This book was an amazing and wonderful surprise!!! In the vast ocean of contemporary romances, it is hard to give the reader something a little different, but this story delivered. We have our hero, Cain, who is funny, and sexy, and smart, with just a smidgeon of that alpha male so many seem to love. Usually it is the male character who is broken and dark and brooding, who has to be pushed to love. In this case, it is our heroine, Celia, who gives us the angst. Celia feels she failed the one man from her past that she truly loved, by promising to keep his secrets, and because of this her heart remains with him, so she has nothing to give anyone else in her life. Then, she meets Cain, who lets her love and laugh and live. But she carries so much guilt with her, and sabotages her hopes for finding her true happiness. There was a surprise twist, that had me just staring at my book and thinking "well damnit, I didn't even see that coming", and giving me that angst factor that I adore.

I definitely recommend this for my marmy loving friends, and for anyone who wants a romance with something a little different.

I received an ARC from NetGalley to read and review. The below is my honest, unbiased opinion. Thank you, J.A. DeRouen, the publisher, and NetGalley, for allowing me to review.

STORMS OVER SECRETS is the third book in J.A. DeRouen's Over series. Each book is a standalone story and can be read on its own, but of course, it's always better to read these stories in the order the author publishes them. This book is a new adult romance. It is not intended for readers under the age of 18. In this book, the romance between Celia Lemaire and Cain Bennett.

This is my first DeRouen book, and I was not disappointed. There were moments I would have better understood had I read the series in order, but I wasn't completely lost. Even so, I do recommend reading the other two books first. This was an erotic read with some dark themes that were really well written. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys new adult or erotic romances.

I did not get a chance to finish this novel. Based on the description, I was very intrigued and upon reading the story my expectations kind of fell flat. I know for some this might be the kind of romance book theyre looking for but I was expecting something a little different.

This story was an okay read for me. Maybe I expected more because I read and loved a previous book in this standalone series and I felt that this one fell short. The story flow was too slow for me and it was hard for me to connect to the characters. I liked the characters individually but I didn't feel that connection between them as a couple. I hated what happened to Lucas's character; I especially felt his mom should have done more when everything was first mentioned. I did feel that Celia really cared for him but even then I didn't feel a deep connection. I really liked Cain's character but even with that being said I didn't feel the connection between him and Celia that I was expecting to feel. Yes, there were sweet, funny and heartfelt moments but I still feel as if something was missing.
