I have been putting off reviewing this book for a long while, sigh its because I love Karen Rose's books and she's my favourite author to read for romantic suspense/mysteries.
This wasn't a bad book, it wasn't Karen Rose's best but it wasn't bad. The blame of which goes go to Adam, he really made me frustrated the entire book. I already didn't like him before this book but wanted to read because of Meredith but his treatment of her didn't endear him to me either.
Perhaps I'll reread it again a years down the line and it would be okay....
I have read the book that came after it and I loved them so I guess its a one off...

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this book. This is already the 4th book in the Cincinatti series, I've read each and every one of Karen's books, and once again she did not disappoint! Can't wait to start book number 5!!

Captivatingly addictive with a shocking outcome! From the very start of this book I was drawn into the mystery of who was secretly pulling the strings of all of the goings ons around the area, and why. Here and there it would lead us to suspect one person, then a little later we might think it's someone else. A very thrilling read with in depth characters, a well developed plot and an eery uneasiness as we came into contact with yet another person around each corner that could be involved in the mystery. I really enjoyed it!

Homicide detective Adam Kimble might have distanced himself from the woman he dearly wants in his life, but he's only doing so until he gets stable and healthy enough to be the man he thinks she deserves to have in her life. He's holding on by a thread as he tries to be patient until enough time has passed, but when he hears that she's at the scene of major danger, he doesn't hesitate to run to her side!

Psychologist Meredith Fallon doesn't understand why Adam has pushed her away for the last several months, but she's thrilled to have him arrive and try to pinpoint what in the world just happened right in front of her. She counsels traumatized and at risk youth, and for some reason someone seems to be targeting her ... and maybe even some of her young clients!

As one of my favourite authors, this book did not disappoint in anyway. I have been a fan of Karen Rose for a number of years and I love that her writing just get better and better with time. The relationships portrayed by the characters can be a little far fetched, but that is the joy of fiction, it is pure escapism.

Edge of darkness by karen rose.
Homicide detective Adam Kimble is no stranger to battling demons. But Meredith Fallon is a different kind of weakness: one that could actually be good for him, if only he would let himself depend on her. Meredith has loved Adam for a year, and seeing how hard he's worked to deal with his PTSD makes her feelings only stronger, but she respects his needs. Her work keeps her busy anyway: she counsels sexually abused women like Mallory Martin to help them reintegrate into the world.
A fantastic read. Loved the characters and the story. 5*.

Thank you to Headline for sending me a finished copy of Edge of Darkness by one of my auto-buy authors. I always know Karen Rose will deliver a fast-paced romantic suspense book that I’ll eagerly read as quickly as possible. This is the twentieth book in the overall series and the fourth in the Cincinnati series, and I can’t imagine getting tired of them. They follow the same formula – a crime threatens one of the characters and pushes them together with their love interest – but that’s why I read them. I want the comfort of a tried-and-true formula that promises a happy ending.

This book focuses on child psychologist Meredith Fallon and detective Adam Kimble who we’ve met in prior books, and who are forced together when Meredith is targeted by an unknown gunman. What I particularly appreciated about their story was the exploration of mental health issues. Karen Rose presents depression, addiction, and PTSD in a relatable way that I could identify with. I have depression so Meredith particularly resonated with me, and I appreciated her careful explanations about symptoms and treatment methods. It wasn’t swept under the carpet or ‘cured’ when she fell in love.

The crime aspect was just the right level of gruesome and it kept me guessing for quite a while. I enjoy crime books and this certainly didn’t disappoint. Another thing I love about these books is the way past characters are incorporated and we learn a little more about what they’ve been doing since we last saw them. We meet a couple of characters from the Chicago series and from the Daniel Vartanian trilogy and I hope Karen Rose keeps allowing the reader a glimpse into the characters’ lives. I’m already looking forward to the next book but I really need it to be about the very sweet Diesel and Dani.

