This was a good and fast read. Unfortunately, I just read a VERY similar book about a year ago. I think because of this, the plot twist was not shocking. Well written, and easy to connect with protagonist.

TW: mentions of child abuse/neglect
How does one even begin to write a review for a thriller? How do one even begin to explain the dread and terror one feels while reading a thriller? The fear of the unknown? It's almost impossible. But I will do my best.
The book right away starts you out with a scene of gruesomeness. Chelsea survived an attack and the murder of her two roommates. The book then fast forwards five years to Chelsea slowly healing from it all. She has a lot of memory issues and she's still very afraid but she is doing her best to move on. Until she starts getting threatening messages from the killer and all her hard work of rehabilitating starts to go downhill.
From the get go, I was hooked. Chelsea's POV, which was in third person like all the others, was interesting to read. I felt her anxiety and her fear. I felt her shame and her pity about being so afraid and being just to debilitated to try and get better. She was completely unreliable at times, going back and forth on her feelings and events that transpired, due to her memory loss issues. But I didn't mind it. It made focus on what was going on and to remember those details for later.
There were other POVs too, such as Boyd, who was her friend from when the murders happened at the time. Elizabeth, whom she met at a psychiatric hospital. Detective Lang, who was first involved in the murders/attack. Each brought something to table and added another piece to the puzzle of what truly happened the night Chelsea was attacked.
I just felt so much fear and suspicion of everybody. I thought that everybody was a suspect and I couldn't trust a damn soul. This kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and there were times I had to put the Kindle down and just stare at nothing, trying to gather my thoughts. That's when I know a book is good.
OVerall, I liked this book a lot. Everything about it was creepy and unsettling. I'm going to be looking into her other work with the hopes that it will be as good, if not better, as this. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to be completely unsettled and disturbed during the entire book.
...that sounds weird, doesn't it?

Wow... this book blew my away.
Disturbed is a an addicting psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your toes! Man, I will be honest I thought this book was going to leave me disappointed BUT wow... definitely a refreshing and unique twist to this thriller.
This is the ABSOLUTE perfect novel to read right now with Halloween being right around the corner ;).
On Halloween night five years ago, Chelsea Dutton and her roommates are celebrating their friend Amy's birthday. The night ends with two girls brutally stabbed and murdered to death and Chelsea is found in her bathtub with multiple stab wounds clinging on to her life.... A message is written in the bathroom next to Chelsea's body "YOU MADE ME'' (ugh... can we say creeeepppyyy)
Five years later as a sole survivor, Chelsea is trying to come to terms with her trauma and can't remember what truly happened on that awful Halloween night. Chelsea has been laying low in her current life and hangs out with her best friend Elizabeth whom she met after the murders...who has been her rock.
Well... Chelsea's life is about to change real quick... one day she is at the Farmer's Market and runs into a familiar face. It's Boyd... one of the friends she was celebrating with who escaped that night of the murders. Chelsea feels herself gravitating towards Boyd and starts a connection. But, is Boyd really who he says he is?
Chelsea receives a note that says those three awful words she so was longing to forget "You made me". It's not over..... who is still tormenting Chelsea? Is it Boyd? Or is something else more sinister at play here?
Jennifer Jaynes had me at hello with this novel. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. I did not see that twist coming! Definitely recommend this one... devoured this in a day!
4 creepy and addicting stars!

The mind is such an interesting creature!
This is my first Jennifer Jaynes novel and it won't be my last. I LOVED it. Just when I thought I might have a hint about what was going on, she flipped the switch. It wasn't till about 90% that I figured it out and stopped having doubts.
Disturbed is a semi-dark read, the murders being gruesome. Chelsea has a hard time overcoming her past and what she went through that dark night. Paranoid and vulnerable, Chelsea tries living life day to day but can't seem to move on. She slowly starts unraveling and the truth comes to light.
This story is told in third person and normally I don't enjoy that. This book, however, it worked perfectly. You get a glimpse from Chelsea herself, the detective, and a few others. Extremely well written.
That last 10% - I spent a good hour on google after reading. So interesting. Jennifer did her homework on this. Great read!

