Emma and Jasper meet when she is sent to Whisper Creek as the new temporary nursing home director where his father is a resident. Jasper is known for his unorthodox games and his genuine interest in all the patients at the home. Jasper goes there every morning to have breakfast with his father, comes back when he can for lunch and sometimes joins him for dinner.

Emma is from Florida and the mountains and weather in Montana is foreign to her. She is a stickler for rules and does not take kindly to the state of the office she is left with. She quickly learns that she needs to be more hands-on and less in her office. She thinks this job is the step she needs to obtain her goal of a promotion within her company. She realizes that the staff doesn't trust her at first and finds Jasper to be aloof at the beginning. She also fights her attraction and you wouldn't know either one of them is in their mid-30's by their actions.

Jasper has baggage a mile wide and just as long. He thinks he needs to pay penance for what happened to his wife in the past. His friends and father all try to get him to see that he should be living life and not feeling constant guilt. He used to be a high-powered lawyer and now owns and runs his own coffee shop. He finds his life to be stable and is comfortable with it. Emma's presence threatens that stability and he doesn't always react well.

Emma had her own secrets and baggage and both had similar heartache in their past. Emma found herself falling for Jasper, even though she knew better. When things seem to be on an even keel finally, Jasper has second thoughts and Emma is left trying to move on. She learns part of Jasper's past and tries to understand where he is coming from. I liked how Emma picked herself up and moved forward. She still kept moving forward with her goals. When something unexpected happens, Emma finds herself reeling yet again. She had valid reasons for her reaction and I understood it. Jasper needed to man up and not let his past define him anymore. You will have to read the book to find out what transpires between these two. It was a quick, easy read.

BOOK BLURB

A fun-loving troublemaker gives a workaholic Southern gal a real taste of Montana magic at the one and only Whisper Creek Ranch.

A rising star in the corporate world, Emma Winthrop enjoys the view from her cubicle in sunny Florida. But when she’s dispatched to a nursing home in Whisper Creek for three months of field experience, she discovers a slice of heaven made of mountains and mayhem—mostly in the form of rugged, drop-dead gorgeous Jasper Stone, who grinds his specialty beans at the town’s best coffee shop in between organizing dodge-ball games and wheelchair races in Emma’s hallways.

When Jasper walks in on this beautiful angel in silky purple underwear trying to rinse out her blouse, it’s a breathtaking view—even for a Montana native. Wreaking havoc here at Shady Acres keeps his dad in good spirits, but getting under Emma’s skin is proving to be even more fun. Jasper knows that he’s falling faster than a man with his past has any right to, but his body and his heart have a mind of their own. And Emma appears to be claiming both.

My Thoughts

This is a true opposites-attract, second-chance-at-love contemporary romance set in a beautiful location filled with unique characters and set at an easy reading pace that keeps one pretty much glued to the pages from beginning to end.

While being the 6th book in the series this time the town of Carefree Montana not the Whisper Creek guest ranch takes center stage, just 1 step behind the Shady Acres retirement home which gets the top billing honor.

From the irrepressible Archie to the less-than-perfect Cook Horace both the residents and staff will steal the readers heart from page one.

Emma and Jasper are just the perfect pair to carry on the tradition of those who have no intention of making Carefree their future home. A tradition that this time did not need a little help from the magical properties of the drinking water at the Whisper Creek ranch like the 5 couples before them.

Jasper was just the sweetest and most endearing man (and son! and coffee maker!) ever. I loved this story. His relationship with Emma and her development professionally and personally was great fun to read. Loved it!

"Come to Whisper Creek. Drink the water & you'll never want to leave."

You can run. You can hide. You'll never get away from the feelings that Whisper Creek invokes. Emma was pulled from headquarters to fill in when a nursing home administrator needs surgery. Emma is planning on going completely by the book & staying out of trouble until she's back in Florida. Then she meets Jasper & the staff & residents at Shady Acres. As they work their magic, she's falling in love with the mountains. She's realizing that no matter what her parents say, she's worthy of love & appreciation.

Jasper has his own share of heartbreak. He's just decided to live like today is all that matters. Everyone deserves to have fun. He draws the line at fun though. No love or happy ever after. He doesn't deserve that. He's taking care of his dad & running his coffee shop. That's it.

Taking a Chance is a story about just what the title says, taking a chance on love. Emma & Jasper both feel they don't deserve a chance at love. The mistakes they've made in the past have made sure of that. The characters are realistic & relatable. The residents of the nursing home add an increased depth & dimension to the story. The returning characters from Whisper Creek add continuity but I feel this book can be read as a stand alone. A truly wonderful romance with some heartbreaking moments, I'd recommend this book to everyone!

Jasper and his yummy coffee has been a regular feature in the previous Whisper Creek Novels and finally reading his story was a delight.
The meeting between Jasper and Emma, the temporary director at the nursing home, Shady Acres, was perfect. It was funny and hot. I enjoyed the way their relationship developed. The residents of Shady Acres just steal your heart.
Taking a Chance is definitely one of my favorite Whisper Creek novels. It was a fun read with a touch of sadness that made it that much more real and heartwarming.

I absolutely loved this book. It is a rt of fluffy romance but it has SO much to offer. What a special treat to get characters with substance and a small town feel. I think the best parts were the small town people and their all up in everyone else business but not in a bad way.

The two main characters are perfect. What I like is that Jasper is at point where he realized that there is a lot to life besides being a lawyer. SO sad what took him so long to get to the point
SO worth the read

Who in the world besides Maggie McGinnis could make a nursing home fun and funny? No one! That’s my opinion. Emma did not want to go to Montana. She didn’t want to leave the sunny shores of Florida, but mostly she didn’t want to abandon her chance to rise higher in the corporate world. She wasn’t even prepared for the “mountain” she had to drive up to get to her job. Psst…it’s a hill! Mostly, she wasn’t prepared for the sweet as honey and hot as hell Jasper. And she wasn’t prepared for Whisper Creek.

