The last person Jason Mann ever expects to cross a line is sweet Meg Marvell, the woman he'd fallen for–and left–two years ago. An accidental meeting has Meg asking for answers, which he'll give if she travels hundreds of miles to her cousin's ranch where he works. Maybe making her go out of her way will help Meg understand that he's not a good guy. His rough past makes it impossible to fit into her world. Middle-child Meg Marvell has spent her life brokering peace and bending to avoid conflict. She lives cautiously, rarely takes risks, steps back when confronted. And she is damned tired of it. It’s time to tackle life on her own terms. Break free. And what better way than to answer Jason Mann’s challenge? He doesn’t believe she’ll travel to her cousin’s ranch to discuss why he disappeared from her life, so she does him one better and hires on. She didn’t want him back—she wants to prove that she can rise to a challenge. Unfortunately, the attraction they once shared has not withered and died as she’d once thought…if anything it’s stronger than ever.
This was a decent story. Second chance romances are hit and miss with me. The overall story is pretty good but Meg tended to get on my nerves a bit. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Nothing is as it seems in this tale of star crossed romance and adult angst. What happens when doing the right thing turns out to be all wrong? The Cowboy Rides Away is a story of missed chances and mending fences. The road to forever is littered with obstacles but the reward is the healing of two broken hearts.

Two years ago, Jason Mann walked away from Meg Marvell with no real explanation. When they meet again by chance, Meg realizes she is tired of just accepting things, and goes looking for answers. Realizing that it is going to take more than a conversation, Meg gets a job working at her cousins' ranch, taking a chance that constant contact will get Jason to finally open up.
Try as he might, Jason can't resist Meg as old feelings come welling up. The reasons he left haven't changed, but maybe it's time to lay it all on the table and see if they can have a future.
A sweet, second chance romance with a side of strengthening Marvel family ties make this a quick enjoyable read. It is part of a family series, but can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

Family feuds are some of the most annoying, frustrating and dangerous minefields to try to navigate through unharmed. It’s somehow even worse when a couple’s love gets caught in the crossfire. It’s really hard to know if Jason made his decision for the wrong reasons or for the right ones – that mostly depends on who you’re talking to. The bottom line is that he made a choice to walk away from Meg. It certainly wasn’t easy but knowing her personality Jason felt it was a decision that would stick for both of them. Neither would like it, but then Meg certainly wouldn’t push on his choice and he couldn’t back down from it. Jason forgot one thing.. within every timid kitten lies the heart of a tigress just waiting for her chance to take over. He pushed too far… and now Meg is willing to cross that line in the sand. She wants and deserves answers… and this newborn tigress is determined to get them no matter how far she has to travel.

While Jason and Meg’s story is a romance with all the twists and turns involved in sorting out that emotion – it’s also a coming into her own power story for Meg. She’s always been the one to stop fights, never question a decision she doesn’t like, rarely stands up for herself and is indeed a loving, timid kitten. And as we all know, one day kittens grow up. Meg has her moment of enough is enough. She’ll find the courage to redefine herself, to do what is right for her and to get answers from the man she loves, even if he is a stubborn, hardheaded bull at times.

I enjoyed The Cowboy Rides Away on many different levels. It has a little bit of everything that makes a romance a perfect read, for me. Stubborn people, issues to be dealt with, coming into power and touches of danger along with the sexiness. Yep, everything that makes any Jeannie Watt story an auto read for me. I would recommend this story, and the series, for any Romance reader who enjoys a deeper story, believable events, likable characters a touch of danger, and a satisfying ending.

"The Cowboy Rides Away" is a story of second chances with a twist. Timid Meg Marvell who usually second guess herself created this second chance with Jason Mann, the cowboy she fell in love with and then walked away. Short of saying Carpe Diem, Meg decided to apply for a summer job at ranch where Jason works.

