I tried very hard to like this book as the story premise sounded so interesting but I have given up in frustration and no longer care about any of the characters and their ultimate fate.
Every page of this book has errors, grammatical errors, punctuation errors, continuity errors and factual errors.
If this book was given a good copy edit or proofread to sort out the problems then I would read again and probably enjoy the story. As it stands I’m not giving myself a headache trying to work out what the author means when he spouts nonsense like “ a burst of hallow hair coursed around her as she entered.”

Code for murder by Eliot Parker.
An overzealous decision by Cleveland Police Lieutenant Stacy Tavitt leads to a botched undercover investigation, leading to Stacy being attacked and her unconscious body dumped into the frigid Cuyahoga River. Six months later, Stacy’s first case back from medical leave involves the murder of Cleveland Browns football player Devon Baker. With little forensic evidence connecting anyone to the crime, Stacy sets out to find the killer. As Stacy comes very close to unraveling the tangled threads of the case, the killer wants her, and those close to her, to suffer for another impulsive decision she made in the line of duty. The killer just may be more familiar to Stacy than she realizes.
An absolutely fantastic read with likeable characters. Stacy and Austin were my favourite characters.  Didn't like Jamal at all.  5*.

Lt.Stacy Tavitt is a flawed human being. She doesn't always make the wisest decisions at work or in other areas of her life. She was almost killed by criminals when she failed to wait for backup on an undercover operation that went wrong. She now suffers from severe health issues but after an extended absence has returned to work. She fears that any sign of weakness will lead to her being assigned a desk job and she is desperate to avoid that fate.
Stacy and her partner Austin are assigned to the case of an NFL player who was murdered. This is a high profile case so Stacey knows she cannot afford to make any mistakes. Perhaps they are getting closer to the truth since both Austin and Stacey are targeted and injured. But by whom and why?
This was an interesting and fairly well-paced story. The main character Stacey had me shaking my head many times because of her actions. She isn't one of those brilliant members of the police who always seem to be just one step behind the killer until everything suddenly comes together and she saves the day. Stacey has issues both personal and professional but at the end of the day, she just wants to do her best. I didn't love this character and actually, at first I didn't even like her very much, but as the story progressed I came to understand her motivations and she at least earned some of my grudging respect.
This is my first exposure to this author's work and I will look to see what comes next.
Thank you, Eliot Parker, Black Rose Writing and NetGalley for the digital ARC to read and review.

Stacy knows that she should wait for back up but she is afraid that the men will disappear before then and she needs to find her informant. But Stacy makes a mistake and almost loses her life and she is now back on the job but her lungs are badly damaged from her dumping into the icy water. She knows that she has to watch her step or else she will be put on desk duty. Her partner Austin is already on the scene and the dead guy is a NFL player so this means everyone is going to be watching them with interest. The further they dig into his life the more questions they find. But just when they are making progress someone decides that it is time to shut them up. Austin is shot and Stacy is almost driven over but why? Their new ADA Gavin is trying to help but he has serious anger issues and their growing attraction has caused problems but why make it personal? The world of higher played athletes is filled with money, greed and drugs and the team is about to find out who is taking out their members. Will Stacy live to tell the tale and find out the truth? A good read full of action and some pretty wise ass remarks. I liked Stacy as she is a tough woman that hates to show fear but she can admit when she is wrong. Can Gavin be the one to tame her? Austin is one fine looking man. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

Review: CODE FOR MURDER by Eliot Parker

Since her near-death in the Cuyahoga River, caused by a pair of criminals with few brain cells, Detective (now Lieutenant) Stacy Tavitt of the Cleveland Police Department has become a cold-hearted individual, a strong investigator but with difficulty in interpersonal encounters. When the corpse of a professional football player is discovered outdoors, the wounds clearly indicating a crime of passion, Stacy finds herself floundering in an unknown milieu, her investigative talents and her health stretched to the fullest.

Stacy (or Lt Tavitt when she’s being a bitch) seems to consider herself God’s gift for law enforcement. The new ADA is nice enough to give her a ride to her burning apartment while she comments on the car smelling of cheap cologne and coffee. A real cheerful person. The ADA gets his payback when he calls her a cold, dismissive bitch which she for some reason finds offensive! Go figure! So those were my first impression of Code for Murder by Eliot Parker. I have never read anything from this author before and I am not sure if I will leave it at that. The story line seems to wander all over the place and several things just seem too unbelievable. I don’t think the Cleveland Browns football owners and managers will be too pleased with the portrayal of their team and if I worked for the police department or the prosecutors office I would probably not be too proud either. Lt Tavitt seems to do what she wants even though once in a while her captain tries to rein her in to no avail. I have never been to Cleveland but thought I could imagine the place by the descriptions. I am not sure if I would recommend this book but I might. Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

an unusual mystery because the protagonist is very human- making a lot of poor decisions but somehow survives. the missteps seem very real and it keeps you guessing with all the twists and turns but somehow it all comes together in the end.

Thank you to Netgalley the publishing house and most of all, the author, for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.

