Anne for the Next Generation! Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books from childhood, but it’s hard to convince kids these days to pick it up. This graphic novel is the perfect way to entice my students to get into the story! It is true to the story and quite readable, a great adaptation. As for the illustrations, the scenery/backgrounds are lovely, although the people are not quite what I would have hoped.

This graphic novel adaptation is really too short to give a full picture of Anne's story, but I loved the artwork and the beautiful colors of the book. I think that it's the perfect way to revisit the story if you've already read the original book, but I definitely would NOT recommend it to those who are unfamiliar with Anne. There's too much of the plot left out or implied, although it's easily understood if you already know the background of the story.

The illustrations are whimsical and colorful, and the pacing of the panels gives a satisfying dreamy feeling to the book. There is a lot of focus on the countryside and the beauties of Avonlea, the trees and lakes and flowers, and then we see Anne's reaction of wonder and delight to the loveliness of nature.

Several times I was not exactly impressed with the writing. It's almost like it was trying too hard to have an "old-timey" style, but not doing it very well. For instance, the narrator wrote about Anne being in the "deeps of despair," instead of the "depths," and it just sounded weird. Is "deeps" even a real word? Isn't the plural of "deep" supposed to be "depths"? There were a couple of things like that in the writing that got on my nerves.

A lovely way to revisit a favorite classic, but not the best I've ever seen. Still enjoyable though.

'Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel' is an adaptation of the novel by L.M. Montgomery adapted by Mariah Marsden with illustrations by Brenna Thummler. It's a very fine retelling of this story.

When brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert struggle to keep their farm running, they decide to send for an orphan to help out. They hope for a boy, but what they get is Anne. She brings joy and a little chaos into their lives with her ever running imagination and exuberance. Over time, she wins them over and Green Gables becomes Anne's home. Anne's mishaps are hilarious and her remorse over them is sweet.

I've read the book and seen a movie or two. I also gave this the true test and let my great niece read it. She loved it. I asked her what I should rate it, and she gave it four stars. I can't argue with that. This is a fine adaptation.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This was a great adaptation of L. M. Montgomery classic novel Anne of Green Gables. I've read the original earlier this year, and it was great to revisit this world, so, then, I can finally continue with this series.

Most of the details are pretty good, however there are a few things that slipped. For example: I don't know WHY they dressed her in pink (like when she's the Lily Maid). Anne would NEVER wear pink (because, as she puts it, it wouldn't look right with her hair.)

I love how in one of the scenes where Matthew notices that all the other girls have puffed sleeves (except Anne), we get little "puff" "puff" "puff" just to show the difference. This is later mirrored when Anne is wearing her own dress with puffed sleeves. It's like the puffs are talking to her and we can see how happy she is!

The illustrations in this graphic novel capture the essence and wonder of the original story. That's really important to me when it comes to one of my favourite books. It's dedicated to L.M. Montgomery, and I'm pretty sure she would be proud that this is one more way for people to get to know Anne.

Overall, it's a beautiful addition to your Anne collection.

A stunning array of beautiful images tell this shortened classic story. Nothing is left out though as we route for orphan Anne as she is mistakingly placed as a farm hand. Her spirit comes through well in the art and the tale remains as touching as always.
A joy to read.
My thanks go to the author, publisher and Netgalley in providing me with a copy of this in return for a honest review.

The artwork is great. As you go through each page it keeps pulling you in until at the end you are a little sad to say goodbye to Anne. The events happened faster than in the novel but it didn't make it less enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this as a children's book whenever I have the chance

I have been meaning to read Anne of Green Gables for years upon years. About a month ago I picked up the audiobook and decided to listen/read it. I really enjoyed the story. It was so beautiful in it's simplicity. When I saw there was a graphic novel on netgalley, I immediately had to download it and read it.

The artwork in this book is spectacular. It's beautifully done and just transports you to the lake of shining waters and makes you feel almost as if you're there with Anne enjoying the day. I loved how simplistic the story was and how placing into a graphic novel just seemed to work. The artwork is simplistic yet complex in its variety of colors and beauty.

With reading the book just a few weeks ago, I did notice a bit of the story missing or redone which is completely understandable. You can't fit everything in all the time. I mention this solely for those kids who might decide to read this instead of the book for school.

All in all, this graphic novel expertly shows you the simplicity of the story and enhances it with the beautiful artwork. If you love Anne of Green Gables, I highly recommend taking a look at this. It's spectacular!

