Bright colours, interesting facts, famous people and wonderful places. This is a great little introduction to cities around America, and to the idea of travel. It is easy to read and I can imagine it being very popular. I'd love to see more books that are similar to this one - in both design and content.

Although I received an electronic advanced reader copy of 50 Cities of the U.S.A.: Explore America's Cities With Fifty Fact-Filled Maps by Gabrielle Balkan, this is one of those books which would be better pursued in hard cover.

Utilizing an A to Z format, the 112 colorfully annotated pages, illustrated by Sol Linero, highlights each of 50 cities with trivia focusing on famous people, inventions, foods, and historical/cultural tourist destinations, to introduce and perhaps whet ones appetite to visit these locales. Each city spans two pages chock full of vibrant details or info graphics laid over a map. This is a perfect introduction which parents can share with their children prior to a trip or which can assist families in reliving their vacation at a later date. There is a follow up Trivia Section at the end of the book to test ones knowledge of famous sites throughout the country. Selected cities include Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Detroit, Honolulu, Los Vegas, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. as well as numerous other venues.

While I thank Netgalley and the Quarto Publishing Group for providing this partial ARC for a book which appeals to people of all ages (in exchange for an honest review), I was disappointed that my hometown of Buffalo, New York didn't make the cut. Four stars.

While I was very much so looking forward to reading and reviewing this book, it unfortunately was archived by the publisher before I was able to read it.

50 Cities of the U.S.A. by Gabrielle Balkan is an informative book about famous people and places in some of the United States' best known cities. The book contains beautiful illustrations and the trivia.  Each city gets a two-page spread, and the author and illustrator Sol Linero do a great job in packing the two pages with as much information as possible.

This is a book that will inspire great thinking about travel, the United States and different events, structures, and people. The book has so much to offer and sets it up in a fun, easy to read format. Children could look through the book to find just facts about buildings in the city or people. I find this to be such an excellent book because it provides in depth information for children who already have a geographic passion, but will also inspire new thinking for children who have yet to discover geography.

I recommend this book for children who enjoy learning about the U.S. and geography.

I received an ARC of 50 Cities of the U.S.A from NetGalley via Quarto Publishing Group and Wide Eyed Editions.

Unless 75% of my galley is missing, there is no way there are 50 cities in this book. Ignoring that fact, the I really enjoyed how the book was laid out. The beginning tells a little bit about the cities, and how to use the book, then each city is given a 2 page spread of info-graphics laid over a map. They did not choose the capital city of each state, but what appears to be the largest city. For example Chicago, IL. It’s well done, factual and useful. Fix the title, or include more cities.

50 Cities of the U.S.A. by Gabrielle Balkan is a book I couldn't wait to get in my classroom. As soon as I read it, I wanted to add it to our room. I hope Balkan does more like this!

Netgalley ARC Review -- 50 Cities of the U.S.A. would be a wonderful addition to your library collection. The bright illustrations draw in the reader, provide unique facts, highlight interesting people from each city, and set up a timeline for a great day spent in each city. Last but not least, there is a look and find or memory game at the end of the book to bring you back into the book after it is finished.

50 Cities of the U.S.A. is a great book for introducing your kids to other places in the United States. It is a really cool book that kids ages 7-11 would likely enjoy. My little geography buff absolutely loved seeing all of the facts about these different cities, and seeing just how different cities within the same country, and some even within the same state, can be vastly different. We talked about the places we have already been, and the places we would love to go visit. I recommend this book for older elementary aged kids.
