In this title Sarah Forgrave, who has faced her own daunting challenges, wants to offer (religious) inspiration and comfort to others who may be suffering. She has put together a book of prayers and devotions that are personal to her and that a reader may find helpful. The title is organized by experiences beginning with the word “When,” as for example, When You Can’t Sleep. There are 44 sections in all.

Dip in in any order. Hopefully those facing issues big and/or smaller will walk away feeling better.

Many thanks to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for this title. All opinions are my own.

This is a book written using the author's ownexperiences and those of hersister, Prayers for Hope and Healing is a manual for navigating emotions you may face from initial diagnosis to death. As a long term sufferer I found many of the chapters very relevant to my situation including when you're confused by medical jargon, facing surgery and when you're tired of taking tablets. These chapters are east to find through the contents page guide. I read the book from back to front but will return to relevant chapters as needed.
It is refreshing to know that despite the loneliness of chronic illness we are never alone but supported by the One who loves us and is always there.
I highly recommend this book.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

This book, "Prayers for Hope and Healing," has been an absolute God send for me. It has been such a comfort to read this, as I face difficult days and remember there is hope and our mighty healer Jesus. He goes before us, and He is the One who gives us the strength. This book has provided much needed encouragement and comfort to help me - come before the Lord as I truly am. In the pages of this book, we are not alone. We can come together, and boldly pray these prayers. And these prayers are wonderfully honest about the difficulties and filled with much hope and truth from the Bible. This book is going to be a much needed aid to help many facing chronic illness and other hardships. I am so thankful for this opportunity to read this precious book, and glean from its wisdom.

As someone who suffers with chronic pain I really appreciated this book. so many of the different sections in it resonated with me. some of them are things I deal with daily and some are things I used to deal with. reading the sections I went through years ago was a good reminder of how much I endured but also how God and my ever supportive husband were there for me.

I really liked how short each section was but how even in just a few pages she includes a scripture, basically a devotional or advice and encouragement and then closes with a prayer. I also liked that the prayers were often longer than any other part of each section.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that has dealt with chronic pain or other medical conditions. I would also recommend it to anyone that has a close friend or family member suffering.

thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. all opinions in this review are my own.

"Prayers for Hope and Healing" is a prayer book covering 44 topics. You go to the issue(s) you're dealing with to read that entry. Most of the prayers seemed targeted at people who have to stay in the hospital, make many doctor's visits, have surgeries, and the like. For example, there's a prayer about difficulty sleeping in a hospital room and a prayer about difficulty sleeping due to medication, etc. There were also prayers about feeling bored, having too many visitors, or feeling lonely because no one is visiting. She has prayers asking God to help you continue to follow doctor's orders or continue to take pills that are hard to take or have bad side effects. Some prayers had a wider audience, like when you're angry with God for not healing you or you're losing your faith or you feel far from God.

Each prayer started with one or two Bible verses related to that topic. The author made a few "I know how it is" comments and invited the reader to trust God. Then there's a prayer for you to read. My overall impression was that the author looked to doctors for healing and to God for the hope, peace, and strength to make it through. As God made the universe (including my body), knows how everything works, and can heal with a word (and can heal me when the doctors can't), I was disappointed that God seemed relegated to a more emotional-support role.
