I am just going to write a short review on this as it was not exactly the type of book or novel I write about on my blog. Anyway - I needed this book. I've been feeling down and lazy lately but this was very cute with little positive affirmations throughout. It would make a great little Secret Santa gift, stocking filler, or birthday present for a coffee table book! It's definitely one for all who need a positive message and a colourful unicorn in their life.

I somehow expected more unicorns in this book! In these 100 pages, Unicorn pees, farts, and deals with poop...and it's all illustrations so it gets kinda gross. I couldn't tell if it was trying to be a humor book or a life skills guide. Maybe recommend for patrons who love unicorns and can put up with the text's ambiguity.

While I was very much so looking forward to reading and reviewing this book, it unfortunately was archived by the publisher before I was able to read it.

Given how foul half the news is these days, anything that promises to add a bit of positivity and humour to life sounds like a great idea! 🙂

Be a Unicorn is a bit of both. Illustrated with charmingly childish doodles, it contains things such as Unicorn’s 10 Rules for a Good Life, e.g. “Know that sometimes you will make mistakes. After all, you are only a unicorn”, and “Cake is delicious, but unicorns cannot live by cake alone.” All very sweet, and yet also quite true.

After this comes a series of sentences and accompanying drawings, and these are a little more random, perhaps, and even a little strange in one or two cases.

It’s also worth noting that this is not really a kid’s book. It’s that strange sort of title that makes you think it might be, or for those embracing their childish side (“Unicorn laughed so much at his own joke that he made a small puddle”), but actually I think the messages are only really aimed at those adults needing to find their inner child. Unless, of course, you want to explain why “Unicorn decided to wear the bikini” (good body image message for grown ups, of course) or why he’s wrapped around a pole for his new exercise class o_O

Knowing what to expect, a second read confirmed to me that this is just a sweet little book of positivity, with a slight strangeness that adds to the humour. I can see this being an excellent secret santa or stocking filler, to be honest – especially for the unicorn lover in your life 🙂

Be a Unicorn & and Live Life on the Bright Side by Sarah Ford is one of the most adorable books that I have ever seen. From the moment that I saw the cover I was won over. One little unicorn encouraging other unicorns to be themselves. I could not help but chuckle at some of the cute things the unicorn was doing to garner smiles. Life can be hectic and at times awful. Let the silly unicorn of this book turn that frown upside down.

I want to thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an advance ecopy of this book. It was a delightful take on how to live. I am rating it Five Stars because who wouldn't want to be a unicorn. Seriously, I am rating it that high but it does exactly what it was written to do. It creates smiles from the cover alone. Once you delve into it, you cannot help but be entertained. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs a laugh.

This was an absolutely adorable and fun read that I really needed in my life at the moment. With the cute and colorful illustrations and the hilarious snippets about life that accompany them, this little book greatly picked up my spirits. It’s a very feel-good book that delivers laughs in bite-sized pieces with very fitting pictures that only continue to add to the delightful and positive message. It portrays fairly deep ideas in a very comical format, and I think it would be very difficult to complete this book without a smile on your face.

The wisdom of a unicorn is very well-rounded, and its view of life is very optimistic. Unicorn lives in the moment and knows how to properly care for himself. He finds the good in everything, takes time to savor every experience—good and bad—of his live, and loves himself for who he is. Unicorn demonstrates actions of self-care that we should all be including in our lives, dispensed in a humorous and highly enjoyable way.

The quirky style and vivid coloring of the illustrations added another layer to this sweet little book. It’s one of those books that you can pick up whenever you need to boost your mood and read a few excerpts just to brighten your day. It is overall a very random collection of affirmative little vignettes, which is a format that I really loved. The only complaint I have is I really wish it was longer because I was enjoying it so much. I will probably return to this book whenever I need a laugh.

Feeling blue? Don't worry...be a unicorn! A cute collection of aspirational drawings of a unicorn and unicorn's very happy existence. Now I'm going to go off and be a unicorn, damn it!

This was such a cute book. Easy and fast to read, I would read it several more times! It talks about the rules for unicorns, how they should be, etc. The main part of the book is about a unicorn named Unicorn and her likes/dislikes, what she does for fun, etc. So cute and refreshing. Takes your brain away from all of the problems of life and makes you smile, even giggle a bit. Read it! Have some fun and walk on the unicorn side!

Such a cute little book!

Unicorn is one cool dude. He doesn't let life get in the way; he celebrates life!
Unicorn knows that it's the little things that matter, especially when they're free. He isn't afraid to do what he feels is right, even if he looks silly doing it. And he always looks on the bright side, even on the rainiest of days.

Although Be a Unicorn may seem like a silly little book that's meant to make you giggle a few times, that's an oversimplification. This little book has one simple, easy-to-understand message: If you live your life like Unicorn does, you, too, can be happy, confident, and carefree.
If more people were like Unicorn, there would be a lot more happiness in this world.

Besides the simple yet powerful message of this book, I loved that fact that it made me laugh out loud A LOT. The illustrations were adorable and funny in an unexpected kind of way. For example, one page read, "Unicorn loved to feel the rain on his cheeks," and on the next page, the accompanying illustration shows a rain cloud hovering directly over Unicorn's rear end. I mean, c'mon, if you can't at least chuckle at that, then chances are you take life a little too seriously.

I think most people would agree that Be a Unicorn would make a great gift for anyone, especially those who need a little extra encouragement in their lives. Pulling this book out anytime I felt sad or frustrated would certainly make me feel a whole lot happier!

If you're looking for a gift to cheer someone up, including yourself, this little volume should do the trick. It's filled with life advice inspired by Unicorn, who demonstrates these life lessons via colorful chuckle-inducing drawings (illustrated by Anita Mangan). At first, I was prepared for Hallmark-level syrupy cuteness overload, but the lessons have a goofy sense of humor to them that I love. My favorite: "Unicorn enjoyed dressing for dinner; today he was Morrissey, but tomorrow he had big fans for Frida Kahlo."

Basically, the book succeeded at making me smile and laugh, and generally feel like, yeah, I shouldn't be so hard on myself and laugh at life more the way Unicorn does. Unicorn knows.

I'll definitely be giving this gift book to friends who need more Unicorn in their life.

This will definitely be given to a number of friends as Christmas presents this year, it has the most joyful and warm feel to it as well as being beautiful to look at and funny to read. I loved the illustrations which were just a little bit rude in places, and the bold colours were perfect. Although a fun book - I really liked the ideas and suggestions for how to live a more contended life and see the good in the world. It fits well with my personal philosophy and I do think I would enjoy looking at it many times, particularly on a rainy day - perhaps after some colouring!
