The second book in the Texas Heroes series a well written Western story that kept me turning pages. This is Glory Day who is losing her vision, and Former Texas Ranger Luke McClain do not meet in the best of circumstances she shoots him by mistake. I found myself smiling as I read. This is a new Author to me and I want to read more by her. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is second book from this series. I like it , but I feel that it was all over the place and a bit rush at the end. Thanks to Netgalley, for this free advance copy. My opinion is my own

This was one of my first (if not my very first) Historical Western Romance. I am hungry for more of the genre! I love that the characters have flaws and struggles, which makes them more real. I love the way Glory and Luke's relationship develops, though the ending felt a bit rushed. A great slow burn romance that left me wanting more.

If ever there was a stubborn character Glory Ann Day would have to be the most perfect example. In parts cantankerous and others loving especially to her family. Glory was in short a very hard working young woman with the weight of the world on her shoulders and little time to mind her words.

Definitely the case in all her interactions with Luke McClain, a stranger in town who seems determined to interfere, Glory’s words not mine – in the Day family’s life.

The Day family has fallen into hard times made all the worse by the jailing of their father. Mother Day is seems has fallen into some mental abyss with lucid moments a rarity. The three sisters Glory, Hope and Patience are just about managing although it seems that is in itself as sort of miracle.

Luke is just what this family truly needs but Glory worries about at what cost. Clearly Luke is carry around guilt and worry of his own. Glory is concerned that he might be involved in some of the problems occurring in her small town. Robberies, hangings seem to have heightened since Luke arrived. Yet all that seems contrary to the man.

The Day family faces each new dilemma with love and strength and hope. THE COWBOY WHO CAME CALLING is a story that delves deeply into the value of those virtues. Glory needs to learn some of these lessons and perhaps Luke is just the guy to teach her. At the same time life could take a decidedly better turn for both Glory and Luke. Dare we dream.

THE COWBOY WHO CAME CALLING is the second book in the Texas Heroes series written by Linda Broday. The Texas Heroes is a trilogy of books that are being reissued. Linda Broday has quickly become one of my favorite authors in this genre. Her books resonate with honesty and love. I haven’t met a Linda Broday book yet that I just didn’t love from the first page to the last. So if you missed this series the first time around this is your chance to read some of Linda Broday’s best.

After enjoying Knight on the Texas Plains where I first encountered the McClain brothers. I was eager to come back for Luke McClain’s story and, whew boy, was it something.
Review

The Cowboy Who Came Calling is the second book in the Texas Heroes series. I enjoyed this one as a follow-up on book one, but it could easily be read standalone.

The book takes place at least several months and maybe over a year after Knight On the Texas Plains. It jumps in at a new location and with the heroine, Glory Day’s side of things. Glory, her mother, and her sisters are nearly destitute after her father gets put into prison for something he didn’t do and the area is experiencing a drought. The town treats her and her family like pariahs, she’s losing her eyesight, and she’s nearly lost hope. All she has left is her pride. Enter stage right: hero, Luke McClain. He has his own troubles, but he wants to help out Glory and her family even when she snarls and fights him all the way while denying her feelings for him.

I find this book a tough one for me to sum up because I really wanted to love it since I loved the first one and many others by the author, but I didn’t. I only liked it.

My biggest issue was my mixed feelings about the heroine. I can respect her somewhat, but, in the end, I struggled to like her. I get that she has a tough row to hoe and she has walls up- titanium steel ones, but she was downright ugly toward Luke much of the time- okay, make that nearly all the time. I honestly don’t recall but a few fleeting moments when she wasn’t snarling and angry at him and thinking the worst- not that Luke communicated his plans to her. I didn’t feel their romance as a result. And, here’s what really sealed it for me. Even when she realized she had some big regrets over her behavior- she never apologized to Luke. He apologizes when he wronged her, but she didn’t reciprocate. Luke was stalwart and true. He kept coming back and doing all he could to support that family and show Glory how much he cared.

But, Glory wasn’t the only part I was mixed about. I felt this book was all over the place at times. It popped in and out with the suspense thread and likewise with the romance. Luke was there and then gone again, pops up later and then is gone again. It made the story lack flow to me.

So, I liked it and loved being back in the Texas Heroes world to get Luke’s story, but let’s just say this won’t be my favorite book. That said, I can easily recommend the series to others who enjoy Western Historical Romances and I will definitely be watching out for more releases in the series.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a wonderful story. I cried in several spots. The story just was realistic and haunting. I truly felt for Glory. She was truly inspirational. The story telling was such that you could picture the scenes like it was a movie. The characters were fantastic. I have to go back and read the first story of this series. I was disappointed to see the end of the story as I was so engrossed in it that I didn't want it to end. I feel like I was leaving friends behind! I so highly recommend this story to anyone.

