes me really hard to like the characters when they decide to assume things instead of talking. And of course the main characters don't communicate. All they do when they see each other is have sex. This was a shame. In the beginning, I liked the main character. She was smart, knew herself and was willing to push herself. Then instead of sitting the guy down to talk about what kind of relationship they have, she starts second guessing everything and ending things without explanation.

A fun, comtemporary romance with grownups! I've been so immersed in YA that it was refreshing to read the budding romance between Alexa and Drew. I like that she is confident, that he has to deal with his relationship issues, and that it is set in the Bay Area. The passion was off the charts and the race issues well dealt with. Recommended!

What a delight! Had a big smile on my face the whole time! This is really one of the better contemporary romances I've ever read. It's low-key funny with likable characters, realistic drama, and a whole lot of heat.

To be honest, this book was definitely not for me. I tried to get into it, but after 4 chapters, it just didn’t do enough for me. I love plots like this and was really hoping to be swept off my feet, but the writing was cheesy and definitely not my cup of tea. Decided to not finish this one after all.

This is an enjoyable, light read with a few serious moments thrown into the mix. I greatly enjoyed the heroine, Alexa. I would have liked a little more background info on our hero's motivations.

The moment I started reading this book I was hooked. The lead characters are realistic people you want to spend time with. I could not put this book down. I wanted to see how their story would end and finished it in two sittings. Jasmine Guillory has a fan in me - looking forward to her next novel already.

Can a chance meeting in an elevator turn into something more? Drew and Alexa find out in this highly absorbing romance. With a dash of humor, lustful scenes, and characters that feel like they could be your best friends, this novel quickly drags you and has you cheering for the couple.

I loved, loved, loved this book! A simple and somewhat un-original premise gets a fresh new look in Jasmine Guillory's hands. I loved that Alexa was an independent career woman who could hold her own and I loved that the author didn't shy away from the issue of race (but didn't make it a focal point either). I could go on and on, but I am excited to be sharing this new author with my library's romance readers. Can't wait for her next book!

Okay, this was adorbs. I am in awe of the way that Guillory took weighty topics and just...incorporated them into this cute little romance novel. (for example, microaggressions and body issues)

Totally recommend.

Alexa and Drew meet on an elevator where they bond over good cheese and a mutual attraction. Their perfect meet cute turns into a last minute date to Drew's ex-girlfriend's wedding which eventually turns into a full blown long distance love affair.

What I liked about The Wedding Date was the biracial relationship. Alexa is black, Drew is white and that dynamic was very well fleshed out. In face the race dynamic is the #1 thing that attracted me to The Wedding Date in the first place. What I didn't like was that the bulk of their conflict was miscommunication. It's a personal pet peeve when a novel's conflict could be resolved if the two main characters would just talk to one another.

Overall this was a good addition to my quest to read more books written by and about people of color. I look forward to reading more by Jasmine Guillory.

WOW- this was such a good adult contemporary story and my first by this author! Overall it was just an incredibly fun, flirty, and sensational read!

I just didn't click with the writing style, I think. It felt too tell-y instead of show-y. Alexa was a strong character until she wasn't - both the leads felt like they had inconsistent characterization and could flip a switch from being mature to really immature with almost no reason at all. I know many people are excited for this book, and I like the author from her Twitter. So I really wanted to enjoy this, but I just didn't click with it. I hope more people read it and enjoy it - it just wasn't that funny or enjoyable for me personally.

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing for the eARC of this one.

With a rave review from Roxane Gay, I'm sure my thoughts won't add much to the buzz around this book, but here goes. Alexa (chief of staff to the Berkeley mayor - work is really important here) and Drew (pediatric surgeon) meet cute when they get stuck in an elevator together. Drew's on the way to an ex's wedding, and his date bailed! Alexa agrees to go, and the expected romance ensues.

This book is the best, so fun and so satisfying! Alexa Munroe is the accomplished, smart romance heroine of our dreams and Drew Nicholas (Dr. Nick) is the best hunky doctor to be stuck in an elevator with. Their relationship is the expected whirlwind, hitting normal romance beats, and treating the reader to more than the average amount of fun. Alexa's POV also grapples realistically with body image, something I don't always see when I read romance, and which I appreciated here. I can't remember enjoying a romance this much since The Royal We. Jasmine Guillory has written the best romance debut I can imagine, and I can't wait to see more from her.
