Another great read by Mary Burton. I have read all of her books since she began writing and have loved all of them

As an FBI agent, Kate's past has helped her solve the most disturbing of cases, mainly with serial killers. Her father, who was also in law enforcement was gunned down by Kate's psychotic ex-boyfriend when she was in high school. She was shot also, but survived, and the killer put in jail. But she lives with the guilt everyday, following her into adulthood. What makes it worse is her father's killer was released from jail, mainly because of his rich father's influence, but has been off the grid for years (or has he)? Kate has been called in to work on a case dealing with a woman being shot on the highway, and the killer recording the killing. She will partner up with detective, Theo, a divorced father of a teenage girl, who has also experienced lost. His baby son died in the crib. He's dedicated to the job like Kate is.

The victim was a much respected woman married to an equally respected man in the community. They ran a car dealership together, but after her death, the secrets come out. She was dying of cancer, and her husband, who may or may not be the killer was bleeding money, and may have been unfaithful, much like he was with his first wife, who he left to be with the victim, a younger woman with a sick mother. But her murder isn't as cut and dry as it seems. The killer may be a copy cat of another serial killer, who has been caught, as well as one sill on the lost who puts women in wooden boxes and keeps them as dolls until he tires of them. Kate has been the lead on both cases, and the killer of this new murder wants her involved. The question is why?

The Last Move has so many excellent twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. I'm in awe of Mary's writing and plots she uses to give the reader a thrilling journey that isn't just about the crime, but the people involved responsible for solving it. There is an undercurrent of romance here, but it's more in the background because of the intensity of the crime and the main characters who put themselves on the line to save lives and speak for the dead. Kate and Theo make a great team, and the outcome of their professional relationship that morphs into a personal one is very satisfying.

This is one thriller that will have you hooked until the last page. A must read!

I really liked Theo Mazur. He left a prestigious job to come back to Texas to be nearer his daughter, stepping down to Detective. Kate has been sent to investigate a case which is a copycat of a murder that she already solved, but more murders happen putting Kate and Theo in danger....and together. Another really good book by Mary Burton with her trademark twist and turns. As always thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was given the chance to receive an advanced copy, started reading right away and was sucked right in.. I Love books that when I start reading them I feel like I'm right there, jumping, gasping, crying and giggling. Mary's Books Never Disappoint.. Can't Wait To Read Her Next Book...

This book was gripping. I very much enjoy reading any Mary Burton novel, she has the ability to write really authentic bad guys and “Her Last Word” was no exception. She kept the reader guessing for most of the book. I liked the slow “heat up” between Kaitlin and Adler, both were wounded souls and they were understandably wary of each other. I would have liked more closure regarding the “bad guy(s)” disposition(s) and it was a little distracting the way the chapters jumped between narrative and first person but all in all this was a great read. I can see the possibilities for future novels featuring any number of the secondary characters….please, please give Logan and Quinn their own novels.

Great book! The characters are well developed and it will keep you hooked until the very end. I have read all her books and this is another book that does not disappoint. The characters are determined to catch the killer and nothing will stop them from catching the killer. I didn’t guess the killer until the author revealed who it was.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book. I truly loved it. I have never been disappointed with a Mary Burton novel and this is no exception. Great mystery with plenty of twists, suspenseful enough to keep turning the pages quickly, with a touch of romance and a HEA. I really liked Kate and Mazur and could relate to them right away and the villains were appropriately despicable. Highly recommended along with all Mary's other books. Great read.

Another great page turner from Mary Burton! I love her books so much! Though I'm beginning to think perhaps I should be a bit concerned on how Mary comes up with such sinister serial killers. I mean, victims in boxes.... really?! Who thinks like that?!!! :)

I had to spread this book out over more days than normal (busy week) but was always able to delve straight back in with no confusion (or forgetfulness) on characters or events taking place (unusual for me). Can't wait for whichever book she comes out with next

I really liked this stand alone book by Mary Burton. I liked Kate and Theo alot. I hope that we might hear more from them. Or maybe Mitchell's story. I thought this was a good mystery with some really scary criminals! I liked that Theo seemed to understand Kate and was always trying to feed her. I liked Theo's desire to be near his daughter Alyssa, and she was a trip! This book had a few surprises and I found it really interesting. Like I said, I hope we hear more from Kate and Theo.

