Zenka is a thriller involving Hungarian pole dancers and Russian mobsters. Most people who have read it seem to have enjoyed it.

Zenka starts off a little confusing. There is a girl, Zenka, who is very dominant and likes to have her way. The book is titled after her however, it doesn't feel like she is the main character. The interactions with Zenka throughout the story line consist of brief snippets of conversation or question and at the end of each chapter, she writes a letter to her dear friend. That letter sums up what happened (via her perspective). The story line moved slowly for me. It is about a mob boss who finds out that a one time incident when he was young and still good may have produced an offspring. The story line of the book is focused on how the boss is going to approach his too nice son. There are twists and turns of course, which do keep the book moving however, I felt that once it got close to the end, there was a LOT of action and plot twists thrown into a few chapters. No spoilers here however, it doesn't all turn out the way you would expect from reading the first half of the story. Forbidden love, skeletons in closets, crime bosses, and hit jobs all rolled into a nicely woven tale.

MY REVIEW OF “ZENKA” by Alison Brodie

WOW! Thank you to Author Alison Brodie in “ZENKA” of bring her unique wit and dark comedy to a suspenseful novel. The genres of “Zenka” are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Dark Comedy and Satire.

Alison Brodie describes her colorful characters as complex,, complicated, confused, mysterious, strange, quirky, and dysfunctional. Zenka is supposedly a Hungarian Pole Dancer who is rescued by Mob Boss Jack Murray, and has dedicated herself to being “Jack’s Guardian Angel”.

New information shows that Jack may have a son Nicholas, who is a mild mannered, gentle, kind, and compassionate nurse. Zenka wants Jack to have a family, and decides to intervene and toughen Nicholas up. Is it possible to change Nicholas from a calm, non combative person to a tough criminal? Is Zenka who she really claims she is?

There are twists and turns. Dead bodies are showing up. Certain parts of this story are extremely humorous. I was totally captivated by this story. I would recommend this for any reader that enjoys satire and dark comedy. I received a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

I have never read a book by Alison Brodie and the cover of the book almost kept me from reading. One of those can't judge a book by its cover moment.
This book is a can't miss read. The story is over the top and fun. Readers will find themselves smiling laughing from the first few pages. Alison Brodie has a wonderful writ and humor that makes it very natural flowing from page after page.
Readers will get lost in the work of Zenka
