I always await the next book from Karen Rose with a sense of anticipation, knowing that I am rarely disappointed. Her novels are never short and this gives the reader the opportunity to become immersed, not just within the story but also to get to know the characters that will keep you engaged through to the final pages. Edge of Darkness is no exception and the fact that the author does not hold back in her description of events as they unfold adds a level of realism that maintains my interest throughout the book.

The Cincinnati series by Karen Rose has probably been one of my favourites. This fourth and final book sees the turn of Meredith and Adam who have already had a brief dalliance, yet been separated over the past year while Adam conquers his demons.
During an afternoon out with Mallory, Meredith finds herself staring down the barrel of a gun when a young man appears in the cafe, visibly upset and shaking, there is immediate panic while she tries to talk him out of shooting her, yet when she manages to persuade him to hand over the gun, the window suddenly explodes, Mallory pushes her to the ground, then there is another shot and all hell breaks loose.
This is only the beginning of the week from hell, yet among the ensuing chaos, good things happen, and we are met with all the characters we've come to know and love throughout the previous books.
This is absolutely the perfect end to finish the series on, even though I'm disappointed that we have reached the end. I highly recommend this book, along with the rest of the series.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel. I have read all of Rose's novels and I particulalrly like the strong and complex characters that she creates.
This particular book brought a lot of our favourite characters together when a killer appears to target Meredith Fallon.
I did enjoy this book and it came as quite a shock to discover excaltly who is involved in the large scale abuse of vulnerable women. I would have liked more focus on the crimes and the criminal investigation and slightly less focus on Meredith's relationship with Adam but overall yet another great page turner from Karen Rose.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have read all Karen Rose books and this was the 4th in the series and must confess not the best. Might need a break from this author for a bit.

The 4th book in the Cincinnati series focuses on Detective Adam Kimble and Dr Meredith Fallon who have featured throughout the series. Adam is a troubled man with secrets and unusually for Ms Rose, he and Meredith are already acquainted having begun a relationship in an earlier book which seemed to fizzle out. In fact this was crucial to this story as both Adam and Meredith's secrets and demons are laid bare as their relationship re-ignites.
The fast paced action begins almost immediately with what seems like the abduction and torture of a young man and an attempt to kill Meredith. For readers of the series the story weaves strands of earlier books into it answering some unresolved questions from the series.
If you haven't read the previous Cincinnati novels you will struggle to follow certain strands of the plot so I would advise reading from beginning - which is no hardship as Ms Rose is an excellent story teller!
Another fantastic and suspenseful tale which I read in a couple of days - thanks to Netgalley for the advance review copy.

Having read the three previous books to this series, it was great to be reacquainted with characters from those books. I just love the continued interaction between them all and the closeness they all have with majority of the characters.

I was super excited and honoured to be able to read an advance copy of this book, as I couldn't wait to read Adam and Meredith story. And boy was it a fantastic read, a real page turner and a rollercoaster of a ride. It was gripping from the get go and I literally couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was pretty much sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what would happen next, the action just didn't stop.

As always with Karen Rose books, the storyplot and all the characters were amazingly well written,  she truly does know how to keep her readers gripped and left wanting more. It's also so easy to fall in love with a lot of the characters as they feel so real and believable.

I am a huge massive fan of Karen's books, if you love crime thrillers with a bit of romance thrown in then you really should give her books ago.

On a final note, I'm really hoping that there will be a book 5 to this series and that it'll be centred around the two characters Dani and Diesel (whom are mentioned in this book) as I reckon they both deserve a book of their own as I'd love to read their story. Fingers crossed.

I had never read Karen Rose, but having heard so much about her books, I thought I would try this. It turns out this might not have been the best decision as it is the 4th in the Cincinnati series, with characters from other books in the series turning up here. It meant that at times I felt a little at a loss, not having read others in the series. Nevertheless, I still managed to enjoy reading this thriller. Adam Kimble is a homicide detective who had a short lived relationship in the past with Meredith Fallon, a child psychologist. Meredith has never forgotten him and doesn't understand why he has gone to such lengths to avoid her. However, Adam is an emotionally damaged man, suffering from PTSD, and struggling to recover. He is about to discover just what Meredith means to him.

