I do not expect much from books containing short stories. It is more of a thing I read when I do not have the time or set of mind to read a novelle. Still I expect to be entertained/shocked/scared by the author of the stories. The book started of on the right track. I loved the first story For Better or For Worse, it was the perfect amount og scary, creepy and science fictiony. Therefore I was just the more disappointed by the next story. During most of the time reading this book my mind kept wandering, and I could not be bothered to go back to the few sentensens that I missed at a time, the stories was not worth it.

I liked the stories For Better or For Worse and Attrition, and those two were the only ones between the eight in the book.

Every October I read scary books only. Josh Craven's collection "For Better or For Worse" did not disappoint.

This collection of weird little tales range from sci-fi, to horror, to a good old fashioned psychological thriller. There's a little something for everyone. Some stand outs include "The Last Photographer" - a story about grief and "Cake and Smokes - about an older woman who wants to sell her house, but not leave.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

2.5 stars.
Just ok - good. I liked the first one the most, 'For Better or For Worse' (which is also the title of the book) I think its because I have been reading alot of crime lately and I started reading the first story as if it was a crime, and then when I read the part about the husband walking into his wifes hospital room and sees her for the first time, I just had to laugh. Im sorry but it was hilarious! The image I got in my head will be remembered for awhile, so I bumped up my rating mostly because of that. The other stories were alright too. Definitely something to read if you are in the mood for something a bit silly.

A book of dark stories that are not for the fair of heart. These stories take you to different realms in each authors imagination. The stories are all interesting and good reading.

This was a really nice change to read some very different stories that had a few endings I really didn't expect, it was a good read with a good mix of storylines some were more bizarre than others but a very pleasant surprise to read.

A good anthology with some short but effective horror. I wasn't sold from the firs story, but it picked up from there. "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?" was particularly good.

I loved this book. Nice collection of short stories that can be read either fast or slowly. The stories are not long so they can be read quickly. Once I started reading, I could not stop. My favorite was "The Past Never Dies". If you are a fan of short stories, you will be doing yourself an injustice by not reading this gem of a book. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

Received from NetGalley in exchange for a review. Great book of short stories. This is not your book of O'Henry short stories! They are dark with themes of the supernatural, horror and even a taste of sci-fi. All are good stories. All involve human nature, good and bad. I recommend this to anyone who likes to have a book of short stories around and enjoys the darker side of life and imagination. I will be looking out for more books written by Josh Craven.

For Better or For Worse is a curious collection of bizarre tales, that range in nature from Sci-Fi in the title story, to psychological thriller, to horror. The first few were just not for me but the last 5 more than made up for that. In "Attrition" several job applicants show up to interview at a law firm that has but a single job to offer. Times are tough and they all desperately need this opportunity. Desperation can be a dangerous thing! I loved this one.

In "Cake and Smokes" an elderly woman puts her house on the market but tries her damnedest to not get put out of her home. This one was super creepy.

"The Past Never Dies" was my absolute favorite. It's about love and loss and grief. Barney has recently lost his wife, and begins a daily journal to deal with his emotions and to tell his wife all the things he can no longer say. Strange things begin to happen as Barney is haunted not by his wife but by his own past.

"The Last Photographer" also touches on grief as Kat tries to face the fact that her husband is losing his battle with cancer. When she tries to both hold on and let him go she learns that some things are far worse than death.

All in all a good solid collection. 4 out of 5 stars from me.
