There was a movie based on this man, "Wolf of Wall Street", starting Leo DiCaprio. While I've never watched the flick, I was very interested in his story, which is why I wanted to read this book.

Don't get me wrong, the book is extremely informative and helpful for teaching his Straight Line Selling System. Jordan Belfort goes step by step into how it got started and many steps along the way to reach the point where he got consistent results.
"The bottom line is that nonverbal communication is ten times more powerful than verbal communication, and it hits you with the force of a cannonball to the gut." -Chapter 8
An important part of making an influence is our nonverbal cues. It's everything about how we dress, how we present ourself, our physical posture, the confidence we have in ourself and in what we are presenting.
"people want to do business with people who are basically like them." -Chapter 8
There are many useful nuggets in this book. I've highlighted so many more! Although, I'll be honest, it took me what felt like for-EV-er to read this book! Maybe it's because it's not my usual genre or maybe the topic is above my head. Even though it's full of these amazing tidbits, I personally struggled to read it all.
"Way of the Wolf" by Jordan Belfort was provided complimentary for an honest review. I give this book 3-stars because it took me forever to read, with the "fine print" that it's not my usual genre of choice.

The book was ok. Mr. Belfort has a wonderful way of living his life and helping others. Some people this just doesn't apply to or they just aren't that type of a person to sell, sell, sell. It was informative, but just not for me.

Sorry, this is currently a DNF for me. It's not that I wasn't expecting arrogance from the author, but somehow the sheer quantity of it made reading the book feel like an uphill battle. Rest, read, rest, read a little more. On the other hand, there are some interesting strategies presented in the book. I do plan to keep reading, just after a little more rest...

As a real estate coach and trainer, I spend most of my day trying to help real estate agents improve sales and closing skills.

This articulates and teaches better than I do the step by step process to influence people to have the courage to do what they want to do ... find a better home.

I've always said that we don't have an inventory problem in real estate, we have a sales person problem.

This book is the tool I will use to teach them to be sales professionals

Thank you for writing this book!

It is so clear and easy to follow, entertaining and powerful

I loved it

This how-to book gets to the nitty-gritty of how to inspire confidence using not only the correct phrases (there are lots of books about that) but also the nuance of using voice pitch and dynamics. So for telephone sales, especially, where voice is the key medium, optimum success is gained with optimum use of the voice. Seasoned and successful salesperople may already have discovered these techniques, but newbies haven't, so this is a good book for trainers and trainees. I see the advices given here being best absorbed by using them in role playing prior to "real life" situations
.
As with any tool, these techniques can be used for good or evil. In his previous life, Belfort used these techniques to defraud clients, allegedly. This text has a Politically Correct theme of using these techniques to genuinely serve the client's needs, not the seller's quotas.

This is not the Jordan Belfort that I've read in the past. A bit too dry for my reading

I had a hard time getting past the cover page and through the excerpt. The cockiness of the writing kept me from wanting to read the entire book. I have not doubt that there are great strategies in the book, but I could not get into the style of writing. I do want to read the entire book, but I may wait until it is in the library.

Discovering the sales and persuasion secrets, sorry system, as developed and utilised by ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, aka Jordan Belfort, is the aim of this book. Belfort’s ‘Straight Line Selling’ system is said to be a slam-dunk way of converting customers into hard currency. This reviewer cannot comment on the system, but the book didn’t wholeheartedly win me over.

The concept and promise is attractive and interesting, but the realisation was a bit of a turgid, narrative and mixed read. It requires focus, a sequential read and then a lot more besides. It could have been a lot greater, instead it felt a mix of narrative, novel, diary and part-time teaching aid. Fortunately, it has a low price point and, perhaps, if you want to reap success you must be prepared to undergo a bit of pain in the learning process along the way. With this book, the latter may be true!

Publicity material for the book said that it was written in Belfort’s own inimitable voice: perhaps that is the mistake? Did the voice get lost in translation to the page, since there can be a big difference to reading about something and discovering it in a face-to-face or audio/video presentation? The underlying concept can be great but its delivery into a book just didn’t cut it.

