I’ve wanted to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas for a long time, but I haven’t yet. So when I saw the manga version, I had to read it.

I really enjoyed the story. I love that it’s a cross between Halloween and Christmas. Though those two holidays are two months apart, they’re so connected, since as soon as Halloween is over, the shelves are filled with Christmas gifts.

One problem I had (and I’m not sure if this will be the same in the physical copy) is the colouring. It’s in black and white, and some of the panels were so detailed that it was hard to tell what was happening. When only two colours are used, it’s difficult to distinguish between characters, so sometimes I didn’t know what was happening. Also, many of the speech bubbles didn’t have an obvious direction of who it was coming from, so I couldn’t tell who was speaking. These issues may not be as bad for someone who has watched the movie, but since I wasn’t familiar with the story before, I struggled with these visual problems.

However, I really liked this story. I’m glad I read this manga edition!

My daughter got me into A Nightmare Before Christmas, and I wanted to see what the Manga world would look like. This was a feast for the eyes and I loved the artistry. I think I have one Christmas gift off of my list. Loved it!

I love Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, however this GN falls flat with me.

Honestly, this just made me want to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on repeat! TNBC is an absolute classic and perfect for this time of year!
The manga was a great way of experiencing this famous story in a different manner. The artwork was beautifully done as well. I do admit that I was slightly disappointed that the manga was black and white instead of filled with colors, it just felt dreary at some points in the story (for example when Christmas Town was first shown). Equally, I would have wished that there was some new, innovative element to the story instead of an almost exact replica (then again, I might not remember the movie as clearly as I think).
I do think this manga is very loyal to the movie, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd still go with watching the movie again. As lovely as this experience was, nothing compares to the spooky atmosphere the movie creates.
I would recommend this to anyone who has seen the movie multiple times and just wants to try something new...also to younger children because it seems like a great way to get them to love Burton's style.

The copy from Netgalley was barely readable due to the watermark from the publisher. Very annoying! I would prefer to see the movie again cause nothing beats one of Burtons real masterpieces.

This is a retelling of the Disney classic in a different style. This book is very true to the manga style in terms of the drawings and layout. The images are a little dark at times which makes it hard to follow what is happening. It’s perfect for those who love the original story and want to experience it in a new format.

High-level loyalty to the original film, even the characters, who have an interesting Japanese style, remain the way many of us remember and love them. Many points because of that!

This book is nicely done! Good art-work for the story which is well known.

3.5 Stars
I know I have been bashing on the new Tokyo pop line because I hate what they do to the story and the art. However, this title has me singing a different tune. It plays well against the well know story, and you find yourself singing parts because that is how you expect them to be. Overall, a nice job.

This was a fun take on NBC (one of my favorites!)! The artwork was great, with the great storyline. Recommend for any NBC fan!

I really enjoyed reading The Nightmare Before Christmas in manga form, as I believe Tim Burton's grotesque art style fits the manga aesthetics quite nicely. The overall aesthetics and feel of Tim Burton's film translates very well into the manga form, in which the character designs seem very natural and fitting. The manga follows the film's plot very faithfully, so much so that even the songs have been added as part of the characters' dialogue/monologues. This is something I feel could have been avoided, since for someone who isn't familiar with the film and the songs themselves, this addition is of little to no value, and suddenly moving from normal dialogue to rhyming one might even confuse some. Although the story seemed a bit rushed, it was still as intriguing as the original film and certainly a great read for Halloween or pre-Christmas time. I would definitely recommend it to any Tim Burton fans and to anyone who would like to add a short, fun read to their Halloween reading list.

Disney Manga Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas brings us the beloved Christmas classic in the form of a manga graphic novel.

Everything follows the same plot as the original movie, with Jack longing for something more until he finds himself in Christmas land where his plans start to take form.

I felt this maybe wasn't the best portrayal of the story as things were a little condensed and dialogue from the movie which made it great was lost. I also felt certain points were a little confusing in layout which lost the fluidity of the story leaving the reader a little lost at points.

Overall the story is good but it isn't anything new from the original but instead just a re written version that lost some elements that made the movie great.