Easy peasy… right? Not really. Jason has issues that even Meg cannot imagine nor understand. But, as an old saying goes – love conquers all … Meg has to be strong enough for both her and Jason so that they can get over that bump. After that, Jason can take their relationship to the next level. The question is, will Meg be strong enough?

A romantic story wrapped around a serious subplot of family dynamics, Jeannie Watt shone a light on overcoming obstacles with a little help from your friends.

"The Cowboy Rides Away" is Rated T for Teens due to adult situations. There are sex scenes in this book but they are implied and not graphic.

Jason and Meg ... loved them and it was great to have a bit of a cross over novel from two of Tule's Montana towns. I cheered for Meg breaking away from safe choices and really taking a chance with Jason - she blossomed and grew stronger throughout the book. Jason's past held him back as did his unwillingness to share that past - he put up barriers to protect Meg from the threat he perceived himself to be, not seeing that regardless of his family he was a truly good and worthy person.

I was annoyed an frustrated, the writing was not bad, so it will not get a two star, but I wanted to slap both Meg and Jason. Meg, give it a break and just leave Jason alone, darn it. Jason, everyone has issues, they needed to grow up.

A Cowboy Rides Away is book three of the Marvells of Montana series by Jeannie Watt. It is the story of Megan Marvel and Jason Mann. I loved this book because of the sheer grit exhibited by Megan. She has been a peace maker all her life, avoiding confrontation at all costs. When the love of her life, Jason, appears after a two year absence, Meg draws in her fears and finds a way to put herself back in his life. She wants closure to his abrupt departure and needs to find out what really happened.

Unbeknownst to Meg, Jason has very personal deeply hidden reasons for leaving her even though it has left an unfillable void in him. As Megan shows a different and new aspect of herself, will Jason be led to face his demons and be honest or will he run again? Meg is determined to try and try again to reach the inner core of his heart.

I haven't read a Jeannie Watt story for a while but she's one of those authors whose books always leave me feeling good when I reach the end. That was certainly the case with The Cowboy Rides Away, which has a second chance at love theme.
Set in the gorgeous Montana countryside, this modern day western offered plenty to like. The people were warm and friendly with plenty of depth and it was easy to like both Meg and Jason. I liked the background thread involving healing the rift between the two sides of Meg's extended family and can't help wondering whether this is a hint at more stories involving her sisters and cousins in the future. Regardless, I liked this story. I read it fast because I wanted to see how things would pan out and overall it made me smile, which is what a good story is all about for me.

Why not break the rule... Why not give herself the chance to prove herself...Those were the questions our gal asks to herself when she is challenge to come and follow up with an exchange with the bad boy who thinks he isn't good enough for her...

Well surprise surprise... not only does she take him up on coming to the ranch... she gets employed to work it! What our guy change his views about the love he always wanted.

The Cowboy Rides Away by Jeannie Watt has a character that I admired if I questioned a bit too; it is not the cowboy either. It is Meg Marvell who is feed up with being the passive, cautious person she has always been. Here we find her with the gumption to take that dare and throw down one of her own. She may have gone a bit overboard though chasing after Jason as she did.

A pleasing second chance romance with drama, angst and a woman who has grown into herself. The cowboy is not bad, Jason is simply stuck in the past. Time to move on and live a life that you love, man.

I truly enjoyed The Cowboy Rides Away by Jeannie Watt, the third book in her Marvells of Montana. This is a second chance story with Meg Marvell accidently running into Jason Mann a year after their break up. Meg is at loose ends after losing her teaching job, unsure of what direction she wants to follow. After her encounter with Jason, she takes up his challenge and travels a few hundred miles to work at her cousins’ ranch, outside of Marietta, Montana. Working together Meg and Jason find that their attraction and chemistry did not die out during their separation, but is actually stronger. Jason needs to figure out how to tame his demons before he can give Meg the love she deserves.

