Unoftunately, after numerous attempts to read this book, the story just wasn't for me and I had to DNF

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and because of that I felt obliged to persevere and finished reading it. Wyoming Manhunt is described as a thriller, but I found it quite boring. The main character makes a series of bad / irrational decisions which make her hard to root for. The plot is far-fetched and based on a misunderstanding. There were many scenes that read like padding. And the romantic suspense was lukewarm at best. If this hadn't have been gifted in exchange for a review I would not have finished reading it.

Good plot with interesting characters and a lot action.

I almost didn't finish this one, dnf-ing it at 69%. I simply had a moment of giving up. Then I stiffened by spine and kept on reading. The result is the same...Didn't like it.

It was definitely too long for what it tried to do, piling up twists and turns that failed to heighten the intensity and ended up boring me instead.
I felt no connection to the two protagonists, their "romance" left me cold...And once I realized the whole story was based on a simple misunderstanding (that ended up having deadly consequences), I truly wished I stopped reading sooner.

Manhunt is a solid suspense story that moved along at a quick pace. Though I thought parts were a bit implausible at times, I thought it was a good story which puts the heroine Shana in danger from someone she thought she could trust. The hero was a bit brusk at first, but he had his reasons. When he realizes the seriousness of the danger Shana is in, he can't help but be protective of her and her young daughter.
I was a little confused when I came to review this book, it is an e-book reissue of a Harlequin Intrigue WYOMING MANHUNT from 2008 and the Wyoming was removed from the title and the cover is different. I like the newer cover better.

Loved this book!! It is a great mix of suspense and love. It grabs you from the first chapter and you won't want to put it down until you find out what happens. Will definitely be checking out other books by this author.

Wyoming, murders and uranium mining

First, this book was re-released under the name MANHUNT on June 15, 2017. Same book, different title.

Shanna Clarke is an accountant at a Wyoming uranium mining company. She is invited on a hunting trip with the CEO and CFO of the company - and doesn't think that's strange even though she's never hunted before or even shot a gun. She thinks she's getting a promotion and instead gets shot at. (And yes, she is blonde.)

She gets away and finds her way to the ranch of Jace Lantry, who has secrets in his past, and they both try to figure out why her boss is doing his best to kill her.

This was just an okay book for me. Shanna was just too gullible, the plot was thin, the sex scene was gratuitous (and if it happened where and how the author described, the pair would probably be pulling puncture weed, thistles and tumbleweeds out of some tender spots.)

I was looking forward to the book because of the Wyoming locale and it did bring back memories - of some of the more unlovely parts of the state.

I received this book from Season Publishing through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read the book and leave an unbiased review.

Interesting concept, certainly a thriller, but I gave it three stars because I figured the why at the beginning of the book. Still a good read and definitely a good mystery read.

Enjoyed the twist and turns for Jace and Shanna's story. This is the first book in Ann Voss Peterson's Rocky Mountain Thriller series. Looking forward to the rest.

This story had so much potential but unfortunately it fell short for me.

First, I swear Shanna is a complete airhead. She doesn't question anything; from the get go she doesn't find it odd that her boss invited her on a hunting trip when she's never once shot a gun? Second, she doesn't think about consequences of her behaviors or actions. Third, she only gives partial truths when people need to know the full story to help her.

Jace...I can't see why someone who has never met this woman or has any ties to any of the people involved (except a random neighbor he bought land off of) would suddenly risk his life. Retired cop or not, there should have been some hesitancy.

The actions that nearly got them caught were just complete and utter stupidity ones. For a retired cop, he should have squashed some of the crazy ideas that Shanna had.

This is an updated book from a previous release.

Shanna is an accountant hoping for a promotion. The book starts with Shanna on a hunting trip, and her boss starts shooting at her. She escapes to Jace's small home and he reluctantly helps her escape from her hunting group, which includes her boss and the county sheriff. From there the mystery deepens.

On the plus side this is an action-filled story that kept me interested. On the negative side, at times it read like the fledgling effort of a writer. All-in-all I give this 3 stars.

Wyoming Manhunt was a fast-paced, entertaining read packed with thrilling adventure and drama! The characters in this story were great! Shanna and Jace made a fantastic team. I enjoyed reading this story and the ending surprised me which I really liked!!

While this book was published previously, this was my first time reading it. I will start by saying it was definitely not realistic, but I'm not of the opinion that fiction always has to be. It made for a relaxing night of escapism. Jace was my favorite part of this book. He was surly, sexy, and not at all interested in getting involved with Shanna. He eventually decides to trust her, and they have some pretty steamy moments. As far as action, this story actually has quite a bit going on as Shanna and Jace first run for their lives then end up having to hide from law enforcement. It makes for a pretty entertaining read.