Reading through the system it makes a lot of sense, although does the book glorify or over-simplify it? Clearly a review cannot put it to the test. It would certainly benefit from a major edit, more recaps and a clearer, straighter text to let the reader discover a broader picture.

Reluctantly, it is a book you should have in your hands before you make a purchase decision and take a long, hard look at it to see if you can form a connection.

WARNING: Those who are expecting a sequel to "The Wolf on Wall Street" will be disappointed.
This is a how-to-sell book.
This is a self-help book for anyone who wants to improve his ability to sell anything.

The book has a casual, conversational tone throughout.
Some may see this as attractive and it usually is.
However, with Belfort, it makes the book into a long-winded book.
He often goes off on tangents instead of sticking with a punchy, direct style.

The book has promising moments. It features many lists and steps that are useful.

However, in the end, you begin to wonder how special is this "Exclusive Straight Line Selling System."

I'll give you an example. Belfort emphases that scripts are crucial for sales.
When you're 83% into the book, Belfort shows how a reengagement process looks like. I'll quote from the book....

You: Hi, is Bill there?
Your Prospect: Yeah, this is Bill.
You: Hey, Bill! It's John Smith, calling from XYZ Securities, on Wall St. How you doing today?
Your Prospect: I'm OK.
You: OK, great! Now, Bill, if you recall, we spoke a few weeks back, and I emailed you a bit of information on my company, XYZ Securities, along with some links to a few of our recent stock recommendations. Does that ring a bell?
Your Prospect: Uh, yeah, I think so.
You: OK, great! Now, Bill, the last time we spoke, I promised to get back to you when I came across an investment idea that had huge upside potential with very little downside risk. Well, the reason for the call today is that something just came across my desk, and it's perhaps the best thing I've seen in the last 6 months. If you have 60 seconds, I'd like to share the idea with you. You got a minute?

Belfort ends that script with, "And that's it. From there, you're going to smoothly transition into the main body of your presentation...."

So, yeah. That's it.

After you've read most of the book, that's the culmination of your learning: a script that, to my ears, is pretty cringe-worthy.
It smells of a used-car salesman's pitch.
It stinks of the same script that shady stock peddlers were hawking on the movie of the Wolf on Wall St.

I'm sure Belfort is an extremely effective salesman; otherwise, he wouldn't be so successful.

Somehow he's unable to truly transfer his skills and knowledge in this book.
Perhaps in person, he's far more effective.
I suspect there are better books out there that can help you be a more effective salesperson.

I had mixed emotions about Way of the Wolf. There's a strong undercurrent of arrogance and pomposity (look at the cover photo) running through the book. "I felt as if I were channeling [the System] from... a place of infinite knowledge and wisdom." And his system was so utterly brilliant that, after he deigned to teach it to people who could barely "walk and chew gum at the same time," even they were able to make millions.

But. If you can get past all that, and it's a lot to get past, I grant you - sort of like eating a really good fish filet with a lot of bones - there are some useful sales tools that I haven't seen before.

Bestselling author and “The Wolf of Wall Street”, Jordan Belfort, shares step-by-step instructions on using his very successful Straight Line System for any business, industry and even your personal life. He notes that you do not have to be in sales to use this system. You can use it from selling your great qualities in a job interview to selling anyone on a great idea.

He teaches one how to use the Three Tens to influence a customer. He discusses the five core elements of the Straight Line System and notes the three things that “absolutely must come across in the first four seconds of an encounter with a customer”. There are many other great factors to consider of which he includes examples and links to his website.

You may be thinking, “Why would I want to read this really dry subject material? I’m not in sales.” I admit I thought the same thing when I began, but Mr. Belfort’s writing, practical examples and great stories really move this book along, and I found myself thinking of ways to use various tips in my professional and personal life. As one who has not watched the move, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, I was able to form my own opinion of Mr. Belfort’s style and persona, and I can understand why he is so successful. I wholeheartedly recommend this self-help guide to selling pretty much anything you want.