I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Watt drew me in and did not let go until I read the last page. I definitely recommend this book to other readers and look forward to reading more books by Ms. Watt.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Complex and well rounded characters, a tortured hero who slowly learns to trust himself and the heroine, great dialogue and a second-chance and slow romance make this story a rather enjoyable read.
Jason and Meg are both cautious people and it isn’t until the second half of the story that we find out the reasons for Jason’s remoteness and distance. And are they understandable… “He’s like a skittish horse. Needs patience” (quote from ARC, loc. 1979).
I liked Meg’s new found assertiveness and how she learned to test her boundaries.
I also liked that they were reasonable people who had their issues, insecurities and fears but got to talk about it.
And I loved the setting and the work training horses.

Second chance romances are truly my favorite and this is a great one. Meg Marvell thought she and Jason Mann had a great thing going. Then he left without a word. Seeing him again after 2 years is a shock but she needs answers and she's determined to get them. The only way he will agree to answer her questions is if she comes back to her cousin's ranch with him. Once there she shocks him by taking a job and pretty much ignoring him. Seeing her everyday is slowly driving him crazy and if he doesn't get her to leave soon he will lose his resolve to protect her by leaving her alone.

A great read and one I recommend.

Man did I find this book annoying. It's frustrating reading a romance that isn't particularly romantic.

I did not dislike Meg (our heroine) or Jason (our hero). Mostly, I wanted to slap them both (in a kind and loving way) and tell them to grow the hell up or at least buy some kind of self-help book. I get that Jason had some issues with relationships, but what I never quite understood was why Meg kept forcing her presence on someone who repeatedly asked her to let go. If the roles had been reversed it was have seemed pretty stalkerish.

When people run away from you it's an excersize in futility to chase them. There are like 2,569 country songs about that subject and country songs don't lie.

Anyway, this is not my favorite book of Watt's but I have liked her other books in the series so it was worth reading for me as I like to know what's going on when I read other books that mention background characters.

A delightful second chance romance with plenty of angst and turmoil as well as characters growing up, this is an engaging read - but that’s what I always expect from this talented author! In this story, two years ago Jason Mann left his job and the woman he loved, Meg Marvell, with the very best of intentions - to protect her. Now they’ve accidentally met up again and Meg has decided she’s no longer the ‘don’t make waves, accept the inevitable and avoid conflict’ person she was any more. She wants to know why he left her. She doesn’t want him back. She does want answers.

This is a story of trying to do the right thing but actually causing yourself and others a load of heartache in the process. This couple are struggling to remain apart because they are so much better in every way when they are together. There are so many issues from the past they need to acknowledge, accept and move on from that it won’t be easy - but it will certainly be worthwhile! Can they resolve their relationship before the cowboy rides away again? There are a great range of characters in this heartwarming story, some have been in other stories I've read, and I hope many of them will feature in future books in this series - especially Meg's cousins. I certainly enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more from this author in future.

I requested and was given a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.

The Cowboy Rides Away continues the Marvells of Montana series. Megan and Jason dated while he worked on her family's ranch, but left her. She runs into him two years later and decides that she wants some answers. She doesn't take no for an answer this time, and makes Jason face his past.

What can I say about Jason and Meg? They both need to do a lot of growing up. They both need to stop running. They both need to own their actions. They both need to be together. The Cowboy Rides Away is a bittersweet book in many ways - primarily centered around Jason's backstory. But, Meg really needed to grow a backbone too. This is a clear case of better together, but to do that, they needed to let go of their past issues and get on with getting on.

I liked both Meg and Jason because both of them made choices to stand up and stop being afraid. Jason is the more sympathetic character for me because of his terrible family but Meg reminds me more of myself. It's a good pairing and an interesting cast of characters.

I look forward to reading more about the Marvells and seeing how things progress.

Story about second chances. Not as romantic as I like and felt Meg was a glutton for punishment in putting up with Jason's constantly spurring the relationship. Author did slowly reveal why Jason acted as he did but not in a manner I found satisfying.
