I felt mostly meh about this book. It had an interesting world built, and non-white characters which I love, as well as developed LGBT romance, but the plot didn't really grip me like I was expecting. Some of it seemed to drag, but I didn't hate it. Others may have strong opinions one way or the other, but I'm a bit lukewarm. I liked it, but not enough to continue the series, but also not enough to not recommend trying it for yourself. I was hoping to be more engaged with it even as I read it.

Such an interesting take on the idea of psychic powers and religion. Can't want to see where this series goes next/

I really liked Scott, and Nick was a lot of fun.

I enjoyed their journey but it wasn't all what I was hoping it would be.

They were sweet together, started out as friends and slowly grew closer. Romance wise this was right up my alley. The boys were fun! As were a lot of the side characters.

My main concern was the length. I found the writing good! But it was too drawn out for my liking; I got almost bored at times, especially when it became heavy on the GODS and stuff. That's just not really my thing.

The backstory wasn't explained very well, I think. The HOWS and WHYS of it.

I do appreciate the time and love the author put into creating this book and its characters. And for the most part it really worked for me! As I said, I truly enjoyed the MC's POV, which is very important.

Many, many thanks to the publisher who kindly provided a free copy for an honest and impartial review

ARC Review: Read My Mind by Kelly Haworth

Man I totally meant to read this before its release date and get the review up but I failed again (not nearly as bad as I've failed on other arcs...but oh well). Anyway!

I enjoyed this one so, so much. I love how Haworth has crafted the universe this is set in, all of the mythology surrounding the gods and the way pop culture is informed by that. I'm huge into mythology and it was just absolutely fascinating to read a book set in a world with a completely different mythological history to the one we're used to, you know? Haworth does such a great job introducing you to what's normal in this world and it all feels so natural and normal.

I loved the characters. Nick and Scott. I loved how they approach religion and magic differently. how Nick grew up on the pop culture side and Scott on the more devout magic-from-divine side of things. And I love that that wasn't a problem for them! I love that they both learned form each other, how Scott was able to give Nick more context for the comics he loves so much and how open Scott was to exploring the modern tales that were created from the stories he grew up with.

And I loved. I loved the conflict. I loved how the two of them had these outside forces to deal with - familial issues and obligations - that were holding both of them back. And I loved how they each struggled to learn how to handle it, both knowing that they needed to handle it before they could be fully open to each other.

And I love their relationship. I love the development and the missteps. I really just loved this book so, so much.

5/5 stars

I hate giving up on books, and unfortunately, I did for this title. This title wasn't magical enough to keep my attention.
