What. An amazing. Debut.

Kate Clayborn has written a layered, sharply observed, and compelling first book. I had to keep reminding myself that this was her first the entire time I read it. The developing relationship between Ben and Kit (the two main characters) was lovely-difficult at times, effortlessly fun at others, bumping into growth in a sometimes painful, sometimes thrilling way. In other words, like real life. The side characters were all rich with detail and personality. The central question of "do I root for these two to be together?" answered with a resounding, "YES."

Clayborn also has a gift for the complicated and sometimes messy ways people know what the sources of their problems are--and then really don't. Kit's relationship with her brother is heart-achingly real in how she doesn't understand that their upbringing has left them needing very different things and her insistence on trying to give him what *she* wants really works.

I was given an advance reader's copy in exchange for an unbiased review.

A great book. Its a question that everyone ponders what happens if I win the lottery? The book makes you think about this and want to finish to see what happens. I enjoyed it a lot.

I simply loved this book!

The story is about Kit and Ben. Ben is a corporate recruiter and - while he is home helping his recovering dad - he tries to recruit Kit for his company. But Kit is not interested, as she has finally bought her dream house, has a job she feels happy with and would never leave her best friends. The best friends she just won the lottery with 6 months ago. Ben and Kit are attracted to each other and start a relationship.

I liked both Ben and Kit and the secondary characters. They all felt so real and I thought the salvage yard was an interesting premise. Kit had a rough childhood which accounted for her choices but Ben had his issues as well. I loved the way it all played out so beautifully.

The mentioned lottery does not play a very big role, it is merely the catalyst for the stories of the 3 friends. Zoe and Greer are next and I can't wait for their stories. I also liked Kit's brother Alex and Ben's best friend Jasper so maybe...

Beginner's Luck is the first sweet romance in this series written by author Kate Clayborn. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Lyrical Shine for the advance copy.
