Lots of intrigue and adventure in this Pirate story. it was full of action but had a few slow place that dragged a little. If you are looking for steaminess this might not be the book for you. This one has religious overtones, they quote scripture and pray. It was fine with me and it fit the heroine's personality. Over all it was an enjoyable read.

This is a daring, fast-paced adventure with well-developed characters and a tight plot line. It sucked me in from the first word and held me captive through the last! While this is part of a series (two books I believe) you can read them in any order – even the author says so. If you are looking for steam, it isn’t in this book – but the story is wonderful, the characters relatable and the situations are exciting. There is never a dull or boring moment in this book!

Emma St. James is a beautiful, smart, and level-headed young woman and she’s in a boatload of trouble. She was the apple of her father’s eye and when he died he left the entire estate to her – except for a settlement for her step-mother. When she is just a couple of weeks away from obtaining her majority and thus her inheritance, her step-mother, and step-brother try to force her into marrying the step-brother – otherwise, they will have her declared insane and sent to Bedlam. She’s never been afraid of a challenge and decides to betroth herself to someone she has never met – in America. (Yeah, that part didn’t make sense to me either given that she is a smart girl). She takes off for Plymouth where she will be taking a ship across the waters to her betrothed, but along the way, her coach overturns and the drunken driver takes off with their horses. If it isn’t bad enough to be left stranded in the cold on the side of the road with a ruined carriage, another coach stops, but instead of offering assistance, they intend to rob (and worse) Emma and her maid.

Captain Lord Robert Ashton, second Earl of Darington, the ‘Pirate Earl’, Dare is absolutely tongue-tied around females. He sister has convinced him that he needs to find a wife and he’s tried but had no luck. Then, when he and his sister are returning from the wedding of his friend’s sister – Dare’s sister is kidnapped. Dare speeds out after the kidnappers and manages to rescue his sister. He does rescue her, but he gets shot and taken prisoner himself. He’s lying on the floor of the coach, bleeding out, when the coach suddenly stops and he hears the kidnappers raising their voices. They have stopped for a wrecked coach on the side of the road. Barely conscious, Dare realizes that the kidnappers are threatening a young woman.

Emma is trying to plot her escape and sees no way out – when – out of the blue comes a rescuer from inside the coach. As she realizes that her rescuer is wounded and evidently a prisoner as well, they manage to escape on foot. Thus begins a long journey with trouble dogging them at every step. They are pursued by the kidnappers as well as the wicked step-brother – and Emma even ends up on a ship full of smugglers who think she is a light-skirt. Wall-to-wall action and adventure await our intrepid hero and heroine around every corner.

Our heroine has a bright sunny disposition and a strong faith – and our hero has no faith. Emma and Dare each realize that they care for the other, but they doubt that the other cares for them. Each feels that they are lacking in some way, but they see and appreciate the strengths of the other.

I loved this read and was sad to see it end. Now, I think I’ll go back and read the first book in the series.

The second book in the series, follows Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington (Dare) and Emma St James, who meet under interesting and quite dramatic circumstances. Dare having returned to London to find a bride after his illustrious career as a privateer. He and his sister Kate are being followed by other sailors, who have been commandeered to kidnap Kate in order to retrieve the gold that Dare had taken in his latest adventure on the high seas. Emma, unknowingly stumbles across the kidnapping, saving Dares life whilst trying to escape her stepbrother and his threat to deem her insane. Together Dare and Emma (and in a parallel story – Kate and Wynbrook) must try to escape the threat by the pirates whilst trying to resolve their feelings towards each other.

Although this is being marketed as book number two in a series, you do not need to have read the first book in order for this one to make sense. I have't read the first, but from the synopsis I did read, it would appear that that story focuses on Dare's sister, while this book focuses on him.

Speaking just on this story, I feel it fell solidly in the middle of the road for me. It had its moments where I was utterly captivated by the events, and moments that I felt dragged on to the point it became tedious. I feel I must also point out because I know this is a fact that will turn some people off to this story, but there some slight religious overtones sprinkled throughout the story. Emma holds her faith very close, so there is some praying, and some scripture reciting. I personally wasn't bothered by this, I did feel as though it was a little odd given the way it was done, but I know there are some people out here who will not read anything even remotely religious.

The characters on the whole seemed to be well developed with interesting backstories, but when it came to them being together, it seemed as though there was some key element missing that I just couldn't put my finger on.

All things considered, I believe this story may still appeal to those who enjoy slightly historical romance novels with a bi of high sea adventures and intrigue thrown in. I would give this author another chance!

Earl Interrupted (The Daring Marriages, #2)
by Amanda Forester
Definitely a buy book. I only took it to four stars, for there are a couple of very slow places in the book. However, one of the things I love most about this author is her diverse way of writing. I enjoyed her characters. I love the fact she has a plot and builds on it. This book has so many wonderful elements. Romance, suspense, passion, mystery, revenge, betrayal. One of the things I like the most about a good read is having layers of things not just sex. From this truly talented authors writings, I can hardly wait for her next book. So if you are like me and like the many different elements you are going to enjoy this book! A definite good read and well worth your time! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Earl Interrupted gives us beautiful Emma St. James who only wanted to live a simple life, but who lost her mother while young. Her wealthy father, thinking she needed a mother, married a woman whom he thought would be a good motherly replacement. But, she had a selfish son that wanted what Emma had. After Emma’s father died, her step-mom and step-brother raised her with the thought of taking everything from Emma, if not through marriage, then by placing Emma in an asylum.