I am a massive Karen Rose fan and have read all her other books at least once. This is just as good as all the previous. This is book four in Cincinnati series and can be read on its own or as part of the series.
Detective Adam Kimble is suffering from PTSD but still trying to work and has to protect the woman he is in love with. Meredith Fallon has been in love with Adam for a while but is being patient. Meredith works with women who have been abused and is currently working with Mallory Martin who was held captive. Someone has made an attempt on Meredith’s life and now she needs the protection.
I love all the characters in this series who are all complicated in their own way.
The story was great and you didn’t have a clue where it was going, every time you thought you had it figured something changes.
I can’t read for the next novel!
Thanks to NetGalley, Headline and Karen Rose for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I couldn't get into this book, but not because it was bad, or boring, I think it was just because I hadn't read the first three books in the series. I tried to read them first but none of them were in the local library or available on Overdrive, Cloud Library or Libby. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it if I had read the full series.

Firs time I have read anything by the author and it did not disappoint,a brilliant and tense opening and then a great read throughoutI....I liked the characters although maybe focused on them just a bit too much on occasions?.......a difficult yet very current subject to write about which was handled well, lota of twists and turns in the book which I enjoyed,I would defintely read other books by the author amd found it a satisfying and enjoyabke read

this is the first book i’ve read book this author. i usually read police procedural or thrillers set in england so this book was a change for me it being set in america.

the book started well with an intense standoff with a suicide bomber. however, for me there were too many characters to follow and i ended confused. the on/off relationship between the characters adam and meredith was off putting and abit too slushy for my liking and i feel distracted too much from the main storyline.

many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

4 and a half
This carries on the segment that this author has involved her readers in set in and around Cincinnati and honestly I somehow suspect that several of these characters will be revisited no matter what the synopsis says. Why do I feel this? Well honestly there are just so many characters involved here that the author would be crazy not to go back at some point and flesh them out more. That's also unfortunately why I knocked a half mark off as because it's such an ensemble piece I did initially find myself trying to remember who had done what before and in which book so it kind of took me out the story at times.
That all being said what about the story? Well it was lovely to see the old gang rally round with their protective and so very often teasing attitudes. As a fan of this series I knew that Adam struggled with events that were truly harrowing but those around him don't truly realise just how low he's driven himself. To be blunt he's a recovering drunk in love with a woman that he feels he doesn't deserve but Meredith doesn't quite fit on the pedestal that Adam has placed her on .
Everything comes crashing to a head when it appears there's a target painted on Merediths back. It all ties in with the young woman that Meredith and her friends are trying to introduce back into normal life after abysmal abuse but the trouble is there are other victims still out there with a killer determined to silence all those loose ends !
Essentially this is the tale of two damaged people connecting at what is a violent and frightening time in their lives . The author pulls her readers in with scenes from the point of view of her villain which really ramps up the intensity of the plot . It's positively frightening that such evil perpetrators can pose as essentially normal everyday folks but I get that surely that's why psychopaths can and do live undetected amongst us . I loved following the trail laid down in order to uncover just who the bad guy was but most of all I really enjoyed catching up with characters that have drawn me in previously and for this reader that meant quality time with Deacon ! However it's not as dark as some previous stories and the author found time for lighter moments as her cast teased, cajoled and knitted !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Karen Rose stays true to her tried and tested formula with this latest offering. I enjoy how she manages to combine several different storylines and characters all with in a suspenseful plot with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. She has just the right mix of poignancy and amusement to keep the dark subject matter of this book from getting too heavy. Her characters are so vivid you are made to feel as though you’re in the same room with them and drawn into their world. I can’t wait for her next book!

Another instalment in the Cincinnati series from Karen Rose, and I was not disappointed. Thank you Karen Rose!