I really enjoyed Glory and Luke's story! Glory had to take the responsibility of her family long before she ever would have in normal circumstances. She definitely doesn't like to have to rely on others to help her. This puts her at odds with Luke, since he sees she needs help and does what he can.

The bantering between Glory and Luke had me laughing out loud and I really enjoyed watch these two fall in love. I'm excited for the next book in the series as I fell in love with the heroine while reading the first book in the series.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling is book two of Linda Broday's Texas Heroes series. Technically you can read this as a stand alone but I personally felt like I was missing something important about Luke. I didn't really care for the fact that he was in love with his brother's wife at the beginning of the book, it just seemed unnecessary especially how adamit he was about, pardon my bastardization of the bard here but the Cowboy doth proclaim to loudly even if it was only to himself, it almost seemed like he was trying to keep himself convinced he loved her and that there could be no one else but her even if he couldn't have her, even when he's fighting his attraction to Glory he's trying to convince himself that he can't lone Glory; cue the eye roll. Even with all that he is a pretty great guy a former Texas Ranger who was falsely accused and now is trying to right that wrong and get his job back. Glory Day is the head of the household with her father wrongly imprisoned and he's slowly dying, her mother is lucid on her good days, her extremely annoying little sister makes things harder than they need to be and the middle child Hope is the peacemaker and because of her father almost the whole town has shunned them. The Day family needs money or the bank is going to the farm away and to top it all off Glory is slowly going blind.

Glory thinks their luck might have changed when she sees a wanted sign in the general store. She knows she can track him all she has to do is capture him and the reward is all hers. Unfortunately she's not the only one trying to find him. Luke needs this thief alive so he can question him about who was behind his frame up, Glory and Luke find him at about the same time and when they are arguing the thief gets away but not before he grabs for Glory's gun and it goes off shooting Luke in the leg. Glory feels guilty for shooting Luke in the lag and brings him home to patch him up. It's Luke's turn to feel guilty when he finds why Glory had been out there looking for the bounty. The more time Luke spends with Glory the more he likes her and before he knows it despite trying to convince himself he can't love her, he does. He was the first to figure out Glory was going blind and he decides to put her needs before his own and help her and her family out. Luke soon realizes that her father and himself have more in common than he thought and that path leads straight to where he needed to go to clear his name. Glory keeps fighting Luke about everything but his perseverance and kindness win her over and as much as she doesn't want to love him, for fear she will lose him too, she still falls hard.

Overall, aside from some really annoying qualities the characters have it was an enjoyable story. The story was very intriguing and I wanted to find out what would happen next, but the ending just kind of happened and was a little anticlimactic and left some unanswered questions.

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.
This is the first book by Linda Broday that I have read and I enjoyed it a lot. This story is wellwritten and has a depth of characters that keeps you reading. It has tragedy, suspense and romance with a HEA ending. It is also well edited, which I really appreciate. This book tackles health issues common to its setting of 1800s Texas as well as the complications they caused. It also addresses human nature, good and evil. While in real life evil sometimes wins, it is always a great read when justice is served. Thank you for a great read, Linda Broday! (less)

I'm a big fan of Linda Broady, and this book is exactly what I was expecting. A sweet, innocent love story about Glory and Luke. Glory's family is experiencing hard times. She needs a way to make money fast. When she figures out a way to do it, Luke ends up messing with her well thought out plans. He gets hurt and Glory ends up taking him home to heal. Luke begins to admire the country girl. Can she trust him, or is he just another disappointment in her life? You'll have to read the book to find out! Just a quick note that this is an old book that is being released again.

Wow this book was amazing!I felt every emotion while I was reading this book! This book, had many things that I enjoyed! It has mystery , romance and it was emotional!Glory is one of three sisters and the daughter of a woman that seems to have lost her mind and her will to live after her husband was sent to prison. Glory has taken to wearing britches to take on the role as man of the family. I loved the story line it was refreshing and interesting! Luke McClain is a man fighting his own demons. A stranger passing through Santa Ana in his search for an outlaw he hopes can help clear his name. Luke is accidentally wounded when he and Glory are vying to capture the man and from then on things get both complicated and simplified at the same time.
I like Luke a lot!Overall, it was a great story that I could read again and again!

