This is an excellent graphic memoir. The art style is impressionistic for scenes occurring in the past and more distinct for the few pages that are present-day. I love the use of color, with mostly sepia-toned black-and-white for the nostalgic sections with pops of color, and a blue-and-white middle section.
I really appreciate that the book is sparse on words. So many graphic novels are overburdened by text. I still feel that this book could show more through images, but it does do a better job than most at being text-light.
A moving memoir with a distinct art style.
