Emma and Jasper meet when Emma is sent to Whisper Creek to be the temporary nursing home director. Jasper’s father lives in Whisper Creek and Jasper spends lots of time at the home.
Emma is from Florida, so the mountains and the weather in Montana is weird for her. She’s excited about this job because she thinks it’s going to bring her closer to her goal of a promotion.
Jasper has a lot of baggage he thinks he needs to be punished for the things that have happened to his wife. His friends and family spend a lot of time trying to absolve him of his guilt. Emma has her own baggage, but she quickly finds herself falling for Jasper. She deals with his baggage too. But can they both get past their pasts to move on?

Another cute book in the Whisper Creek series sees Emma coming to fill in at the retirement home where Jasper's dad is a resident. These two have plenty of chemistry on their own but are helped out by the meddling residents of the home (and of Whisper Creek). I was a little surprised by the curveball that we were thrown at the end, but overall an enjoyable read.

I do not know why this one sat on my kindle for so long but it is a crime. This was so, so good! Jasper and Emma have so much chemistry it is a wonder they did not burn down the nursing home and coffee shop and everything in between. Emma is sent to Montana for what is supposed to be 3 months while the director of the nursing home is out for surgery and she is more comfortable in her cubicle but give her a manual and she will make it work. Well, the patients are bound and determined to get her out of the office and make her work for it. Jasper has not met a problem he cannot solve and when he gets a look at Emma he is not sure she is going to stick but he is not going to let her fail, after all his dad is one of the patients. These two were perfection! This was not only a sweet story but it was full of all the feels and had me sighing way into the night since I could not put it down.

A cute and sweet romance between local Jasper and out of towner Emma. There is a backstory to both that creates hesitation on their willingness to move the relationship forward but like with all good romances, they overcome it for their HEA. My only complaint is that the backstory came out too close to the end and not really explored enough for my satisfaction.

GREAT CHARACTERS! - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Emma thinks she's on the fast-track to a promotion when she's assigned by the home office in Florida to temporarily run a nursing home in Montana, even though she has no experience. But she's determined, so she goes out of her comfort zone to handle things.

Writing - 4 stars - I've enjoyed reading this series very much. McGinnis writes in a sweet, easy-to-read style that is very relaxing and enjoyable.

Characters - 5 stars - I totally loved these characters! Jasper is a silly, crazy guy who is always looking out for others, besides running a popular coffee shop. He's so warm and friendly, even though he keeps his own secrets very well. Emma is the careful type, mostly because she's been belittled by her own highly-successful family over her career choices. She's very reserved and is forced (through a series of amusing activities) to leave her office comfort zone and get personally involved with the residents. But she's funny and full of fun when she allows herself to relax. I would love to hang out with either one or both of these people, for sure.

Title - 4 stars - We know that Emma has come to Montana because of her job, but as she feels more comfortable, we find her more willing to risk taking a chance with activities at the nursing home as well as in her personal life. Jasper, we discover, is himself trying to overcome his past, so getting closer to Emma is a risk too, and I certainly was hoping he'd take a chance on her too.

Cover - 4 stars - This cover is definitely romantic and sweet and sets the tone for the book.

Overall - 4 stars - As with all the books from this series, I totally loved the setting. Montana (and Whisper Creek in particular) sound gorgeous and a perfect spot to release stress and enjoy life. In addition, the characters really stole the show for me this time. Jasper is just the sort of silly and fun-loving hero that I love, while still being vulnerable (and with a back story) beneath his surface. Emma is the shy and uncomfortable type, but we all know that she's cute and sweet behind her awkward façade. They make an adorable couple, and I couldn't help but root for their success. My only problem is the lack of sexual scenes. I don't necessarily need to read all the details, but competing skipping the entire scene leaves an empty space in the narrative. We leave Jasper unbuttoning her shirt, then all of a sudden it's the next morning. Of course, we can surmise what happened, but it's like watching a design show on TV and leaving out all the demo and rebuilding parts, just showing the reveal at the end with no build-up. Disappointing, but not unexpected with this series. Other than that, I loved the book and will definitely look for more from this author.

A cute read that I really enjoyed! I would definitely read more by Maggie McGinnis in the future.

I have loved Maggie McGinnis’ Whisper Creek series from the start and I’m thrilled that she has expanded the series to include some of the area’s beloved characters. I loved this story of two damaged individuals finding love when they least expect it and need it the most.