Poor Jasper. He had no idea how his first sight of a beautiful, half-naked woman would implant on his brain and never go away. Not just any half-naked woman…this woman. He was lost from day one but didn’t admit it to himself for a while.

They both have some serious sadness in their pasts, making it difficult for either to grab onto, hold onto and never let go of their incredible chemistry, chemistry that everyone could see. Of course, the matchmakers at Whisper Creek Ranch get involved when Emma moves to the ranch after one afternoon and one evening being overwhelmed by the beauty of the ranch and the wonderful people.

This book is satisfying on ever level. Maggie McGinnis is a major talent in the romance genre and she never disappoints. Pick up your copy and…

Enjoy!

Another great read in this series! I love how these girls (and guys) find their way to this wonderful town. Their situations are so relatable and understandable. It is easy to get lost in the dreamy world of a romantic story, I am so happy to see the realistic side come through as well.
I was so sucked into the writing and story I stayed up and finished in 1 day.
High recommendations for books by Maggie McGinnis.

Likable characters! It made me want to read the earlier books in the series.

've found a new author to follow!

I've never read any Maggie McGinnis books before. I read the description of the book and it sounded interesting to me, so I requested it from Net Galley. You never know what you're going to get when the genre is contemporary romance. It encompasses such a broad spectrum os possibilities. I was very pleased with this one.

The setting is perfect, a small town in the foothills of the Rockies. Definitely put the protagonist, Emma, in a place completely out of her element. The dialog between her and Jasper is witty and humorous.

The sexual tension is just right throughout the whole book. The sex is not graphic.

I love Jasper's father and Bette. Both play minor parts in the story, but I love them.

I liked this books so well that I have purshased the first two books in the series and have already started reading them. (Ahead of the free books I have in my to be read pile that I have committed to reading and reviewing.) Yeah, I liked this book that much....

I just loved this book. The banter between Emma and Jasper as they get to know each other was just delightful. The feature that is so appealing about this and other Whisper Creek Novels is that the characters are so likeable and good natured. I like to think they would be my friends. I also appreciated that although the subject matter was adult, I didn't have to skip through excessive graphic sex. It wasn't allowed to detract from the sweetness of the love story. Add 'Taking A Chance' to your Carefree, MT visits, you'll love it!

OMG!! I love Whisper Creek and all its residents! Jasper and Emma's story did not disappoint and is so much FUN! I was LOLing from the first line. Jasper and Emma's story is heartfelt with a little touch of sadness at times BUT mostly fun! Emma is a strong woman that just needs someone to believe in her and she finds that someone in Jasper. A great romance not to be missed!!

I did not realize this was part of a much longer series. I will certainly go back and read the others after reading this wonderful story set in the beautiful state of Montana. It read fine as a stand alone but I think reading the others would definitely add to it.
Emma and Jasper are just perfect for each other! I really love them together!
Emma had no intentions of staying in Montana when she takes the temporary job there. She likes living in Florida.
She certainly did not plan on meeting Jasper while she was there. He was her game changer. He is so charming and fun.
Very nicely written story that flows so well and has so much heart. I looked forward to turning each and every page.

Story about a young woman from Florida who goes to Montana to sub for the director of a nursing home. Here she meets Jasper, a coffee shop owner, and his dad lives at said nursing home. Despite tragedies that neither one can forget, the chemistry between them develops into something more. Sweet, clean contemporary romance!

Taking a Chance, is a feel good romance novel. In the beginning, Jasper leaves me feeling shameful. The way that he volunteers and visits his father in the nursing home is awesome. Then later on in the book he shows us just how human he is by the way that he handles things with Emma. It's kinda a stretch to call this book part of the Whisper Creek series, but it was fun to catch up with some of the past characters and new.

A beautiful, feel good romance about an over-achieving, brilliant woman who has yet to measure up to her parents' unreachable expectations. He had it all, but didn’t realize it until it was too late. They both find themselves in Montana in the shadow of majestic mountains and a now infamous ranch of studly men.

This is my 4 or 5th read by Ms. McGinnis and I’ve yet to be disappointed.

I received an ARC of this book, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When Emma Winthrop is sent to Whisper Creek to take over momentarily at Shady Acres nursing home she is certain she has been sent to a whole other world, it's peaceful, charming, and so unlike the bustling city life she is use to. Then she meets a certain sexy barista that instantly starts to stir up the butterflies in her stomach, he is charming, funny... and very easy on the eyes. But getting involved with him seems silly since her stay in town is temporary...

The moment Jasper Stone's eyes land on the beauty sent to run Shady Acres he can't help but fall a little for her, she is unlike any other woman he has ever met, and the sparks swirling around between them tells him there is something there worth exploring. But her stay in Whisper Creek is short term, so he must decide if that "something" between them is worth the risk to his heart...

Taking A Chance is a touching, light-hearted, literary treasure! It has been a while since my last visit to the Whisper Creek series, but mere minutes into this read I found myself making myself right at home all over again, oh how I missed these wonderful characters! I thoroughly enjoyed this new addition the series, it warmed my heart, made me laugh, and left me blushing more than a few times! The story line was engaging and held my interest throughout, and the characters were perfectly crafted... you really can't go wrong with this one, it is one of my absolute favorites from Ms. McGinnis to date! Highly recommend this one, these small town folks are sure to charm their way into your heart!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