★★★☆☆ 3,5 Stars for this pretty visiual adaption of the most wonderful Halloween movie

First of all, I love Nightmare before Christmas, it's such a wonderful movie that doesn't get any less beautiful no matter how often you see it! So, of you're I had to request this manga version of it.

Eagerly, I started reading it as soon as I downloaded the secure ePub version. And was promptly disappointed. For a few minutes I thought that the Mangaka had made the scenes really confusing until I realized that whoever made it into an online version couldn't be bothered to just let you click from left to right. No, they wanted to preserve the feeling of reading a manga, which is simply annyoing as hell. I have read mangas, you don't need to show me their way even in an electronic version, you don't need to make my life more difficult and make me scroll to the "end" just to start reading it.

But I forgot, that's how next to all mangas are handled I received via Netgalley so far...so this is basically me whining about all ePub mangas so far. Don't let me get started on the resolution of them mangas.

Anyway, let's get to the actual story! The illustrations were pretty, there is no doubt about that. The manga is very pleasing to the eye.

The overall story was also nicely done and easy to follow, but. But! Nightmare before Christmas has such beautiful lines and they are simply missing. Well, not exactly missing they are alluded to, parts of it get spoken or used but slightly changed. And I don't know how that would influence copyright and stuff but I found it rather disappointing.

All in all it is a nice read and if you or your friend love the movie it's a nice thing to have on your shelf but it honestly didn't life up to my expectations.

At first I thought there would be a very narrow market for this manga -- those who like manga and those who like the Nightmare Before Christmas -- but I think there is appeal outside of those two groups as well. This is just an adaptation of the film. I do wish there was something innovative with the story (like a new story from the world) but it is very well adapted.

This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween HALLOWEEN.....

I LOVE ❤️ Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas passionately. Yes, I even have a holiday tree replete in Sally and Jack Pumpkin splendor! So imagine my surprise when I came across this amazing little manga that I had never seen before!!! It's fabulous!!!

Manga is a type of Japanese art form used in pre-history but now adapted to create Japanese comics. They are wildly popular all over the eastern region and gaining popularity in the west. What is so fun about this particular manga is that Tim Burton's creations already are so brilliant, there was little for the Japanese artist to alter. You have to love the imagination of Burton. For westerners it is also fun and/or challenging to read the manga in its original form which is right to left meaning that you have to flip the book over or start from back of your ebook. I love it!

While you're reading all the spooky ooky ghosty tales this Halloween, I hope you'll give something new a try.

Thanks to Netgalley for this wonderful little gem!

It's been a while since I saw the Nightmare before Christmas for the first time, I don't remember when but i remember that I loved it. My love for Halloween movies and Christmas movies have not lessen since then. Because of this I was a little skeptical om this Manga. But it was just as magical as the movie.

The songs played in my head as I read through the windows, and I smiled when there was a detail that I had forgotten. I still prefer the movie, but after watching it for the n'th time, it was nice to read the manga.

A super cute manga adaptation of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. The story here is the same as the film. The Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, has grown bored with Halloween and is looking for something to spark his imagination when he stumbles across the door to Christmastown. He becomes so enchanted with the atmosphere and delight of Christmas that he decides to host the holiday instead of Santa Claus with disastrous results.

Jun Asuka's art style is extremely faithful in capturing the characters and scenes of the film while still adding her own flair. Looking at the art made me feel whimsical and nostalgic for the film again. I also adored how this manga got inside Sally's head a little more, and the added dialogue that wasn't included in the film only helped enrich the characters. Probably the only thing I missed was the stop-motion animation and the full-length musical numbers. (I still heard all the characters' voices in my head, clear as day.)

Overall, this was cute and fun and would serve as a nice holiday gift to that kid in your life who likes the spooky stuff and Christmas cheer. I almost wish I had had it at a young age because then I wouldn't have waited to watch the film until my mid-teens because I was a scaredy-cat.

This is a pretty straight forward manga version of the Nightmare Before Christmas movie. The illustrations are so-so, but there is nothing striking enough about them to help them live up to the movie's visual beauty. This book might be a quick and enjoyable read for some hard to interest readers, but fails to offer anything new or different for fans of the film.