This should have been a 5 star book, but the characters and storyline were so underdeveloped that I couldn't find it in me to give a hoot. The mystery was a good one, and the big bad was a shocker. As it is the character of Chelsea and Boyd just didn't shine through. I thought they were both whiny, poor pitiful me type of idiots. They were both very one dimensional, and that's a shame. My thanks to Thomas & Mercer, and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Disturbed by Jennifer Haynes is a great choice for a Halloween, themed read. The story begins with the murder of two co-eds five years ago on Halloween. On that night, there was one survivor, Chelsea. We move to the present where Chelsea is trying to pick up the pieces of her life. She is still haunted by the events that took place five years ago. In addition, she has met a guy who she knew back when the murders occurred and she is also being stalked by someone who is leaving her cryptic notes about the murders. To up the tension, readers find out that the killer was never caught. That’s not all, Chelsea can’t remember a lot including the murders so even though she survived, she doesn’t know who the killer is.
The book is filled with suspense right from the first chapters. I was curious about the murders and the stalking talking place. I had my suspicions. However, the twist was totally unpredictable. It was not something that I had read about before so I totally never saw it coming. It was bizarre but it still made sense.
Disturbed is a really fast-paced thriller. There was something about the book that reminded me about movies like Scream, Friday the 13th, Halloween.
This might be an unpopular opinion especially given the number of 5 star reviews that this book has received. However, the movie-feel for me meant that there wasn’t much done in character development. You know how movies manage to cover so much in less than two hours? That is what I felt with this book. It was thrilling but I didn’t connect or care much about the characters so this lessened my enjoyment of the twists. In addition, there was something off about the characters. They were supposed to be young but they sounded way older. For instance, I really thought that the lead detective was about 70ish but he was in his early 40s. This was not because of his bad back; it was in his mannerism, dialogue. There’s an instance where the detective actually said this, “God, at the age of forty, she was still a stunner.” Seriously, is 40 the new Golden Girls age? This could be issues with me though and not the book. In addition, they are not major of course so don’t let this deter you from reading the book.
Nevertheless, this was a good read that I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a book that is creepy, disturbing and fast-paced.

This was a haunting read. Keeps you guessing and has a twist you don't see coming

This was pretty darn entertaining. I knew that this book took place during Halloween so I had to move it up my TBR stack.
The book starts with a bang! A cop arrives on scene and find's two college girls brutally murdered in their apartment while a 3rd girl, Chelsea, is just barely clinging to life while hiding in the bath tub.
We find out that the girls had company that night, Ethan and Boyd. Boyd had to leave early to go to work. Ethan is never seen again after the murders. He is their only prime suspect and the case goes cold after so many years. He has simply vanished or so it seems.
Fast forward to the present and we find that Chelsea is still reeling from her ordeal and barely leaves her apartment. Her only solace is her best friend Elizabeth. Then, out of the blue, Boyd re-enters her life. That's when the strange messages start arriving. She is terrified that Ethan is stalking her and wants his revenge.
This is a short, fast, and creepy story. I enjoyed the few hours I spent with this.
I would like to thank NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I can honestly say that the reason behind everything was a shock. No hints, of course. Just that I didn’t see it coming – at all!
Disturbed is a fun book. It’s highly entertaining and I enjoyed some of the twists and turns.
I did have my usual abhorrence of ‘main female character doing stupid things’. While it still bugged me when the book was finished, I’ll just say that the author took care of things in that regard. There are reasons for everything here.
I wasn’t exactly satisfied with the ending, but still though the author did a good job of surprising the reader.
I’d read the author again.

I received this ARC thanks to NetGalley and I absolutely loved it. I also received Jennifer Jaynes previous novel, A Stranger Inside, as an arc and I loved that one as well. This was a psychological thriller that I could not stop reading. There were times when I had to force myself to stop just so I can go to sleep. It's definitely for those who enjoy a good psychological thriller with a great story and a couple crazy twists.
This is about the only survivor of a murder in college who finds herself being threatened by the killer who is still wanted by police. The detective who originally worked on the case, now retired due to a back injury, takes on the case. What follows is definitely some crazy twists and it all leads to very "disturbing" ending. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
I recommend picking it up when it comes out.

I received an ARC ebook from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review..
Wow! I really enjoyed this book. I could not put it down. I thought I knew what the outcome was going to be but I was completely taken by surprise and would not have guessed this! I definitely am recommending this book to my friends..

I really thought I knew where this thriller was going but boy, was I wrong! After Chelsea survived a horrific attack when she was in college, she is still paranoid--worried that Ethan, the suspected attacker who killed 2 of her friends--is still out there stalking her. So when Ethan's friend, Boyd shows up unexpectedly should she be worried or is this the answer to her increasing loneliness? Chelsea's best friend, Elizabeth tries to warn her as she has become the girl's greatest protector. When detective Lang re-opens the case after Chelsea receives veiled threats similar to the one left at the crime scene, things begin to spiral out of control until the explosive conclusion. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! Now I will go back to read her other novels!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of DISTURBED in exchange for my honest review.
Wow, I am... Disturbed! Nice play on words, I know, but really, that is exactly how I felt after reading this book. It was suspenseful and troubling and a major page turner. I flew through this book. It was an easy read, allowing me to really focus on the story line and disappear into the book. I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it for any suspense seekers out there.