Emma’s journey to live her life and be able to have what was rightfully hers leads her to meet up with the Pirate Earl. He is trying to save his sister from a kidnapping and gets shot in the rescue. The brigands who tried to kidnap her, happen up Emma’s overturned carriage. Although injured, Dare, the Pirate Earl, helps her escape from them.

Emma refuses to leave Dare to save herself as he keeps telling her. Things just seem to keep getting worse as Emma and Dare get to know and trust each other. Emma’s brother is still after her. Dare is still worried about his sister. This is kind of a madcap adventure that just works. Without being a spoiler, the scene depicted of Emma running around on a ship trying to keep away from her new abductors is hilarious – written very well.

This is a great book to pick up for the weekend. Although containing some seriously sad situations, it has its funny moments along with the bittersweet ones. Emma and Dare find their HEA along with some great solution/s to both of their heartbreaking situations.

Earl, Interrupted takes a young girl who is to be forced into an unwanted marriage with her stepbrother and thrusts her into the intriguing world of piracy upon meeting The Pirate Earl, Dare. The story has the heroine, Emma St. James, practicing medicine which leads to her friendship with Dare. Then it becomes a case of mutually saving one another from family, pirates, and traveling across the Atlantic in the process. This story had so much potential to be an excellent adventurous historical romance. And although the Christian content is something I enjoy reading, it felt a bit out of place in the storyline. Sadly, it fell short in keeping my interest throughout the entire book.

I adored the first book in the series but found the second to be lacking. I had a hard time finishing it because I could just never buy into the relationship. Both the hero and heroine's premises were interesting to me, but when it came time to engage with them... it just fell flat. It was a fine read but not one I would read again.

In his escape attempt he manages to save Emma and her maid from attacking thieves and she returns the favor by nursing him and helping him elude the ones that kidnapped and injured him.
Emma St. James trained by her father to be his assistant is fleeing a forced marriage to her step brother, so that he and her stepmother can take her inheritance, when she is rescued by an injured gentleman. Even knowing he is the Pirate Earl, Emma feels strongly drawn to him.
Darington rescues her again when while escaping her stepbrother, she again winds up in danger. Desperate to capture the traitor who murdered his father he keeps her with him and the pair is captured.

I love the cover, and was excited about the description. Sadly, the quality of the writing was just too painful for me and I wasn't able to make it past the first few chapters. I can't believe Amanda Forester has a dozen books under her belt, as this reads like a somewhat unpolished debut novel. There is certainly lots of potential there, but I feel like it wasn't as well edited and polished as it could have been. Great concept, rather poor execution. Likely would be a fun read if you have slightly lower standards than I find I do! I will keep this in my shelf and give it another go again later, because it really is a great concept, but I just couldn't get into it.

Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, knows finding a bride in London will be quite the task (since he's also known as the "Pirate Earl") Never did he think that he himself would be abducted and to have his escape go so wrong when an innocent woman gets caught in the middle of it.
Amateur physician Emma St. James is on her way to meet her betrothed when she is rescued by an injured gentleman. Even though she is quite shocked to find out that he is the so called Pirate Earl, Emma feels drawn to the man who saved her life. Duty forces them apart, but when they meet again on the sea, Darington will risk it all. He will risk everything he has including his life to keep her safe. Will they be able to stay alive? Will they both throw everything they know aside to be together?
This story is well written and I didn't mind it at all. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads these kinds of books. This is the first time that I have ever read a book written by Amanda Forrester and I wouldn't mind reading other books that she has written.

I found this book has a very slow storyline. I actually skipped whole chapters and was surprised to see that they were still talking about the same thing in the next chapter. I did like the storyline so I did make it to the end so I could see what all happens. But I confess to skipping or skimming more than half of the book.

I absolutely loved this book! Robert and Emma's story had me from the first page and I could barely put the book down. There were parts I laughed and parts I cried. A must read.

Emma St. James still misses her father after his death, which has left her under the care of her step-mother and her son. Unfortunately all they seem to care about is the property and estate her father left to her, on hearing them plotting she flees to try a life in the new world. Her journey is fraught with danger, she is rescued by a handsome stranger who requires her aid to tend to a gunshot wound. The more time they spend together, the harder it is for them to part to carry on with their plans. The story climaxes with an exciting sea rescue and battle. A very enjoyable read.

I did not really enjoy the romance between Emma and Robert. First off, I like a little more heat and passion in my romances. This is a sweet, clean read, which although I know appeals to many, it does not appeal to me. Second, although it was not classified as such, this was a Christian romance. I do not like when romance and religion are mixed together and would not have read it had it been marked as such. The story itself was alright, but just not to my taste.

Wonderful romance with a feisty heroine and a gentlemanly hero. Emma and Dare obviously love each other but need to overcome many obstacles on their way to their happily ever after. I really enjoyed this sweet, clean romance and look forward to reading more books by this author.

Emma St. James must get away from her stepmother and stepbrother. They are trying to get her to marry her stepbrother and have him get her inheritance. Away she goes and then she runs into the "Pirate Earl", The Earl of Darington. The dashing earl is in for a new type of adventure with Emma. This swashbuckling tale takes you aboard his ship with plenty of great characters and exciting adventures! This book is not classified as a Christian historical romance but it does have many references to the scriptures of the bible and prayer. Enjoyable story!

I had really been looking forward to this book - I absolutely loved the first book in the series. While I enjoyed this book I didn't find it quite as distracting as Kate's story.

The main characters were both well developed but I felt that the relationship between the two of them didn't have a strong base - it was very close to being insta-love.

In the end I just didn't love this one. It was a good read and an enjoyable distraction but not one that I think I will go back to.
