I love Carolyn Brown cowboy books! I finished this book in a day - fun, sassy, easy read. Just what I needed after this past week.

A re-release for, One Lucky Cowboy. I enjoyed the first time I read it years ago, and did even more this time.

Jane Day rolls into North Texas on a Greyhound bus and ends up getting a job at a local ranch. Nellie Luckadeau takes Jane in to be a cook and helper at the Luckadeau ranch. Her grandson, Slade, is sure that his grandmother Nellie has made a big mistake in hiring Jane. He's afraid that Jane is a drifter, thief, or just a dishonest person. Jane is really running away from her ex-fiance and stepfather who had a devious plan that was uncovered literally right before the wedding. Now Jane has to stay in hiding and can't divulge anything from her past, no matter what. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but I got a little tired of the bantering between Jane and Slade and their crazy scheme to put her in hiding. Good story that really was weakened at the end.

One Lucky Cowboy by Carolyn Brown will be available March 6, 2018 by Sourcebooks, Casablanca. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

While I love everything Carolyn Brown, I have to say that One Lucky Cowboy (Lucky #2) was a surprise for me. This story not only has sexy cowboys, strong female characters and meddling grandmothers, it also has a hint of suspense and mystery, which I found refreshing. This is the story of Slade and Jane.

Jane Day is running from her past. Engaged to a man she thought she knew, she runs away on the night before her wedding after overhearing that her soon to be husband and her stepfather are planning her death before can inherit her families Oil Company. She only has 6 weeks until her 25 birthday, and if she can lay low until then she can go back and claim her birthright and throw her stepfather out on is ear. When she is offered a job on the Double L Ranch she knows that it is the perfect place to hide, the one place that she will never be found. And despite the protest of the sexy cowboy wanting nothing then to ship her as afar away as possible, it is the closest she has felt to home and family in a long time.

Slade Luckadeau does not trust Jane Day. Really what kind of name is that anyway? He has a feeling that she is nothing but trouble, no matter how well she cooks, and how hot she makes his blood boil. He wants her off his land, and away from his grandmother. But as Jane and Slade keep getting thrown together, they form an unlikely friendship. Just as Slade begins to put his misgivings aside, Jane's past comes roaring into town.

As Slade is forced to take Jane and run, keeping her safe until her birthday, they give into the desire that it building between them. But danger is closing in and they don't know who to trust. When it is all said and done, will Jane and Slade find their HEA or will they be forced to walk away.

What I loved about this story is the element of suspense. I mean yea they were on the run, and they had no idea who they could truly trust, but some of the funny things that they experienced, their impromptu road trips and sight seeing were laugh out loud funny. And the feelings that they had for each other were real, they just needed to have faith in themselves and in each other. And amazing addition to the Lucky series.

have no idea why this book, originally published in 2009 with a different cover, is being re-released, but it is, with a release date of March 8th. When I requested this book from NetGally, having never read Ms. Brown’s books, I thought I was getting new work, not a nine year old book being dusted off and re-covered. I do think the new cover is way better.

The dialog is way past the “Texas twang” mentioned in the blurb, and uses every cliche ever written about Texas and Texans. Talk about bad stereotypes.

The story is pretty good. The plot is okay, and the pace is quick and linear. The constant bickering between Jane and Slade got old. I understood from very early that the two main characters didn’t like or trust each other, it didn’t need to be used as a mental battering ram. Sometimes silence speaks louder than words. When they finally decide that the bickering is foreplay, the sex scenes...aren’t there. Just a big zero. Apparently they tear up the sheets off page, but we hardly get a hint.

We get to hear them talk about old movies at length. Some of that was pretty witty. There are several conversations about books, so many in fact that I wondered at times if I was reading a book or a review blog!

The grandmother, Nellie, singlehandedly saved the book from a 1 star rating. She was great. Her sister wasn’t bad either. However, Slade’s previous love interests were an insult to Texas women. Trashy, trashy, trashy.

If you’re in the mood to read about basically good people, church going people with big hearts, you might enjoy this book...if you aren’t from Texas. Texas people might feel a little belittled. Keep in mind that the author was born in Texas, but makes her home in Oklahoma. Oklahoma loves to make fun of Texas, so the whole thing may be a little “tongue-in-cheek.”

Enjoy! (Tongue firmly in cheek!)

Jane Day is on the run from the men in her life, who want her dead. When she comes to live (hide) on a ranch, Slade Luckadeau is having none of it. The chemistry and banter between the two main characters is fun to watch ignite and I genuinely enjoyed this book! Keeps you on your toes all the way to the end, and even then you'll want to read it again!

Reprint. This book was just okay. The banter wasn't charming like some others I've read. I like some of Carolyn Brown's books better.

I don't know exactly why but I could not get into this book at all I really just could not connect to the story or the characters. I wish it was a little more developed! I will try another book by her but I hope it is a little better.

This is the second book in her Luckadeau series from 2009. I've read many books by Carolyn Brown and she never disappoints me. Good series, I will continue reading her.

I really enjoyed this story, not sure if it's a rewrite or not as old reviews were so diverse.
Jane is on the run from her ex and stumbles into some good luck and a happy new home. She and the cowboy clashed like crazy, their banter hilarious. She's not a simpering needy woman but a little spitfire that he doesn't know what to do with.
Great bit of suspense in the latter half of the book, wondering how it would work out kept me glued to my kindle.
Great story, amusing characters, all round I recommend it for an entertaining read.

I love reading books by Carolyn Brown, and this one was really good. I liked the adventure mixed in with all the fun of the Senior ladies, and of course the romance. This one scored high for me and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Spitfire meets brick wall...one of the most enjoyable stories about stubborn meets stubborn I've ever read. From beginning to end, there wasn't a moment where I wasn't completely engaged with and felt connected to Slade and Jane. Snappy comebacks and banter, hilarious and at the same time smart dialog...you can't get better reading entertainment than what Ms Brown has provided. Throw in intrigue and suspense with a cast of quirky characters and you've got the perfect story to lose yourself in.
