I highly recommend this book for the knitter and for knit teachers. It is great and easy to follow. It has great patterns.

The designs are beautiful. The patterns very good also,
But the models were distracting. In the pictures, you pay more attention to the models hair do than to the beautiful sweaters.
A book with a lot of possibilities. But if I have to spend money on it....I wouldn't buy it.
If I get it as a present I would be happy.

Really enjoyed the patterns in this book, I felt like they were classic and very wearable. Definitely will be seeking this book out to buy and make some of the patterns that were in this book.

Cables, Cables, and more Cables… If you’re familiar with knitting, are looking to make a new sweater, enjoy the cable look, this might just be the book you’re looking for, especially if you’re looking for some sweaters for the males in your life. I love that this author includes that, as I find that hard to find in most knitting books. This book has a nice assortment of ideas and beyond sweaters; it includes mittens, a scarf and other things with the cable look.
I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Most of the patterns in this felt too outdated for my personal Millennial style (which is interesting considering the title) but there were one or two patterns I may make in the future.

I hope the quality of photography is better in the physical book and final digital edition, because the e-galley I received was atrocious; shadows so bad you couldn't see the models eyes, horrible glare on every picture - it hurt my eyes so bad I could only look at it for short periods of time without getting a headache. There weren't many designs I would want to knit (although I did love the cabled dress), but I would strongly disagree with these being contemporary designs - rather I felt like many would've done better in the 80's. It wasn't until the end that I saw the designer was a man, and it saddens me to have to give the book such a poor review, because I would love to have more male designers in the knitting community, but this just wasn't for me.

*I received an ARC from Netgalley, the review is my own opinion.*

This book has some wonderful cable patterns and is suited to intermediate or advanced knitters.. The designs are modernized classics which are richly textured. They are shown to great advantage in the lovely colourful photographs. A book to browse through many times and perhaps to dream of knitting the designs.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a digital review copy.

Unfortunately most of the designs in this book were definitely not for me. They didn't seem very current in trends, and the model with the outrageous hair was extremely distracting. They did seem to be written well enough, with adequate information and well charted patterns.

Too old fashioned for me - not particularly contemporary in construction or color choices! Overall, couldn't really get past the styling or yarn choices.

I could not download this book, I tried twice. It would have been better in kindle format.

A very well put-together book with new twists on the classic Aran style of knitting in sweaters and accessories. With graphed and written instructions for each project, this is well worth reading and purchasing for knitters everywhere. The oversized wrap is simply gorgeous!

The cover of this book promised something I am always looking for - modern, fashionable knitting patterns. The contents, unfortunately did not deliver. This book is similar to so many other knitting books, full of frumpy garments with only one, or maybe two patterns that I would actually want to knit..

This book was full of old patterns recycled and reimagined by knitting them in two colours or photographing them on younger models. I found the colouring of the photographs and the garments very unappealing.

The section on how to knit cables looked very good and comprehensive so might well be useful for someone new to cabling. However, although this book may be good for new (but competent) knitters, for any experienced knitters it will simply be repeating what you probably already have in your knitting pattern collection.

The patterns in this book are very well-designed and beautiful, if a bit ambitious. Well-photographed, with charted out cables, as well as written out.

This book contains a wide variety of projects, as well as a range of skill levels. There are several small projects for beginners, such as scarf, hat, and mittens. But there are also some intermediate projects on a larger scale, such as dresses and sweaters (both men's and women's). I like that this book is focused on cables - cables are some of the easiest things to learn, but make the biggest textural impact in your work. For some reason I find knitting cables very relaxing.
This book does require some chart reading for the cable pattern portions, so for those of us who are only accustomed to written patterns, this may take some patience.

Mr. Long, an internationally known knitwear designer, has redesigned 21 classic sweaters and accessories for a modern audience. Mostly this involves knitting his cabled patterns in colored yarns rather than in the traditional white, but he has also changed the hems and bottom fitting details, moving away from ribbing. As with any knitting book I like some of the designs better than others. I quite like the Buttonless Chunky Cardigan, but the color choice for the Oversize Wrap strikes me as unfortunate. Would the thing look better in white? No one in my world wears shrugs. The front closing of the waistcoat is nice but again, no one I know would wear it. The two tunic dresses would look very nice on someone who could wear that style.

Mr. Long's designs are for intermediate to advanced knitters. His instructions are detailed and include text and charted patterns. His taste in yarn runs a bit chunkier than mine and I suspect that I would have to spend a bit of time adjusting my gauge. He is spare with is finishing instructions. I look at the cabled scarf and wonder whether it will curl. Some of the hems look a bit raggedy and I wonder if a tiny bit of extra picot work on them will be needed.

If you are thinking to run up a nice heavy sweater for the winter, this is a book to consider.

I received a review copy of "Contemporary Cables: Classic Aran Reimagined in Current Styles" by Jody Long (Dover) through NetGalley.com.

I have some really antiquated Arran knit books. Seeing one that brings that knitting style into the here and now is a godsend! The instructions are clear, the patterns beautifully designed and modern. There was nothing not to love.