Meredith works with sexually abused children, something she feels a complete commitment to. She has been doing some intensive counselling work with a traumatised Mallory Martin. They are out celebrating their successes, when a gunman fails to carry out a mission he is being forced into. Having failed to shoot Meredith, the gunman is then shot and Meredith barely makes it out alive. Why would anyone want to kill Meredith? In a complex investigation, more deaths take place as it appears that a ruthless killer does not want Meredith to do the kind of work that she does. Adam finds that he will do anything to protect Meredith. Their relationship develops as Meredith finds out exactly what is troubling Adam. She then in turn tells him about the traumas in her own life. It soon becomes clear that the murderer is rather closer to home than Adam and Meredith might imagine.

This is a fast paced read focusing on two damaged people who manage to connect with each other emotionally. Whilst this might not have been the best Karen Rose book to read, I am glad that I did read it. It has two central strands running through it, that of the hunt for the killer, and that of the slowly evolving relationship between the two protagonists. A gripping read that I found entertaining and absorbing. Many thanks to Headline for an ARC.

And she does it again........I have never read a bad book this lady has written. I have now cried reading her last 2 books. This time it's the culmination of the Cincinnati series and we finally get to the story of Meredith and Adam.

As ever the story is well written, the plot thick with tension and the characters all intertwine exquisitely, but please stop making me cry!!

Wonderful book, highly recommended and published just in time to snuggle in pj's on the sofa for those dark wintry nights and just immerse yourself in the story!

Massive Karen Rose fan. This is another HIT! This lady can't go wrong with her books for me. This one focuses on Meredith Fallon and Adam Kimble. Meredith helps young girls who have been sexually abused, but someone doesn't seem to want her meddling and targets her....... Adam is such a good character he is fighting through some dark things, it's such a good story it seriously keeps you guessing and guessing. I thought I had it all sussed but I was only half way there! I'm not giving anything away but again this left me wanting more, the characters in Karen Rose's books become friends and family. I dreamt about the book last night! She can get into your head like no other author! Thanks so much for the advance copy Netgalley.

29/08/17 Book Review Update

It is now 4:18am and i have just finished this book. I simply couldn't put it down until i finished. There was so much going on and the sneaky twists kept me so engrossed i didn't even realise the time and my alarm clock is set for 4:45am!!
I haven't read a book that has kept me this enthralled for a while now. Really really brilliant book. It has a bit of everything in it, murder, snipers, FBI, cops, drugs, romance, terror, love, fear, violence, kindness, betrayal, redemption and even some knitting :-)
The Cincinnati series has been brilliant start to finish. You don't have to read the other books in the series as this book does give you a bit of a back stories from the previous books that are relevant to the characters but i would defiantly recommend starting with book one - Closer Than You Think and the the other two books before this one as a lot of the characters cross over to the other books and with them their own traumas from the earlier books.
This book relates back to a previous case Adam Kimble had been working on involving a ring criminals abducting and forcing teens for the Internet sex trade.
And this time its personal, some one is out there trying to cut off any loose ends before they get turned in by the girls that had got away. Homicide detective Adam Kimble and Meredith Fallon, a child therapist are believed to be the targets and the book starts straight in with a bang.
A young man points a gun at Meredith in a full restaurant whilst wearing a bomb, from there on in it is non stop action right through to the bitter end. The story weaves lots of characters and plots flawlessly.
This book is a dark, gritty crime drama, with a complex plot, and super edgy suspense. It is also features deep and intense interpersonal relationships, and red-hot romance. The blooming romance between Adam and Meredith is the kind of romance every woman wants.
Move over Mr Darcy, i think you may have been replaced with Adam Kimble and Deacon Novak!!
Read this book, you will not regret it and if you haven't read any of Karen Rose's other books i can almost guarantee you will want to!
The Will Trent and Grant County books are by far my ultimate favourites with these Cincinnati books a very close second!
Defiantly a 5 star book, congratulations Karen on another wonderful book.
This book will be released in the UK on 2nd of November and can be pre ordered from

I have read all of Karen's books and I must say I love how they all interconnect together regarding characters.

I have been looking forward to Meredith and Adams story for a while, and I can honestly say it was amazing. It kept me guessing on the Gillian up until the last few chapters.

I am so glad that Meredith has been portrayed as a fighter, as all the women in Karen's books are.
Meredith showed such courage and confidence with everything she was up against.

Adam was a tough character to read about, with everything he had gone through over the year, what with watching a murder and then to have it thrown back to his face again just as he was gaining the confidence to put it behind him, maybe not forget but just to deal with and push forward.

I loved the character Linnie, she was broken on so many levels but was determined to fight back for her friend.

This book showed a different side to Diesel too, it showed him as a soft hearted, kind and caring gentle giant. Not that other books have shown otherwise but this was a new side.

