This book takes the reader on an emotional journey after an unfortunate incident leaves Oliver Loving comatose. The story is told from multiple points of view and each character fills in their respective knowledge about what led up to Oliver's situation. The family is torn and broken and yet each, in their own way, holds on to a hope for something different. The situation is resolved on the final page of the book in a very complete and satisfying way.

I thought the story was told in a very interesting way and I liked it more and more as it went on, revealing bits of the backstory while adding character development. It is a dark and sad book yet I wanted to know more of these characters. There were times I wanted to yell out loud for one of them to respond in a different way or to take action so as to change the situation.

I feel this summary does not do the book justice but to talk about this book is to reveal too much that the reader needs to experience. If you like your books moody, atmospheric, dysfunctional and dark in all the best ways then this one might be for you.

I enjoyed this from the very first page. Block really made the emotions vivid and raw. I felt the desperation and hope that the characters expressed. I liked the alternate perspectives, it really helped move the characters along.

The story of Oliver left me speechless. I am an optimist. I believe in happy endings. This story captivated me and broke my heart into pieces.
