A book about making meals homemade and doing it in a way that is not time-consuming. I found this to be a very good book and a few of the recipes were easy to follow since I had already made them I only had to add one or make two steps. easy and you also have step-by-step instructions. A very good book.

From the Great Depression to good old-fashioned hospitality to homemade delicious recipes from scratch of family hand me downs, this book is amazing. I thought that Melissa’s sharing of what she has learned and is holding onto herself is inspiring. I found her sharing very open and I was blessed to hear her experiences. She really helps with what a home looks like if in the right balance. Encouraging that last minute guests for dinner is a welcomed experience if balance is in place in the house… YIKES! A healthy alternative, with a frugal agenda, to all the processed foods in the store is SO needed in our culture today. Way to go Melissa, A+ for this one!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

DOWN HOME, FROM SCRATCH, BACK TO BASICS and SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. so much that I joined Melissa K. Norris' newsletter and now make regular trips to her website. She gives great advice on going back to basics. This world would be a better place if we had more people like Melissa. You will find great ways to live a more simple, made from scratch life in this book. She has some great recipes and ways to save on your daily life. Get away from your 'instant' life and take more time to put your love for God back into your home.

A very back to basics book, covering simple foods, inexpensive and healthy. Each chapter as a nice little antidote on life, with a note from the scripture - I found them very thoughtful and inspiring in the sense that society needs to get back to what is really important in life.
There are chapters on bread, fermentation, herbs and making bathroom products to name just a few. No expensive ingredients, machinery or skills needed. This is a book that you can sit and browse, read and make a family meal out of it - don't worry there is time for all that - dinner may just be a little late!

Home Made is chock full of practical advise that has something for every lifestyle be it living in the country, the city, apartment living or Tiny Home living. This truly is one of the most practical, informative and delightful books I have read in a long time! The author's focus on finding balance in all areas of life (home, work, family, faith in God) is inspirational. She's a regular Mom, wife, woman trying to juggle a family, full time work while providing a home that lovingly supports herself, family and nurtures her faith in God.

My favorite things about this book?

Ms. Norris' writing style ~ it wasn't preachy ... she shared her triumphs and failures, the lessons she learned on the way and her faith in God so openly that I honestly felt like I was at my kitchen table, sipping a cup of coffee and chatting with a friend!

I love her stories and references to the Great Depression era. That generation sure knew how to improvise, make do, go without the extras and make things stretch as far as they could possibly go. Each tip from that era and the stories that go with it touched my heart and inspired me. Here's an example of one tip that I would never have dreamed of ... Starchy potato water can be substituted for milk when making bread. Who knew? You'll find so MANY more of these wonderful tips and "how to's" throughout this book!

Home Made is one of the BEST books I've read on going back to the basics and blending "the old fashioned ways" with today's life. The tips are fantastic and there is such a wealth of knowledge with in his book that I know I will be using it for a lifetime. I plan on gifting this book to some of my friends who have wanted to get more back to the basics. I know they're going to love it!

I received this book for free. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own. Thank you to Ms. Norris and as well as Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Hand Made: The Modern Woman's Guide to Made-from-Scratch Living by Melissa K. Norris is a beautiful book. The book is part memoir and part cook book. The book looks at ways to make things homemade and the wisdom of the Depression era that can help make recipes simpler.

I enjoyed this book because the author shares recipes that had been handed down to her. The recipes were easy and adaptable. There were some good tips on growing herbs and suggestions for kitchen organization. The book also contains recipes for making soap and candles.

I highly recommend this book for those that enjoy making things from scratch or want to learn to do it more often. Melissa Norris includes personal stories and some scripture in some parts of the book that I enjoyed reading as well.

I received this book from Harvest House Publishers via NetGalley.

I was disappointed with this. Mostly because it is very much for readers not in Europe and I am. There are useful sections but ity's not a book I would buy.

This book is a very comprehensive guide to maintaining a home and family. I am not big on the religious inclination of the text in between but it does indicate the author's sincere efforts to provide a good and well thought of to do book.

Hand Made is a fantastical and I do mean fantastical book. It is all about recipes from the authors grandparents recipes from World War II-but not just recipes but tips as well - and they are also valuable and informational - what is your favorite? I wonder if it is the same as the books? Well one of mine is shepherd's pie - and guess what? - yes it is the same way that you do it back then in World War II as I do it today Dash or shall I say I do it today and they did it back in World War II -you have to get this book the tips are great for instance "a biscuit had more versatility than a loaf of bread." it also gives you Herbal Remedies which my grandfather used and gave to us to use and it worked wonderfully. Also crafts gifts and decor she has so much personal information about her life and their families life and faith. I can't wait to try all the recipes. Come join me.

This book is memoir meets cookbook meets devotional bible study discipleship manual. I love how 3 of my very favorite thing are meshed together. I get to know the author in a way you never do in any other recipe book. I love how real she is and how she points all things to Jesus. Scripture references are plentiful and so helpful. This is a great book. I love the heart of the author. She is genuine and likable and God is going to use her for great things. Read this book!

Hand Made by Melissa K. Norris is a great book of useful information and recipes for pioneering/homestead lifestyle enthusiasts. Tons of depression era recipes and gift ideas, making your own soap, candles, etc. I was a bit disappointed that there were no photos in the book of any of the finished products, but still, very useful and easy to follow information.

The perfect guide to quiet and peaceful living. It’s rare that one has the time to set aside for making things and keeping house without resorting to short-cuts. But some things need to be done the long way (aka the right way) in order to work. Take sour cream for example- there’s no rushing chemistry if you want it to turn out right! This book provides some really cool from-scratch recipes for anything from basic food staples to herbal remedies. I loved learning a little bit of background on why things need to be done a certain way and the peace of mind that results. This will be a great go-to manual for all sorts of practical applications.
