DNF, but I got to almost 70% before I gave up. This was just not my kind of thing. I am no romance snob--I enjoy a good romance, but I'm not really into having Bible verses sprinkled throughout. And, TBH, I thought the writing was not very good either, compared to other romance writers who I thoroughly enjoy (e.g., Sarah MacLean,).
I found it hard to card about the characters and the plot was over-the-top complicated. Having the characters from the author's companion book doing their own thing in the background of this book did not work, IMO.

This is the first time I have read a book by Amanda Forester and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I will definitely be checking out more books by this author. The author caught my interest from the first chapter and held it through the epilogue. I liked the main characters of Emma and Dare, the added intrigue of who was trying to cause Dare harm. This story is a great combination of romance, some mystery, intrigue, with a little bit of Christian belief and the Bible thrown in. That seems like an odd combination but it works well. I do not like to retell a story that I have read or even give a synopsis of it as I feel that ruins it for others so my reviews are usually very brief. I do appreciate the opportunity to have read this book before release courtesy of NetGalley.

As a bonus, this is part of a dual story, with two couples, each the center of a book that sees the events from their perspective. We've got a privateer earl looking for the evil man who betrayed and murdered his father, hidden treasure, an heiress with significant skills, on the run from her conniving step-brother who wants to put her in an asylum, and plenty of wound-related reasons to have clothes off.

Dare is a very protective man, “the *******d!” Dare slammed down his cup. “I will take care of him. No need to go to America.” There are times Dare only has one thought in his mind, “don’t care.” He divested himself of his waistcoat and cravat. “May I help with the buttons?” I liked this book, I loved Dare.