I have to say, I thought this was going to be a good book. I was wrong. This book had a good storyline, but the problems with editing and spelling ruined it for me. I am not in law enforcement, but even I knew that some things seemed implausible or wrong, perhaps these things could have been picked up by editing.

I didn't find the main character, Stacy, was that well written, I found it was like the author changed their mind about Stacy's motives during the writing process. I must say though, it really had good plot line, and there were some good twists and turns and lots of action.

I love this book. This was a new to me author, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This story is rock solid. It takes so many twists and turns. This was one of the few stories that I honestly didn't know how the end was going to happen or who was committing the murders. I couldn't stop reading until the last page. I can't wait to read the next one. This is a solid five-star page turner the likes of which you haven't seen lately. I have been looking for a good suspense and this definitely fit the bill.

This book has a great, complex plot revolving around the mysterious death of a Cleveland Browns player and the ensuing police investigation, led by Lieutenant Stacy Tavitt. The story is full of twists and turns, including a connection to a prior case of Lieutenant Tavitt's, which the reader learns about in the beginning of the book. The characters are interesting and fairly well-developed. The author is good at setting a scene and providing details to help the reader feel like they part of the action. The book proceeds at a steady pace.

However, for me, the overall reading experience was greatly diminished by the poor proofreading. I am pretty sure that I agreed to provide a review after the book's July 2017 publication date and therefore the Kindle version I received should be what was actually published. If so, I feel for anyone who actually spent money on the book. There are numerous occasions where characters are referred to by the wrong name. The spelling of a minor character's name changes in the chapter in which he is introduced and in a later chapter there is a third spelling for this character's name. There are multiple spots where the author seemed unable to chose between two words and left both words in, which results in the sentence reading awkwardly. Other types of grammatical errors could be highlighted. The occasional spelling or grammar error in a book is not surprising, but the quantity of errors in this book was too great, reflecting poorly on both the author and the publisher.

This would easily be a four star book without the numerous mistakes.

I quite enjoyed this book and I could find myself sympathising with Stacy and her health struggles. I did feel that it was a little Stacy overload but good story and will look for other books by Eliot Parker again

This was an exciting and interesting mystery. Not recalling that I had purchased this book, I got a copy from NetGalley. I made allowances as I went along for the typos, pronoun mistakes, character identities switched, etc. I hoped that an editor and proofreader were busy correcting all the errors. I am not going to spend my time checking my purchased copy to see if that is true. Overall the book was entertaining and fast moving. Will there be another book giving Chance another chance? Will the romance be a problem? Health issues? This is one beat up team of detectives and policemen.

This was a very well written police procedural with a determined female detective, her partner Austin and Gavin the new Assistant County Prosecutor. They are the trail of a murderer and the trail leads them through many twists and turns of suspense and intrigue. What starts as one murder becomes something else entirely and the way that this story plays out leaves the reader wanting the next book. Thank you NetGalley and Eliot Parker for allowing me to read and give an honest review of this book.

I was looking forward to this book but boy was I wrong. The plot was all over the place if you can call it a plot. The beginning was good and I thought it would continue like that but it didn't. The book starts with me wondering if this was real. It felt so fake She takes on a gang single handily, which didn't seem believable. Then they catch her and throw her in to the water. That's it, you do not get to find out how she gets out who saves her there was just no description it was so disappointing.

I did not read the whole book it was that bad. And I will not be reading any others by this author. It needs more plot, detail and description. Maybe the book got better as you kept reading but I had lost interest and did not want to keep reading.

Code for Murder is a terrific book. This mystery has a great plot and well developed characters. The plot kept me guessing. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good mystery.

2 stars

“Stacy pressed her lips tightly against her face.” Huh? Seriously? Oh, Stacy, Stacy, Stacy. It seemed every other sentence started with “Stacy…” Too much of this book is more than a little boring and very slow moving. I’m sorry, but there are far too many books to read to spend time on one like this.

I want to thank NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for forwarding to me a copy of this book to try out.

I really did want to enjoy this book but it was too slow for me. I struggled to like the character of Stacy but she is beyond irritating. I am sorry to say, I gave up reading halfway through.Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads and Amazon.

Cleveland Police Lieutenant Stacy Tavitt investigates the murder of a Browns football player, Devon Baker. Clues and forensic evidence are mostly absent and progress is slow as she and her partner, Sergeant Austin Cerrera, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Gavin Knox, and others question his known friends and associates. Then another player is killed. Stacy and her team try to put separate pieces together to catch a killer.

Lots of description and detail, plenty of action, and a romance. Despite those ingredients, I found it rather slow moving and really did not like the character of Stacy at all. She happens to also have a somewhat severe case of thoracic outlet syndrome that really should have incapacitated her more, but she is all over the place, never sleeps or eats, etc. Of course she doesn't follow orders or rules of police procedure and is allowed to continue working the case. There were few surprises in the convoluted, complicated case and the connection of the murder victims. And, worst of all, a little tease at the end -- assume this is the first in a new series. I doubt I'll continue, however.

Thank you to NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for the opportunity to read and review this e-book ARC.
