Aargh...why does NG no longer allow you to be nice and give no rating... There was no real plot to HAUNTED BLADE, and no cohesion. It just meandered from one random scene to the next. Some stuff happened. More problems with the Assembly and especially with Kit’s evil grandmother. Kit and Damon have a lot of sex.

I've quite enjoyed some of the earlier books in this series. I like the UF world, and I really like the kickass Kit...although she was bristly to the point of being bitchy here; but the rambling, wandering writing style is killing me. This book (and the last) read like a first draft before any editing.

The story itself isn't bad; I just can't get on board with the Daniel/Walker writing style. Parts of the book were quite interesting, and there are some major repercussions threatening Kit’s life and world. Unfortunately, other parts weren't so interesting.

The last part of the book was intriguing, as was the ending (another cliffhanger); but I think I'm going to make my break from this series. Others may well love it; I'll just say it wasn't for me and leave it at that.

The struggles and emotions in this one only heighten the impact of the danger they face with a end to all they knew, East Orlando will never be the same.  There are also a lot of other interesting characters in this book, some are strong enough to even get a book of their own.

While I haven't read all the books in this series but still didn't feel lost the so this one would work fine as a stand alone but I think once you read this one you will want to go back and read the others.   This one has a great ending with a setup for the next one.

BOOK BLURB

Haunted, Hunted…and harassed.

Never let it be said that Kit Colbana had ever been given the easy road. Or even the semi-paved road. Only weeks after dealing with the mysterious—and murderous—being called Puck, she’s got another killer on her hands. Perhaps even two.

Some of the bodies turning up bring up haunting memories of a past she longs to forget, but as always, that past is chasing her at her heels, like a hated shadow.

As the body count racks up, there’s an imbalance of power, particularly among the vampire population, and Kit must yet again deal with ugly memories as one of the monsters who tried to break her is set free to deal with the imbalance of power. Yet while a power struggle rages in East Orlando, there’s another, more subtle battle taking place and Kit feels like the center of it all.

Arrogant? Maybe. But the dead bodies don’t bear the mark of her grandmother’s pet killer by sheer coincidence…and she doubts her nemesis being released is either.

My Thoughts

When it came time to read this 6th book in the series I was filled with a mixture of anticipation, trepidation and excitement all mixed together. Kit had been on her way to recovery in the last book and hope that she was almost wholly herself again was strong as it was hard to reconcile the person she became after suffering at Jude Whittiers hands with the character I admired from the first story on.

This spoke to the power of imaginative word crafting on the author’s part and the ability to create a character so strong it was agony to read about what it took to finally break her will but a joy to read about her emergence from that darkness into an even stronger version, albeit one with emotional cracks still showing now and then.

This time Kit is haunted by nightmares from her past, hunted by even deadlier enemies and harassed by those wishing to keep her safe Kit is once again a far cry from the broken creature Damon rescued from Jude Whittier.

However now that Ms. Colbana is back in the game she finds herself facing a new evil adversary that she may not win against this time, especially since he has the power to set free her former tormentor which of course is a nightmare come true for Kit.

With enemies all around her and allies willing to die on her behalf Kit is once again smack dab in the middle of something she cannot stop without help and lots of luck.
