This book was a refreshing take on how someone deals with grief. After losing her husband, Paige's life is in limbo, but she knows she needs to be there for her teenage son. Her job is in jeopardy, so she might lose another constant in her life. She starts digging her backyard and finds it therapeutic and a new beginning...but, a new beginning of what?

Along the way she makes new friends that help sprout not only her new garden, but her life.

This is one of the best books I have read this year.so far Looking forward to reading more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free copy of this book.

Paige's husband died 2 years ago and ever since Paige is barely living. Her life is in shambles. Paige needs to learn to live again for her son, her job, and her poor neglected yard. Paige starts digging up her backyard because of the weeds and just keeps digging. This is a beautiful story of love, learning to live again after a terrible loss, and family. I really loved Paige and her strength. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing. All opinions are my own.

With her book Digging In, Loretta Nyhan has written the most wonderful book about rediscovering yourself after suffering an excruciating loss. The main character, Paige, is struggling to get her life back on track after her husband’s death two years before the book takes place. When a disgruntled neighbor points out her neglected lawn, Paige’s response is to just start digging. The events after that are filled with humor and sadness, and a poignancy that I felt in my heart. Paige is such a great character, and although her sorrow is palpable, what comes across even more is her resilience and strength. The characters in this book are quirky, supportive and intriguing...each with their own unique story. Although this book revolves around loss, it is told with so much warmth and heart, never becoming maudlin. This is a book that captures all of our emotions; I cried, I laughed out loud, and above all, I was extremely touched by this story.

I loved this one! Tender and sweet and hilarious. Packed full of wise moments, with a fresh take on what it is to experience grief. The characters seemed so lifelike I caught myself considering Googling one of them to see what she was up to in her life now! Hilarious take on split generation offices - Hipsters vs the Shoulder Pad brigade. Recommend this read to anyone.

Paige is finding it hard to live life again after the sudden death of her husband. Dealing with her teenage son, Trey, and with a new unreasonable boss at work, Paige starts to let loose by digging a huge hole in her garden. Does it sound crazy? A little, but letting loose brings her to a new chapter in her life, including gardening, new friends, as she digs her way out of her rut. Well written, with humor and tenderness, I recommend this book.

This is a good story that is well-written and very readable. Will it knock your socks off? No, but cuddle up with a cup of something and read it. That said, it is not fluff at all. It is a walk through a family’s grief and into the light of friends.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

This was the first book by Loretta Nyhan that I have read but she is on my radar now! The premise of losing the love of your life is simply heartbreaking but Nyhan writes with such grace, beauty and truth that has you tearing up on one page and laughing on the next. I found this to be an inspirational story of picking yourself back up again and something we can all relate to at one point or another in our lives.

A story of grief, moving on and building a community. I enjoyed the story of Paige more than I expected. Her husband died suddenly 2 years ago, he boss who was like a father then passes as,well. Paige is struggling with her work life where her job is now endangered as well as her personal life dealing with her grief and her son. One night, tearing up her years opens her to a whole new perspective.

Loretta Nyhan is a new author to me, but this won't be the last book I read of hers.
It's a fantastic, emotional, laugh out loud story of picking up the pieces of your life following the biggest, sudden loss you have to face and doing it YOUR way!
Truly well done and a must read for anyone.
Words to embrace each and every moment:
"When you give something meaning, it's worth remembering. We filter out the stuff that doesn't touch our hearts."