I literally cannot wait for Karen's next book, I'm hoping for Dani and Diesel or Ford and Taylor!

Keep up the fantastic work Karen, you have thousands and thousands of fans all over the world eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

The very first thing I want to point out about this book is that it is being marketed as the final book in the Cincinnati series. However, having spoken to Karen Rose on Twitter I can confirm that this is not the case and there will be more! :)

So, to get on with the review. There is a reason that Karen Rose remains one of my all time favourite authors and books like Edge of Darkness really serve to highlight those reasons. Part of the Cincinnati series, Edge of Darkness features some of our favourite characters from past books, kooky siblings Dani and Deacon, Faith, the O'Bannion brothers etc. And this one is focused on Meredith and Adam. Meredith Fallon is a child psychologist who we met briefly in an earlier novel and after a one time affair with detective Adam Kimble she has been pining after him but unsure why he is pulling away and going out of his way to avoid her. But Adam has his reasons and demons of his own to deal with. That is until it all comes to a head when Meredith becomes the victim of a terrible crime, someone tried to shoot her and nobody knows why.

The investigation that follows is as tense and unpredictable as Karen's books always are. I think the beauty of her novels is that she doesn't even really offer any red herrings so you are literally left guessing the whole way through. I like that a lot. I've heard criticism before about the love stories that run alongside but I not only thoroughly enjoy them, I respect Karen's ability to mix them in, to merge two genres in one Romantic Suspense is what Karen has truly become the mistress of.

I think the love stories are important as well because they enable the series to run parallel with the different couples, this one has a focus on Meredith and Adam and previous ones have focused on other couples in their social group. I love that entanglement and follow on. We, as readers get to find out what happened after the happy ending and who doesn't truly want to know that?

For fans of crime, thrillers and particularly for the genre Romantic Suspense, this is a fast paced, perfectly flowing, incredibly excellent novel, one of this author's best yet!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Headline for an advance copy of Edge of Darkness, the fourth novel in the Cincinnati series.

Meredith Fallon is celebrating the progress Mallory Martin, a young victim of abuse whom she has been counselling, has made in her recovery by taking her for lunch. They have hardly sat down when a reluctant gunman approaches them and tells them to run. In the ensuing standoff the gunman is shot in the head and dies and Meredith barely escapes a second bullet. Shaken she calls detective Adam Kimball, a man she has unrequitedly loved for over a year while he has been avoiding her as he has his own troubles to resolve. The hunt for the killer puts them and their friends in danger.

I thoroughly enjoyed Edge of Darkness as it is a compulsive read. With its strong plot and emphasis on feelings rather than steamy sex Ms Rose has hit her stride again after the rather lacklustre Monster in the Closet. The plot is exciting with a high body count and the protagonists dodging death on several occasions. It may not be for everyone as it fairly graphic and there is frequent mention of past cases involving child sex abuse.

As ever with Ms Rose half of the novel is taken up with the plot but the other half revolves around a new relationship and strong arousal. I must admit that that I don't always think that she gets the balance right (I'm not too keen on too much sex) but much of Edge of Darkness revolves around Meredith being very understanding of Adam and his many problems and gradually revealing her own. Obviously it's heartwarming to see two damaged individuals forming a bond and finding true love but I wouldn't have given him house room and her continual understanding got a bit cloying - I'd have preferred if she'd let rip occasionally at his behaviour.

Edge of Darkness is a good, exciting read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

The SUPERB conclusion to this series ................

Homicide detective Adam Kimble receives a call from the woman he has loved from afar for the past 12 months , he hears screaming and gunfire ........Meredith Fallon councils sexually abused children and teenagers and has taken Mallory Martin , a severely traumatised patient ,out for the first time since her rescue , to her favourite restauant . A young man approaches their table , a gun in hand, pale faced and shaking , a bomb attached to his body ,his intent to kill clear . BUT he is under duress and when he fails to carry out his instructions he is killed by a shot from outside ...............
Adam and Meredith must overcome their demons and learn to trust their feelings for each other - and with the help of family , friends and co-workers must try to find out WHO is trying to kill not only Meredith but Adam as well and WHY .
The body count rises .... links to unsolved past cases appear .
They slowly close in on their enemy but things are not as they seem - he might be closer than they think .

This was a fast paced thriller which manages to bring together two lost souls whilst solving the mystery of WHO has been behind the sexual abuse of children/teenagers and multiple murders . .

After more than 20 books the Author still manages to capture her audience with wonderful characters and complex plots which keeps them reading until the last word on the last page .