I really liked this book. I first read Linda Broday last year when I decided to pick up the first book in this series, Knight on the Texas Plains, which I ended up loving. I knew as soon as I saw this book that I would have to read it and I am glad that I did. I really had a wonderful time getting to know Glory, Luke, and all the other characters in this story and wanted to see them get their happy ending.

I loved the first meeting between Glory and Luke. Their paths do quickly cross in town but their first real meeting goes horribly wrong when Glory accidentally shoots Luke. She takes him home to tend to his wounds and let him recover. Luke gets to know the Day family pretty quickly since Glory's youngest sister, Patience, like to share whatever comes to her mind. Luke sees how much responsibility is on Glory's shoulders and seems to understand how troubled she is.

I liked the characters in this story quite a bit. Luke was great. He is a really good man that wants to help. He will do the right thing and somehow seems to see things that others may miss. Glory was a strong character. She is tough and does what needs to be done to take care of her family. She has a lot of pride and wants to take care of things herself. It did drive me a bit nuts when she made a big deal of Luke's offer to help because she really needed the help but I understood why she behaved as she did. Glory's sisters, Hope and Patience, were wonderful. Hope was a a hard working girl who was a great support to her sisters and family. Patience was a wonderful child who added more than a few smiles to the story.

I liked Luke and Glory together. I thought that their personalities really seemed to work well together. Luke didn't see Glory's responsibilities as a negative but was happy to take them on himself. Glory didn't always seem to know how to handle Luke and had a lot of doubts but she did care for him. I would have liked to see a bit more of Luke and Glory together. There seemed to be someone around to interrupt them during most of the scenes where they had a moment alone.

I would recommend this book to others. I had a great time reading this wonderful romance filled with fantastic characters. This is the second book in the Texas Heroes series but could easily be read as a stand alone since it tells its own story. I look forward to reading more from Linda Broday very soon.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

Intriguing western historical romance and drama! Terrifically detailed account of the difficulties people encountered trying to eke out a living in the midst of a harsh land. We find Glory Day trying to handle all the responsibilities of the ranch as well as care for her mother and two sisters while their father sits in prison. Then we meet Luke McClain, a former Texas Ranger, who is hell-bent on looking after Glory. Being her stubborn, obstinate self, she refuses Luke over and over again, all the while Glory keeps losing more and more of her sight. His grit and determination finally convinces Glory that his love is sincere.

My Thoughts

For Glory Day, her mother and her siblings life has been bleak since the day her father Jack was taken away. As the eldest child, left with a parent who withdrew from her remaining family, Glory steps in to take over with mixed results until her rapidly dwindling sight becomes a bigger liability than the mean-spirited attitude of the townspeople of Santa Ana Texas.

Luke McClain is a man fighting his own demons. A stranger passing through Santa Ana in his search for an outlaw he hopes can help clear his name. Luke is accidentally wounded when he and Glory are vying to capture the man and from then on things get both complicated and simplified at the same time.

Having no real help the Day family soon teeters on the brink of total poverty as well as homelessness at some point in the near future. Although it seems hopeless for the little family Glory does not have the words quit or give up in her vocabulary.

As a former Texas Ranger Luke McClain has his own troubles and in pursuit of turning his luck around makes his way to the small Texas town where Glory's family lives. His stop in town to replenish supplies so he can continue his attempt at capturing a wanted outlaw is where he and Glory first cross paths. Neither is taken with the other and this opinion is reinforced when Luke is accidentally wounded by none other than Glory herself when they both try to bring in the said outlaw.

Glory for the much needed bounty money and Luke for reasons known only to himself.

This is the point where things get interesting for the at odds pair. What started out as total dislike soon becomes something quite different once they are thrown together daily as Glory nurses her unintended victim back to health.

A truly interesting romance set in the Old West of the 1880's that Western Romance fans will find quite enjoyable reading, even when irritated by the youngest Day daughters constant attempt to whine her way out of chores.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling by Linda Broday is the 2nd book in her Texas Heroes series. I loved the first book in this series, and I am happy to say this was as equally as good. I do not read much western romances, but I have come to love Linda Broday’s writing and I will continue to read her books.

Glory Day is our heroine, and she was a wonderful one at that. Glory is tough, not like the fancy woman living in her town. Glory has to take care of her family, as they are in dire straits financially with her father in jail for something he did not commit. Glory wears britches, and goes out hunting daily for food; one day she finds an outlaw, who has a big bounty on his head, and just when she plans to bring him in, another cowboy arrives almost at the same time and they argue who gets to take the man in. When they are not looking the outlaw pulls the rifle away from Glory and it ricochets and shoots the cowboy in the leg, not to mention the outlaw gets away.

