Ultimately, books just aren't great teaching tools for sign language. You need to see the signs in motion. So, by itself, this book wouldn't teach your child ASL but when paired with videos and/or the parents demonstrating the signs along with the characters in the book it would be a great addition to the lessons. The illustrations are bright and appealing and I'm sure babies learning to sign would be captivated by them.

I loved the illustrations. Some of the directions were a bit difficult to understand. It would be nice if it came with a DVD. But the concept of a sign for every letter of the alphabet is awesome. I’m going to recommend that our library buy this!

Bright engaging board book to introduce little communicators how to speak with their hands. My own children were eager signers from a very young age and it gave them a way to speak months before they were gaining verbal traction. Teaching children to sign is a pedagogical accent that prevents frustration and allows for engaging early!

When we had our first child, my wife started him on baby sign language. I will never forget the day I came home from work and he signed "Daddy" when I walked in the door! Our experience with signing really paid off when our third child came along and turned out to be non-verbal. She is 15 today and we still use a lot of sign language with her.

Whether your baby is hearing or deaf, verbal or non-verbal, sign language is a wonderful early language tool. Christiane Engel's ABC Baby Signs introduces useful, everyday signs to use with your baby or toddler. The vocabulary is limited, in that it is an ABC book. She teaches 26 common signs, arranged A to Z, plus a few more at the end. It's a cute presentation, though. Each page has a little rhyming verse for the sign, a picture to put the sign in context, and a more traditional drawing of a demonstration of the sign.

If you and your baby master these signs, not only with your communication improve, but you will be spurred to learn even more useful signs. This will be a useful, colorful, and entertaining addition to your child's library.

A lovely well thought out book on baby signs.
It saying you go through the alphabet does not mean that you will learn letter signs though. I found that a little confusing.
Still all the basic needed signs for baby are in this really cute board book. My youngest child ended up in speech therapy and learning signs was a huge help for us. I wish I had this book when she was younger. I read this to her today and it was a really fun reminder of things we had forgotten.
Would make a wonderful baby gift.

I'm going to give this an average rating - the cover looks great, but I wasn't able to download it on any device or desktop.

My baby is still very young, but I wanted to learn other ways to communicate with her while she is too young to find the words.
A great little book with some good tips to get me started.

ABC for Me: ABC Baby Signs is an awesome way to learn some basic sign language for you and your littles. With colorful pictures and your usual alphabet book format, this board book is a fun way to engage in early communication skills. Plus, there are extra signs at the back of the book for family members (both human and furry).

This is a new favorite board book!

Wonderful book for those who are hearing impaired or those looking to introduce their littles to sign language. The illustrations with guides are visually stimulating and helpful. The colors will engage children and keep them focused.

ABC for Me by Christiane Engel is a very adorable take on the usual A for Apple type ABC books.

I have a toddler who has autism and is non-verbal and I found that the signs shown in this book are things we need on a daily basis, if not multiple times a day. So far from being just for fun, with lovely illustrations, it certainly has lots of practical use!
I found the combination of illustrations and words made it quite easy to understand how to sign a specific word/phrase.

Definitely will be recommending this to my friends and the local charity groups that we attend.

Thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a review copy. This is an honest review.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This was amazing! I was really curious about what this book would be, I know, it is about signs for babies and toddlers, but how would they show us these signs, and what words would be featured.

It was super-interesting, and at moments like this I wish I had a little kid myself so I could see if these signs would really help and if my kid would be able to do them. I will definitely remember this book, if I ever have a kid I will try these out. I would love to see my little one tell me what they want through signs.

Some of the signs are really basic (like up, sleep, or eat), but there are some that are a bit more advanced. The words selected for the ABC's are the basic ones (well, except for zoo, but I guess they had to pick a z word and zoo is something kids love). Some examples are eat, water, yes, no. As you can see words that you need often in daily life.

I had lots of fun trying to figure out how to do some of the signs. I am glad I am not anywhere near people, or else people may have looked at me funny. :P

Next to the ABC's the book also lists various other important signs, like father, mother, cat, etc. I loved that they added those, I quite missed those while reading and coming across the letters for those words, and was already thinking how important those are for a kid. Thankfully they added them.

The art is quite a fun art. It is cute, and I adore the colours that the illustrator used. Plus they really took care of adding little details, backgrounds, and more.

I would highly recommend this one to everyone.

Filled with vivid illustrations, this book is very cute and useful.  Not only does it sign every letter of the alphabet, but some commonly used baby words, such as mommy, daddy, and other family roles, as well.  My 3 year old son and my 4 month old daughter also enjoyed this along with me.

Great book for learning sign language with and teaching sign language to your baby and toddler. I enjoyed the format traveling through the alphabet for each new word/sign. The rhyme scheme that accompanies each new word/alphabet letter will draw in young children. The descriptions are good, and the ease of figuring out the signs means you'll be able to put them into practice more quickly.

This is an absolutely brilliant idea for a book - simple head gestures for communicating with babies that are yet to learn to talk, allowing babies to communicate with their hands before they have learned the words to do so. There is one sign per letter of the alphabet, with lovely clear graphics and easy-to-read text, as well as very simple to understand diagrams of how to perform the actions; the arrows help to show exactly what you should be doing with your heads. Some of these gestures are ones that parents would perform anyway, but there are some great ideas for other ones which might not have been thought of. This is a fabulous book which I would definitely recommend!
