I really liked the way this story started out, it just sort of ended up going in a direction that lost some of the earlier momentum. I love a forbidden romance and the dynamic between Lake and Manning is certainly off limits. The sexual tension and the obvious chemistry had me hooked from the start. But there are elements of the plot that just went a little over the top for my personal taste and there were some details at the end that gave me pause. With that said, I definitely want to keep reading. I want to know what happens next, even if whatever happens next is just as OTT as this first book was.

This was my first Jessica Hawkins novel and I really enjoyed her writing. I REALLY enjoyed her writing. That is worth repeating. And I really liked this story. While it's not without its flaws, it's certainly an addictive page turner that I devoured in one day. I have to assume things only get more messy and more complicated between these characters as time moves on so I'm anxious to read the next chapter of their story.