On Halloween night five years ago, Chelsea Dutton’s college roommates were viciously stabbed to death, and Chelsea was critically injured. She was found hiding in her apartment’s bathtub, barely clinging to life.
With only fragments of shattered memory, she’s been trying her best to move past the nightmares ever since. Now in Boston, she lives a somewhat reclusive life, working from home as a medical transcriptionist and bingeing on mindless television shows.
She can’t shake the fear that her attacker is out there, waiting to finish what he started, and Elizabeth, a nurse she met after the murders, is the only person she can trust.
When someone from her past reemerges, Chelsea starts receiving disturbing messages and worries that her every move is being watched. As the messages mount and her memories begin to return, she’s led to a very terrifying and lonely place. But she needn’t be afraid. She won’t be alone there for long.
Wow there is so much I want to say about this book, but dare not for fear of giving spoilers.
Well written, good characters and a brilliant plot. 5*

A great read, full of unexpected twists. Five years after Chelsea survived a massacre that killed her two roommates, she is still very unbalanced. The main suspect disappeared after the murders and Chelsea feels him watching her all the time. Then again, it could all be in her mind, as she has been suffering from blackouts and losing track of time. But someone has been leaving her creepy messages that no one but the killer could know. She only has her cat and her best friend for company. When someone from the past reemerges, things start spiraling out of control and her sanity, if not her life, may be in danger. The story reminded me a little of The Final Girls, but I found it more entertaining and the characters are more realistic and compelling. Every single character seems to have something to hide and the secrets revealed are very surprising. I especially liked the character of the cop who gets a second chance to investigate the murders that he never solved.

I received a free ARC of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Halloween night three college roommates are viciously stabbed. Chelsea, the only survivor, is found cowering in the tub and barely alive. She manages to say "Oh, my God. Ethan" right before she drops into unconsciousness. A message in blood, "YOU MADE ME", is written on the bathroom mirror. Ethan, a rich playboy, is the prime suspect. His fingerprints are on the knife block and his DNA is found on one of the victims but he disappears before he can be detained.
It is five years later and Chelsea doesn't remember events of her life leading up to that night. She still has flashes and nightmares, certain smells make her sick, and sometimes she thinks she catches glimpses of Ethan. She is sure it's just her mind playing tricks on her until one morning on her run she spots Ethan watching her. This time it feels different and soon after Chelsea finds a note on her car that says "YOU MADE ME"...but that's something only the killer would know.
This is a page turning thriller that I could not put down. It had me guessing throughout and left me reeling with a surprise ending I never would have guessed. A must read for those who love surprise whodunits.

Review: DISTURBED by Jennifer Jaynes
DISTURBED, Jennifer Jaynes's fifth novel, is a finely tuned psychological suspense. At first I wondered if I had "gone off" this type of mystery after decades, since I found myself suspecting absolutely everybody. Really! But Ms. Jaynes's intriguing plotting and excellent character studies soon won me over. What's more, she elicited empathy for the real innocents, and she made the story eminently believable, too--which made DISTURBED a winner for me.

4 Stars - Five years ago, five friends decided to celebrate their friend’s birthday at the apartment, three girls and two boys. But at the end of the night the thing that police found was two girl’s bodies with multiple stab wounds, one of boys left the apartment sooner and the other one was disappeared into thin air! They found the third girl cowering in the corner of the tub with stab wounds, barely alive. And a message was written on the bathroom mirror:
YOU MADE ME
After these years, Chelsea still can’t remember who did this to them and who was the killer. She remembers the night of the attack but not the important parts. The police couldn’t get the killer. Now she receives some strange notes that indicated to that night and she thinks the killer’s coming for her to finish the job!
I really liked this one. It’s one of those psychological thrillers that you’ll enjoy it! It’s well-written and fast-paced. Told in multiple POV, 3rd person. It’s a stand-alone novel. It was truly enjoyable for me and hope you like it, too!
Thanks to Jennifer Jaynes, Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for the advanced digital copy in exchange an honest review.

Disturbed
Gripping from the very first chapter. Chelsea and her college roommates are having a get together when they are viciously attacked leaving her two friends dead and Chelsea in a critical condition. Traumatised by what happened and only a few memories of the attack she spends her life as a bit of a recluse, working from home and only going out when she needs to. Her only friend, Elizabeth, who she met after the attacks. There’s a few twists and turns in this book. Highly recommended.

Do yourself a favor, stop what you are doing and get this book right now! The perfect creepy chilling book to read right around Halloween. Loved it. This book grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me flying through the pages to the very end. I started this yesterday mid day and have finished it a day later, unputdownable!. Jennifer Jaynes does it again! Another great, well written and suspenseful read! 5+ stars!
