My Nana and Me, written by Irene Smalls, is a heartwarming book that shows the relationship between a little African American girl and her nana. The illustrations by Cathy Ann Johnson are simply beautiful! The images are colorful and a delight to look at, and they perfectly coincide with the story being told.

This story is about a little girl spending the day with her nana, and highlights the activities they do together. More importantly, it shows the love between them. It is a simple story that it easy to follow. The length of this book is perfect for reading to a toddler or young child. My three-year-old granddaughter loved it, and we have read it multiple times. I would definitely recommend this heartfelt story!

This book is a charming story about the strong bond of love between a little girl and her beloved Nana. It takes you through a special day they spend together enjoying a tea party, dressing up fancy, playing hide-and-seek, sharing Eskimo kisses sprinkled with words of endearment, plaiting Nana's hair, playing pat-a-cake and much more. They are truly enjoying each other's company so much just lovin' on one another.

After a warm bath the little girl basks in cuddle time curled up on Nana's knee. Nana reads story after story to her which delights them both. Then it's time for bed. The two lovebirds snuggle up under the blankets and drift off to sleep to the rhythm of their heartbeats blending together.

The amazing illustrations are softly coloured and they augment the strong feeling of the love that flow between the two. The illustrator has included at the beginning of the book a place to insert a picture of the reader's Nana which personalizes the book making it a family treasure. This heartwarming story is a celebration of love between a granddaughter and her grandmother and I highly recommend it.

A little girl spends a day with her grandmother, through tea parties, hide and seek, hairstyling, bath time, and bedtime reading. Feels like a lot of this comes from the author’s personal experiences, which makes it all the sweeter.
The artwork is kinda beige and purposefully a little out of focus, but it makes for a bit of a dreamy quality.

The dialogue was definitely age appropriate and descriptive, and the illustrations were fantastic! Coupled together they help take young readers on a delightful walk through a little girl's day with her Nana. Also, the illustrations were very vivid and colorful, and made it easy to follow the words without even being able to read. I would definitely recommend this book for young children under 6.

This is a delightful picture book about the dynamics and love between a little girl and her grandmother.

The girl has a tea party, and plays with her nana, and eventually goes to sleep.

Thank that is it, a sweet, sweet story of love.

As I have said before, representation in books is important, and here is a full-figured woman, the Nana, and a little girl of color, and they are having fun together. The girl is told she is smart, which is important as well.

This is a delightful story celebrating the love between a young granddaughter and her grandmother, and the fun things they do together and the memories they make. I like that it ends with the granddaughter going to bed and being tucked and cuddled by her grandma - it's a great demonstration of loving familial relationship. As a lovely touch, there's a space at the front of the book to put a picture of the child and their own grandmother, adding a personal element to the book. The illustrations are beautiful and the text nice and clear - an all-round brilliant children's book.

My Nana and Me by Irene Smalls. Illustrated by Cathy Ann Johnson. Xist Publishing. A most endearing portrait of a delightful young African American girl’s joyful, loving Nana and the playful things they do with great, cozy and colorful art. And best of all, it has a special place to put a photo of you with your own Nana! Another great children’s book from Xist Publishing. Highly recommend! A lovely story about a day with Nana. They play, braid hair, and take a bath. A day of fun with the ones you love. And for those specifically looking, this is a POC title by a POC author.

This delightful story follows a little girl and her grandmother through a day filled with tea parties, dancing, hide-and-seek, pat-a-cake, bathtime, storytime, and bedtime. Depending on who the reader or listener is, they will take various things from this story; The love between grandparents and their grandchildren, being raised by grandparents being a normal situation, a sleepover with grandma, how wonderful it is to spend time with your grandparents etc.

The story is told in simple language for young children to understand. My only complaint as a teacher is "Nana and Me" on the first page when gramatically it should be "Nana and I". The watercolour illustrations add warmth to the story. The expressions on the faces of both the grandmother and granddaughter are priceless, they are so real. The emotions expressed are easy to see and relate to. What a wonderful story to use as a bedtime story, for grandma and grandchild to share and talk about or to use as a reminder to spend time with your grandparents whenever you can. A great addition to a home, classroom or school library.
