This review is coming a bit late but I really enjoyed this book!

It was quick, nice, easy detective read which I loved. As a debut this challenges the detective stereotype in a great way, deviating from the usual macho detective. This is one where once you pick it up you cannot put it down till you are finished!

I would warn people who don't like graphic writing to maybe avoid this book, but someone like me who enjoys a bit of gore this is definitely for you!

Well done James L'Etoile!!

A serial killer harvesting organs. What would you do to save your child in need of a kidney transplant? Would you make a deal with the devil. Its a hard question to answer when the devil doesn't play fair or by the rules!

Very well written and exciting! I almost finished this one in one seating. And I don't do that very often. (Amazon reviewed)

A great premise with interesting characters. Detective Penley has a young son needing an organ transplant and is left a message by a serial killer that they were willing to obtain an organ for the Detective's son putting the detective in a predicament. The storyline proceeds well but weakens with the introduction of the stereo-typed attention seeking FBI agent who only got where she is due to family influences and unhelpful politicians who are willing to stand in the way of the police doing their job.. The book would have been way better without these side distractions which added nothing to the tale. The book ended up okay/good instead of great

Very good book. Very suspenseful and full of surprises. I enjoyed all the information about organ donors and the science behind preserving the organs, and picking who gets transplants. This book is very graphic in spots and made me cringe and squirm. The killer was very visceral and ruthless. I was just glad I was safe at home. I wish the author would of fleshed out Penley's family more. I would of liked to have seen more from their perspective. The same with his partner, Paula. Good read.

This is a serial murderer/detective novel in which black market organ harvesting plays a central role, so it's kind of a grim one. And the lead detective, of course, has a son who is in need of a kidney transplant. I thought it was decent overall, not terrific. It looks like it may be the first of a series, and I would give the series a second shot. 3 stars.
