Wow I read this in just a few hours because I couldn't put the book down for a minute. Irina is called home by her sister (Whom she is estranged from) for her mother's funeral. Irina was "given away" as a young child to her aunt and never knew why. After going home to Scotland and seeing her father and sister again old fears and questions arise. Irina sister Elle is mentally deranged and all though Irina wants to help her the cost is too high. A lot of suspense, and twists and a surprise towards the end lead to a very satisfactory mystery novel!

When she was teased mercilessly by classmates for her disability, her birth sister, Elle, stepped in and stopped the abuse by beating the living hell out of the lead tormentor. As a child, Rini didn’t know whether to worship her sister or fear her. As she grew up, she realized fear was the right response and tried to keep her whereabouts a secret from her toxic sister, but somehow, Elle has always found her. Now she calls to say that their mother is dead and that Rini needs to attend the funeral. Against her better judgement, Rini agrees, knowing that with her unbalanced sister, anything could happen. This book was a difficult read for me, because, Elle was so horrible (she kills her own dog), and because I wanted Rini to be stronger. Still, it’s a riveting read, as readers will want to know why Rini was given up for adoption and Elle was not