Note: I am featuring some of the review books I've had for a while, but run out of time to review. That's not to say I'm not going to read them; it's just that I've fallen behind, and think the authors deserve an appearance on my blog!

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this book.
I haven't read any of Mary's books in a while and I was pleasantly surprised. The book was well written, gripped me from the beginning and I just loved the ending! Well done. Recommended.

This just didn't work for me. I didn't like either of the main characters all that much and the romance was flat.

There's a murder in San Antonio, Texas that is just like passed murders but there is only one problem... Dr. Kate Hayden a profiler for the FBI has helped put Charles Richardson behind bars for those crimes. When the body of Gloria Sanchez is found on I-35 with a cellphone with a text directed to Kate.
Kate is working in Utah trying to catch another murderer that likes to keep girls in boxes, where he takes them out to play with until he gets tired of them. His latest is young Sara Fletcher. Kate makes a promise to her to catch the man responsible.
Kate is then sent back to Texas to work the Samaritan copycat murder, when there is another murder that is like another one of Kate's cases. She is partnered up with Detective Theo Mazur. New to San Antonio after following his ex-wife from Chicago so that he could be close to his daughter.
They come to the conclusion that William Bauldry, a crazy boyfriend from high school, who shot her and her father years ago, killing her father is behind these murders.
Raymond Drexler Jr who she was trying to catch in Utah followed her to Texas, is after revenge.
This book was OUTSTANDING and I did not want to put it down. I received an advanced copy of this book for a honest review. I have never been disappointed in any book written by Mary Burton. She writes with such suspense that her books are incredibly hard to put down.

RATING: 4 STARS
(I received an ARC from the NETGALLEY)
(Review Not on Blog)

"Catching monsters helps FBI agent Kate Hayden keep her nightmares at bay. Now an urgent call brings her back to San Antonio, the scene of her violent past. A brutal new murder shows hallmarks of a serial killer nicknamed the Samaritan. Tricky part is, Kate already caught him.

Either Kate made a deadly error, or she’s got a copycat on her hands. Paired with homicide detective Theo Mazur, she quickly realizes this murder is more twisted than it first appeared. Then a second body is found, the mode of death identical to a different case that Kate thought she’d put behind her.

Now Kate and Detective Mazur aren’t just working a homicide; the investigative pair is facing a formidable enemy who knows Kate intimately. While Mazur is personally trying to protect Kate, the closer they are drawn to the killer, the clearer it becomes that in this terrifying game, there is only one rule: don’t believe everything you see…" (From Amazon)

Another solid romantic suspense by Mary Burton. I loved the character and their chemistry, as well as the plot. I am writing off the Senseless series as a one off on not being that great. I have just loaded more of her books onto my Kindle so stay tuned!

I always enjoy Mary Burton's books, but this one is my favorite to date. It was a great romantic suspense, with a nice balance of each and plenty of action. I liked the fast moving plot, and very quickly became caught up in the storyline. What I liked best about the book were the characters of Kate Hayden and Theo Mazur. They were both great, and I loved how they worked together! Kate is a strong woman with lots of baggage, and I loved how protective Theo was of her.

Kate is called to San Antonio to work a murder case that is a copy cat of a murder from her past. Either that, or she made a grave error. Soon, another murder occurs that is also just like one from her past. Kate and Theo have to puzzle out what is happening before the killer continues his horrific game.

Great book! It kept me riveted, and rooting for the main characters. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Mary Burton never disappoints and she has brought us another crime thriller packed with everything you could hope for. Serial killers and a tough as nails FBI agent who has lived through her own nightmare losing her father and nearly dying, herself. Kate knows how to get results so when she is called in by Mazur of the San Antonio Police Department they work extremely well together with also feeling a connection between them. The only thing is Kate does not let anyone close to her in fear of them being harmed. So hold on and be ready for a great ride following this latest case.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for a freely given and honest review.
