Unfortunately I was not able to access the book. I normally download on kindle but this facility was not available to me. Disappointed because I am a huge fan of Breaking Bad and was really looking forward to this companion piece.

Breaking Bad 101: The Complete Critical Companion is a book by ABRAMS written by Alan Sepinwall.
Created by Vince Gilligan, I admit I didn't know this TV series but the book is written divinely well, giving to the fans all the best they want to know and appreciate of the various series.
It will be for sure a wonderful gift or a great present for yourself if you are a fan!

I thank NetGalley and ABRAMS for this eBook.

I am a huuuge Breaking Bad fan, so as soon as I saw this book on here, I couldn't request quick enough. But unfortunately, I do feel like my high hopes weren't met. While some episodes are explored through just over a page, others are more in depth and feel like they are being stretched scene by scene. I was hoping for more of a 'recap' of episodes not as if I was rewatching from beginning to end. This made reading some chapters quite difficult and I will admit, I did skip a few chunks in some chapters. I did enjoy the book, the exclusive essays and the chats with the creators. I also love the cover and its simplicity!

Re-review:
I just reread the entire book because I had a strange craving to. I feel like I missed a lot the first time around and after reading again, I was blown away. Such a brilliant book for a companion for beginners or for long lovers who just want to relive the experiences. Absolutely fantastic.

Looking back, I wish I could say I was on board with Breaking Bad from the beginning.

Lured by the potential of a former X-Files writer, I tuned into the first installment and let the first season stack up on my DVR – only to delete it when the DVR got full.

I didn’t quite connect with what Vince Gilligan and company were trying to do in season one. But with seasons two and three generating such a huge buzz, I decided to give the show another try. Like the product at the center of this show, I was hooked, binging all of season three in the weekend leading up to the debut of season four and then breathlessly waiting each new installment as they aired.

Part of the Breaking Bad experience wasn’t just watching the episodes, but reading Alan Sepinwall’s critical analysis of each installment. In fact, I’d argue that watching Breaking Bad without Sepinwall’s analysis, insight and thoughts wouldn’t have been as rich an experience.

And while the original reviews of each installment are easily found using Google, you can read all of Sepinwall’s thoughts on this pivotal television series in his new book, Breaking Bad 101.
In his forward, Sepinwall notes that he edited some, rewrote others and kept some pretty much close to as written at the time of the original episode’s airing. Re-reading these reviews reminded me of the high points and the points in between for Breaking Bad. The show built to huge moments by giving us those “in between” moments that many crime shows or movies would gloss over. What it left us with is a show that could wring tension out of Walt and Jesse trapped in an RV with Hank closing it while it also showed us the slow descent of a mousy guy into a self-deluded master criminal.

The great part about Breaking Bad 101 (besides having the reviews collected in one central location) is that Sepinwall doesn’t spoil future installments, seasons or developments. The book can be used if you’re coming to the show for the first time (though you may be tempted to peek ahead. Let me implore you not to. Breaking Bad is best enjoyed a chapter at a time without knowing where it’s all going to play out) or if you’re looking back on the show again. Sepinwall includes some interviews with the creative forces behind the show, looking at pivotal episodes and developments in the story of Walter White, but the real meat is the analysis. Each chapter reminded me of just why I grew to love this show and why it proved to be so incredibly addictive. In fact, the book made me want to go back and re-watch not only pivotal episodes and moments again, but the entire 62 episode run.

Breaking Bad is one of the best television shows ever made. And this companion to the show only makes it better. It reads like a lost extra from the DVD or Blu-Ray box set.

A great little companion to one of the most popular series of recent years. Despite each episode entry only being a page or so, there is good indepth analysis and background information on every page. Small anecdotes and quotes add to the readers' enjoyment.

A 'must have' for all fans of the show.

Many thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC, for which I have given a voluntary and unbiased review.

One of our best critics taking on arguably the crown jewel of the golden age of television, yes please! A near perfect companion for those watching the show for the first time or re-visiting it. Sepinwall's piercing insights, largely positive, occasionaly critical, aim to aide the viewer and better understand the characters on screen.

I liked this book. I'm a huge fan of the TV series and found this to be a nice walk down memory lane especially with the episode recaps and I like how they manage to tie in Better Call Saul as a nod to the shared universe that the characters all live in. A nice edition to companion books and fans of the show (even if the cover isn't very eye catching).

I was drawn to this one as I love Breaking Bad. Ever since I sat and binge watched every single episode a couple of years ago I have loved it. Now, the cover, I have to admit, doesn't really appeal to me - it's a bit too stark and boring for my liking, and I just don't like the colours! I know, you think it's only a cover, but I do read a lot of books based purely on their covers, so I suppose this does matter to some!

This book gives a short explanation of each episode, and whilst it is only a page or so per episode it definitely gets you remembering each one! It also has little snippets of information or quotes, some I've heard of before, some I haven't. Some of these also link into Better Call Saul (another personal favourite), and it's got me wanting to watch that all over again as well!

A great book for any Breaking Bad fan! I am definitely starting back from episode one again....although I can't remember how many times I've already done that. Breaking Bad is a television masterpiece, and because of that this book is definitely one to own!

Five Stars!
