Fans of sci-fi, fantasy and gaming will love reading The Geeky Chef Strikes Back! by Cassandra Reeder. The author has compiled recipes based on popular books or series. Reeder says:

"I have my own Prime Directive, and General Orders 2 and 3, to help me navigate that. Here they are:

1. I must try to do the fans and the media creators justice by making the recipes as accurate as possible.

2. I must try my best to keep things simple and avoid overly complicated methods and overly rare and/or expensive ingredients.

3. I must try to make the end product taste good. Or, if it's not necessarily supposed to taste good, I must try to at least make it edible."

With that in mind the reader is taken on a tour of recipes featuring foods that reflect the book/series mentioned in the recipe. The author writes nifty and informative intros before launching in the recipe being written about. You will also find plenty of color photos illustrating the various recipes.

Some of the recipes you'll find include:

Pumpkin Juice (Harry Potter)
Eztlitl Stuffed Mushrooms (Guild Wars)
Mushroom Stew (Minecraft)
Cream Cheese Frosted Corapple Cake (The Elder Scrolls Online)
Pumm's Hot Pumpkin Soup Legend of Zelda)
Jawa Juice (Star Wars)
Bloodwine (Star Trek)
Highland Sandwiches (Outlander)

Recommend.

I have to admit that while this book isn't perfect (for me), I laughed and enjoyed it immensely. Pros: I'm a big fan of anything 'geeky' or 'nerdy', and the fact that this book title mentions "Minecraft, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Twin Peaks, and More" completely drew me in. The illustrations weren't as great as they could be, however the photos are beautiful (and that's what counts). The titles of recipes and their inspirations kept me giggling, especially since I'm a '90's' kid myself. Memories and nostalgia really made this book for me. I also love creating themed 5-course menus, and this book really opened my eyes to other themed nights that I hadn't thought of (like "Hook", "Twin Peaks", "Legend of Zelda", etc.). While some recipes I'd pass over just based on personal taste, there are quite a few I'd want to attempt (Beef and Bacon Pie, a la GoT, Gunslinger Burritos, Honey Cakes, Norma's Cherry Pie, among a few), and again, I just can't get over that Ms. Reeder got her inspiration from the most amazing sources :)

As a geek myself, I'm delighted with this book and I'm looking forward to try some of the recipes that are explained here, most of all the Klingon coffee, I just wonder where were I when the fist book hit the shelf, because now I have to find it absolutely!

Stunning photos and ingenious interpretations of some of fandom's favorite foods will make your mouth water and your hands itch to get cooking! I'm already planning an unconventional cookbook blog post for my librarythat will feature this book.

I must confess, I am only a geek by marriage. I know, I know, I am actively trying to up my geek.

I thought spending a decade with a Super Geek Hubby would have prepared me better for this cookbook but I must not be as big of a geek as I first assumed because I couldn't see the connection between many of these recipes and the Sci-Fi/Fantasy counterpart. Additionally, I thought it covered way too many different shows/books/movies. I thought maybe focusing on a few different ones rather than throwing them all into one book would have been better.