I love Anne of Green Gables.
I used to watch the animated version when I was a little kid, and earlier this year I watch the series on Netflix. hands down it were one of the best Netflix series ever.

and now recently I stumbled upon this in NetGalley. I couldn't pass it out.
The drawings are full of color and art itself is very simple, nothing too much. I felt most of the characters were well represented. although I wished to see more of Mathew and Maryla, I don't know maybe just because I love them soo much. It's quite rare to see grown-up siblings that have a solid-unique relationship in books.

As of Anne, of course, the lovely Anne, I kind of see her as someone I could be friends with back in school but also the type of friend you all ways have a few fights with.

There is really not much I could say about this book other than it's a great, fun, and quick read, and it makes a great gift for classic lovers, little girls, and anyone whos looking for a new graphic novel.

The illustrations alone make this worthy of any bookshelf. The story came together so wonderfully in this format. One graphic novel I know my own child will delight in every single time she opens it.

A cute graphic novel that tells the story of Anne of Green Gables; I find the illustrations really cute and they accompany the story well.

I don't have much to say about the story as it follows quite closely the events of the first novel of Anne of Green Gables, which I read and loved. For this reason I can say that, compared to the novel, I felt that the graphic novel went too fast and I couldn't enjoy the events as much. However, I also think that this book may be perfect to ready the story aloud to children, who can enjoy the pictures while listening to the reader.

This is an absolutely amazing story & a beautiful edition. I love Anne, Marilla & Matthew and I adore the relationship they have. Anne really is like I imagine myself to have been when I was little. Full of life and imagination, very talkative, clumsy, and a lover of learning. The graphic novel made the story really fast and it kept my attention (which is a real victory since you will have defeated my ADHD).
I will definitely be picking up the regular books & hopefully I will enjoy them the same or more :)

Never read any book this quickly. And laughed, loved and cried all the same.
It is so so good.
As they say , there is always a reason why we love children classics so much.

The illustration, the dialogues are so fine and accurate.

Beautiful piece of art.

I thought this was utterly charming. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, and really bring the characters and the landscape to life. I loved the dynamic between Matthew, Marilla and Anne, and I especially loved the scenes of Anne and Diana's blooming friendship.
From the first few pages this graphic novel really conjured up the essence of the original book. It does seem to really pick up the pace in the second half though, with whole years whipping by. I wish it could've been twice as long. I was sorry to reach the end.

5/5 STARS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I want to start off by thanking Andrews McMeel Publishing and Mariah Marsden on NetGalley for supplying me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

SPOILERS AHEAD: I'm going to be perfectly honest with you, going into this, I had absolutely no idea what this was other than a graphic novel based on a beloved children's classic. But that didn't stop me from being drawn completely in from the moment I flipped through those first few pages. The art alone was so incredibly beautiful, not to mention the story that helped create one of my now favorite classics of all time. I can't even remember the last time I digested a book so quickly.

Each character is loveable in their own unique way. I can recall at least two occasions where I quickly changed my mind on disliking two characters minutes after their introduction. And don't even get me started on the relationships formed between Anne and those that surrounded her. Matthew and Marilla, Diana, and Mrs. Lynde were amongst my favorites. And Gilbert. I couldn't help but ship the pair from the moment he grabbed her braids! Definitely not his shining moment, but he's a true gem.

I cannot express enough how much I recommend reading this book, whether it's the original format that I wish to cross off next, or this beauty that I am reviewing before you. Thank goodness for Netflix and all its glory because I now need another Anne fix and with the show, hopefully it will do it justice. Until next time, happy reading!

Love this adaption of Anne of Green Gables. It is a wonderful way to enjoy a favorite in a different way. The graphics are beautiful and very well done. I recommend this book if you enjoy Anne's stories as well as if you enjoy a variety of graphic novels -- this is a winner.

I could not see the graphic novel. My Adobe Digital Editions "fulfilled" the file, but it only showed up on 9/10 pages as a black-and-white glitchy mess. My ADE has no trouble fulfilling other books. This makes me sad -- I love "Anne of Green Gables" and this looks like a beautiful adaptation.

I read Anne of Green Gables when I was in middle school and it became one of my favorites. Being a fellow redhead I related to Anne's feeling about her red hair. I also really loved her imagination and there is so much about family and friendship. Anne of Green Gables is just so magical. I was thrilled when I found out there was a graphic novel of green gables. I couldn't wait to dive back into one of my favorite books! I loved how beautiful the art was! It really brought Anne and her story to life! I really enjoyed this beautiful graphic novel!