Luke McClain, our hero, whom we met in the first book, is the cowboy, who will come to stay with Glory and her family, while she helps to heal the wound. Luke is a former Texas Ranger, who lost his job being framed by someone, who he is searching for to clear his name.

Glory’s family was amazing. Her youngest sister, Patience was so sweet and cute, and a nonstop talker. Hope, was the middle sister, who was more helpful to Glory, and also the cook in the family. Their mother, who misses her husband, is somewhat of an invalid, but later we learn she was addicted to some medicine. Luke recuperates in this house, and in a short time he learns to care about them all. He also finds himself falling hard for Glory, despite her tough cowgirl look. Glory herself is also finding herself attracted to the handsome Luke, but she is a bit stubborn, unable to accept that he really does care about her

Luke will overhear the problems they have financially and the threat of foreclosure on their house. He wants to help them, but Glory is determined to find a way to fix things herself, not what she thinks is charity. When he leaves to find the outlaw, Glory will catch up with him, as she needs the money. The story also adds another element, with Glory slowly losing her eye sight.

Luke will leave again, after paying off their foreclosure, and saying goodbye to Glory. He is going on a mission undercover (he doesn’t tell her) and feels he could be killed. Will Luke survive and come back to Glory?
I really loved this heartwarming story, as Glory and Luke were such a great couple. The family was also fun to be with, and it was great to see Duel and Jessie (previous book heroes) again closer to the end to help Luke. Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful couple, sweet romance, great secondary characters, action and so very well written.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling is my first book from Linda Broday and probably my first historical western romance novel. I'll admit I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story but it didn't take long until I was intrigued enough to keep going.

Glory is awesome! She's a woman who fights to keep her family clothed, fed, and is basically mom and dad to her younger siblings. She's got fight and a great attitude. Luke, although a suspicious character initially, turns out to be a man with a heart of gold. And once he gives his heart to Glory, he does everything he can to help her and her family. Watching them fall in love and fight their feelings was just beautiful.

I loved both of Glory's sisters, hated several of the jerk townspeople, and just really enjoyed the book. It did move a little slowly in parts but I'm glad to have given this author a chance and will into more of her books!

The Cowboy Who Came Calling by Linda Broday, is the third book in the Texas Heroes series. Although it is a series it can also be read as a stand-alone book. The story was entertaining and was both a romance and focused on family. The main characters were well-defined and their challenges and interactions were often humorous. The storyline took a few twists and turns with conflicts. The pace was a bit slow in parts, but overall I enjoyed it.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling by Linda Broday is the third book in the Texas Heroes series. It is currently scheduled for release on February 6 2018. I have not read the other books in the series, and while I suspect those that have will have more information on the characters than newcomers to the series, it was a fine read even as a stand alone.

Glory Day may be losing her vision, but that doesn't mean she'll ever stop fighting. Determined to provide for her struggling family, she confronts an outlaw with a price on his head. But when a mysterious cowboy gets between her and her target, Glory accidentally shoots him instead. Flustered, she has no option but to take the handsome stranger home to treat his wounds. Former Texas Ranger Luke McClain didn't plan to fall in love, but there's no denying the strength of Glory's will or the sweetness of her heart. But Glory's been burned before, and Luke will have to reach into the depths of his own battered soul to convince her to take a chance.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling is a fast and entertaining read. I liked the characters, particularly Glory's resilience and pride. She is handling things she should not have to, but deals with everything as best she can. Luke is struggling with the loss of his purpose and standing as a Texas Ranger, and looking to redeem himself by finding the person that framed him. Their interactions are highly entertaining, I really enjoyed the banter. I found Glory to be a little more developed than Luke, but I think fans of the series will have more information and a better understanding of him. That being said, I loved the secondary characters and the way the various conflicts interconnected and effected each other. I liked some of the secondary characters, or their part in the story. I think the danger and family portions of the story were very well done, and I enjoyed the way Glory kept her independence despite the vision issues. I also liked Luke's honor and determination- but I was frustrated with the characters a bit because the majority of the issues the romance faced were based on pride and lack of communication rather than actual issues. Not unusual, because if our main players ever sat down and had a real conversation- without holding back- most romance storylines would be over fairly quick. I did enjoy the read, and got caught up in the story as I read. I just might go back and read the previous books in the series, mainly because I am interested in the characters introduced here and I am curious about them.

The Cowboy Who Came Calling is a solid historical romance with several interesting conflicts and smaller story lines. Pride and honor play a major role in the story, however it is the well defined characters and banter really engage the reader and keep them turning the pages.