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book....

this has to be the best book that karen rose has written, its full of action and mystery with quite a few red herrings... there is none stop action from the get go and it just doesnt stop, every page is a page turner that keeps you going and wondering who it could be and right to the end even when you find out who it is there is action that you just would not or could not believe

you are just left wondering how its all going to work out, will everyone survive in person. obviously this book is dealing with some unpleasant issues which makes it hard to read and a few times i had tears in my eyes...but that is down to how the author writes, you are right there in the action feeling all the emotions

one of karen rose best books to date, you have to read it...and the other books in this collection

Edge Of Darkness by Karen Rose, Book 4 in the Cinncinati series... and what a belter it is!
Edge of Darkness is layered and nuanced, alive with intriguing sub plots, full of appealing characters, dark with vile villains .... and of course shrouded in ROMANCE! Karen Rose has a very dark mind, but she also has a vert romantic one and when the two come together we get a fantastic story like Edge of Darkness ... I loved it!
Alongside the blossoming love affair between Adam Kimble and Meredith Fallon, Rose introduces us to the darker side of life. Whilst Adam Kimble fights his own demons, someone, it appears is targetting Meredith and he just can't stand that. So, he places himself on the line to protect her and soon discovers that things are darker than he ever imagined they could be. Demons from his past rear their ugly heads, causing him to doubt those he has always trusted. and his resolve is pushed to the limit.
Edge of Darkness is a fast paced, edge of the seat, adrenaline packed read. It is also a very human read. A read that takes us to the darkest of places but also to the most hopeful of places. It shows us human nature at its worst ... and at its best.
I loved it. I loved the complexities of the characters and the way Rose paints each one so vividly. I loved the grittiness of the story line and I loved the underlying humanity. An easy five stars from me.

Another entertaining read, I really enjoyed this and will always be looking forward to the next one. A nice blend of emotional storytelling with some interesting and gritty crime based drama.
I like the interwoven characters and trying to spot where the next romantic entanglement will occur. Very easy to read and perfect for sheer escapism.

Edge of Darkness is the fourth book in the Cincinnati series and the twentieth book in Karen Rose Romance Suspense series. This book is published in Hardback in the UK on the 2nd November 2017 and out in paperback 8th Feb 2018.

This book main focus is Dr Meredith Fallows and Detective Adam Kimble, Adam has been dealing with PTSD for the last year due to witnessing a horrendous crime against a child. Now Adam has to solve why some would want to blow up the woman that he has secretly been in love with for the past year Meredith Fallows. Meredith now has to find out why someone would want her dead, without breaking her patients confidentiality. When Adam delves more into to the case, things aren't as they seem and things that shouldn't connect.

One of the reason that I love Karen Rose book are her characters, they have there are flawed but they try their best with the life they have. It makes the character more real to me and I end up getting more invested.

One of my favourite character is Diesel, he might not look like a softy but he really is with a wicked sense of humour. I can’t wait for him to get his own book. Meredith and Adam are an amazing couple but unfortunately they weren't my favourite pairing is this book, that award goes to Diesel and Meredith Grandfather. The banter between the two of them really made me smile, and both just show do not judge a book on it cover.

I find Karen Roses writing styles one of the easiest for me to read, the book flows in my head like a conversation that I don’t want to end.

This story follows on from the last book Ever Dark Corner, and certain things that where left open in the last book get wrapped up in this. To me this make the stories more realistic as crimes in life doesn’t always end up wrapped up tidy little bow.

Like other Karen Rose book, this book is a crime fighting, emotional rollercoaster with heart pounding romance.

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline for giving me an advance copy to read and review, I will still be buying myself a copy to go on my Karen Rose shelf.

I give this book 5 out of 5

I love when miss Rose brings a new book out as I am never disappointed and love everyone of her books. It’s sad to say this is the last in the Cincinnati series but it went out on a high as another brilliant book. I just love the way we have got to know the characters and how they interact with each other makes it so much more enjoyable to read. I love in hope of maybe getting another book in this series so will have to wait and see!