Instead of a promotion Emma Winthrop is sent to Montana to fill in for a nursing home director who will be out on medical for several months. While Emma loves her work in the home office despite many of her ideas being shot down by her immediate boss, she has no idea how to run a center or how to live where the snow will be flying soon but she’s determined to do the best job she can do and secure her promotion when she returns.

Jasper Stone loves Carefree, Montana and his shop Java Beans, the move from California has been good for him and his father who is a resident of Shady Acres and in the early stages of dementia. Jasper is known for his playful nature and his willingness to help everyone in town.

What I loved about this book was on the outside it seemed like a sweet, charming, fun little love story but as this story unfolds it becomes much deeper when we learn that both Emma and Jasper have some deep seeded issues. I loved the slow burn between them and that despite some missteps along the way; they found their way back to one another after some soul searching and a bit of outside help from their friends at Whisper Creek ranch.

Sometimes a messy romance can turn out to be beautiful and that’s exactly what happens in Taking A Chance by Maggie McGinnis.

Her stories and unique, and her writing always captures my heart and keeps me entertained. I highly recommend this cute and sweet romance book to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel.

I actually hadn't heard of Maggie McGinnis or this book series before reading this novel. Even though it is in a series it can be read as a standalone. Jasper and Emma are really likable characters and I enjoyed reading their story. She's feisty and he's silly. They make a cute pair. I just wish there was more spark between the two. They seem like two really good friends that enjoy each other company more than anything else.

It was a quick read and I definitely want to check out the other books in the series before shelving it.

Emma is working for a corporation that runs nursing homes. She works in the main office in Florida and has ideas that can be uplifting and that is of the normal but she is shot down at every turn by her boss. She is now being shipped for a lack of better term to Whisper Creek nursing home because the director is having surgery and then recovery. Before she arrives you meet Jasper. Actually, he is holding wheelchair races which of course are not approved, but the residents like them and most of the other attics that he brings along. Just for the record, I can relate to Jasper nothing like one person mucking it up for everyone else because of one thing or the other. The director asks him knowing it will be a most monumental task on his part to behave while she is gone and because there will be a new person filling in for her from the corporate office. He agrees, but of course, she arrives early because she wants to do well in this job for a promotion only to what she thinks is chaos and mayhem, but everything is really fine until she tries to tell Jasper he can’t be there. What she does not realize is that he is there for a man who his own children don’t come to visit, and is also keeping his father in good spirits. Now Emma must come to some kind of terms with Jasper because she notices that he is there mornings, afternoons and nights. This is when the story and the two of them begin to take off. Maggie McGinnis has become a favorite of mine and I request her whenever I can because her books never disappoint. This was no exception. It had everything in it. Funny, poignancy, angst, and a couple with a lot of chemistry. This was a no-brainer of a read for me and 5 stars right out of the cage.

Whisper Creek rises again! Maggie McGinnis just keeps getting better and this latest novel is the best one yet! I lovelovelove the chemistry between the two characters - and I'm gonna be drinking some of that Whiskey creek water soon!
I was never a cowboy or ranch romance girl - i know that's gonna stick in some readers' craws, but I said I WASN"T for a reason. But then I started reading Maggie's books and I AM A CONVERT. GImme a cowboy, a ranch hand, or a barristo or anyone who works on or near WHISKEY CREEK!!! 5 well deserved stars and thank you to Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion.

Taking a Chance is the sixth romance in the Whisper Creek series by Maggie McGinnis but it can be read as a stand alone. It was a sweet funny romance that kept me involved with the story. I enjoy reading Maggie's books and this is another really good one.

Maggie McGinnis' book Taking a Chance was adorable. I loved reading about the nursing home in Whisper Creek.

I have never read a book by Mrs. McGinnis but I really enjoyed this one. Maggie and Jasper were complete opposites but so much fun to read about. I loved their story and all of Jaspers antics and seeing how Maggie would deal with them. I think she really thought he was crazy until she saw him with his father.

Jaspers father is a resident at the nursing home that Maggie has been sent from corporate to be the direct of. Jasper expects the new director to be old and not the very attractive Maggie. They kind of get off on the wrong foot when Jasper walk into her office while she is changing. She also finds out he is behind all kinds of weird activities for the residents of the nursing home. He also tries to help Maggie with her new position.

I loved this book and laughed out loud several times. This is a dual POV, with all the feels.

This was a great book. I don't know if it will be a re-read for me but it held my interest until the end.
The characters had depth, were witty and charming. I had a smile on my face for almost the entire read!