What i fantastic book this is a great read with plenty of action i just wanted to keep reading.While on a hunting trip Shanna's boss trys to kill her she manages to get away and runs into Jace when she finds his cabin in the middle of nowhere,hes not so sure about her story but does know she's scared and as an ex-cop has to help her.These were super characters and very real,a man who can say sorry and a women who does not sit and cry when thing are bad.I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

So, I came REALLY close to DNFing this one, folks. But I hate to DNF, especially when I get the book from NetGalley, so inexplicably, I persevered and made it through to the very end. I wish I could say things got better as I got to the end. They didn’t.

​There were a number of points early on in the story where I started to question Shanna’s intelligence. And if there’s one thing that pisses me off in romantic suspense, it’s a TSTL heroine. For example, here are my questions for Shanna:

1. It didn’t seem at all weird to you that your boss, the CEO of a huge corporation, asked you, a lowly accountant, out on a corporate hunting trip? I mean, it wouldn’t be so weird if you were a hunter...but you aren’t. So, why in the ever lovin’ hell would you agree to go hunting, even if you thought you were possibly up for a promotion? Surely if you deserved a promotion, it wouldn’t hinge on whether or not you could shoot Bambi.

2. So, your ex-husband was an embezzler, and your boss is trying to kill you? Wow. You have crap luck, Shanna. Or perhaps you should reconsider some (or all) of your life choices? ​​

3. You met with the SEC a week before your boss tries to kill you, and you’re still confused as to why he might want to kill you? Really? Hmmm...seems pretty obvious to me.

4. Your first instinct when you’re about to be attacked by a big dog is to put your leg in its mouth so that it can’t bite the big strong rancher/ex-cop who has come to your rescue? Now I’m starting to understand why your boss wants you dead. I kind of want you dead, too.

5. You trusted your ex-husband and he let you down, you trusted your boss and he tried to kill you, and you trusted another person (whose name I won’t disclose because it would be spoilery), and that person betrayed you. You know what the common denominator is? YOU, Shanna. It’s YOU. It’s time to consider the possibility that you’re an idiot and your judgement is crap.

​Even if I was able to overlook Shanna’s stupidity, (which I’m not) I’d still be confronted with Jace’s behavior, which didn’t strike me as particularly realistic, either. I mean, here’s a woman you don’t know, claiming innocence while trying to steal your car, and the police tell you she’s a murderer. What’s your reaction? Why, sneak her out of town, of course! Hike up a mountain and fight off vicious guard dogs for her, obvs. Duh. (I’m side-eyeing Jace pretty hard at this point in the story)

Then to find out later that he’s an ex-cop with a prison record? That makes his actions all the more ridiculous. He should’ve avoided Shanna like I avoid doing squats and eating cauliflower. (Just to be clear: I hate everything about cauliflower and was once almost crippled for a week from doing squats, so that’ll never happen again.)

But outside of his completely unrealistic motivation for helping Shanna, Jace wasn’t a terrible hero. He was strong and capable and kind-hearted, which kind of makes me wish I could fix him up with a heroine from another novel, because he can definitely do better than this one.

So, at the end of the day, Jace earns this book 1 star, and I award the other star because while I hated the heroine, the story was technically well-written.

Manhunt by Ann Voss Peterson is the first book in her Rocky Mountain Thriller series and if they are all as good as this one I'll have to add more gift cards to my book budget. I haven't read this author before and it won't be the last one.

Shanna and her daughter are starting over after her ex-husbands betrayal in Palmer, Wyoming. When she quickly rises up the ranks at her job. When her boss invites her along on a hunting trip she doesn't think he'll be trying to kill her what what she knows but doesn't remember. When she escapes and meets Jace Lantry they are so on the run from not only her boss but the sheriff also.

Jace Lantry is also starting over after being betrayed by his own partner on his last case as a cop. He paid for it with jail time so when Shanna shows up with a bizarre story he hesitates to help. When he agrees to take her to her office Jace doesn't expect to also be running with both of their lives in danger. I loved how he always seemed to find a way to get them what they needed to survive and how when Shanna's daughter gives him her treasured Red Power Ranger he takes it knowing that not only does Emily trust him but Shanna as well. There are plot twists with every page turn and a surprise ending that will have you saying I didn't see that coming. All in all a wonderful book and now I need to get the other two books so I can finish the series.

Great Lifetime movie story to share. Peterson tells of greed and money and its power over the laws that are suppose to protect the everyday citizen. Shanna is on the run from a bullet shot by her boss. Accountant of a major mining company has put her in a position to view sensitive information that will ruin her boss but she does not know what it is. With the help of Jace a rancher with his own secrets; they bob and weave to escape discovery. Bit of romance mixed in of course and the lesson that all is not what it seems and trust can to deadly. When the simple hunting trip with her boss (that could get her the promotion she yearns for) turns out to be a life and death matter, Shann, an accountant, for a mining company starts to ask questions.
The fact that she is on the run accompanied by Jace, an ex-cop, doesn't make it easier to get closer to the truth. He's handsome and she's attracted to him but they've got to get to the bottom of things first!
This made for an interesting read and it was not as full of suspense as I'd hoped. I received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
