If you are looking for a way to engage your students or children in classic literature, look no further. The Manga Classics is a great way for students to take those stories that they have heard from their early education years and put a fresh twist on them that will be engaging, memorable, and have them coming back for more.

The artwork for these is far more appealing than some of the other graphic novels that have been coming out lately, and students will enjoy the anime twist on the familiar characters. The visual appeal helps them to connect more with their reading, and works well for differentiating a lesson for students that need more one on one with comprehension.

Overall, I feel that these books hold true to the classic narratives while working to draw interest from the new generation.

First of all,I hadn't read ANYTHING by Edgar Allan Poe earlier.And Manga either.
So it was interesting for me to take up both of these styles that I hadn't tried on yet!

As a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, this was a fun read. I highly enjoyed all the art in this raphic novel. It really helped to bring the stories to life.

I adore Poe. I first read "The Fall of the House of Usher" in the 4th-grade WAAAAAY back in 1981-1982

In the 9th grade (1986-1987) when the rest of our class (super small school) was reading 1 short story and a couple of poems by Poe, me and the other 2 of us who actually had an interest, read EVERYTHING by Poe. Poems, short stories, the one novel, and the published/collected literary criticism.

For that reason, I still adore Poe and like to read all the stuff I find --

that being said, the Manga Style of this was new, unlike the other graphic novel adaptations I've seen over the years...

I've always liked Edgar Allan Poe's stories, especially The Tell-Tale Heart, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Black Cat, but until now I haven't had a chance to read the stories with illustrations. I had been craving an adaptation like this for a long time!

The work they did representing the Poe stories was magnificent and I am looking forward to getting a physical copy of such an amazing adaptation.
I especially loved how they portrayed and illustrated the story of The Tell-Tale Heart. It is by far my favorite story and seeing that new perspective only made me fall in love even more.

The illustrations were beautiful, the shots they used were just correct and adequate to represent the feelings of the moment. Especially lighting! In these stories, the way the shots were arranged and the darkness of the image played a very important role, which added suspense and made me get fully into the story once again.

I wish that instead of putting the story of The Fall of the House Usher they had put the one of The Black Cat, that story is more creepy and I would love to see it illustrated.

On the other hand, I think I loved the way the story of The Tell-Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death and The Raven was illustrated more, I felt it much more aesthetic and familiar, especially because it had the essence of manga illustration.

I hope to have the opportunity to see other collections like this, I really loved them~.

El trabajo que hicieron al representar los relatos de Poe fue magnífico y estoy ansiosa por conseguir una copia en físico de tan increíble adaptación.
En especial amé cómo representaron e ilustraron el relato de El corazón delator. Es por mucho mi cuento favorito del autor y ver esa nueva perspectiva sólo hizo que me enamorara aún más.

Las ilustraciones fueron preciosas, los planos que usaron fueron justo los correctos y adecuados para representar los sentimientos del momento. ¡Especialmente la iluminación! En estos relatos jugó un papel muy importante la forma en que se acomodaron los planos y lo oscura de la imagen, eso le añadió suspenso e hizo que me metiera de lleno en la historia una vez más.

Me hubiera gustado que en vez de poner el cuento de La caída de la casa Usher hubieran puesto la de El gato negro, esa historia es más espeluznante y me encantaría verla ilustrada.

Por otra parte, creo que me encantó más la forma en que se ilustró el relato de El corazón delator y La máscara de la muerte roja y El cuervo, lo sentí muchísimo más estético y familiar, especialmente porque tenía la esencia de ilustración de manga.

Espero tener la oportunidad de ver otras colecciones como esta, en serio me encantaron~.

Esperava mais da história, mais profundidade dos personagens, maior desenvolvimento da trama... A história caba caindo no clichê de drama, sendo previsível e raso. O foco do livro ser em uma amizade e não só no romance é o ponto positivo do livro. O desfecho faz sentido, porém não condiz com a postura dos personagens construída durante a história. Não me apeguei muito a história, gostaria de mais detalhes sobre os sentimentos e traumas complexos que são levantados, mas rapidamente deixados de lado.

I am not sure why I never gave the feedback for this book. This book was awesome. The art was amazing and the stories were ones I knew very well.

I have always wanted to see the dark and twisted stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life like this and I am so happy I picked up this ARC. The illustrator's renditions of Poe's eerie tales were chilling to the bone and such a thrill to read. I loved the stories this manga picked to tell and I loved their interpretations of his tales. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to see Poe's wicked stories through such a vivid medium.

For me it's been a very long time, about 18-20 years, since I read something by Edgar Allan Poe. That is until this week, when I read the Manga adaptation of a set of his stories. I know it's not the same thing, but it brought back memories of my teen years, when I would read anything that fell in my hands (not that it's much different from today - but I didn't have GoodReads or #bookstagram back then 😅)

The stories are adapted in a comic book style, Manga. It's my second comic in this Manga Classics Series and I'm pretty enthusiastic about them. There are about 310 pages full of art, telling these 5 stories in images and dialogue/text boxes.

I had read 3 of these stories in my teens, and loved them then. Getting to read the manga adaptations now was great. I think the art of the stories was very well done, as well as the text bubbles adaptations.

They did a great job of building the suspense, and grimness of the stories, the mental instability of the protagonists. I have read these at night, and I think it's the perfect time of day to read them, as it helps with the atmosphere. I am a sucker for a spooky story😅.

I have only read another Manga Classic so far, and it was Romeo and Juliet, which genre is very different from this one so that may influenced my judgement, but I didn't enjoy this as much. I liked it, yes, but I think the quality of some of the stories were a bit lacking in the details, it looked like it could have been a bit more developed. Some other stories also didn't capture well the themes and the dark enegry the tale was supposed to have. But, as I said, I enjoyed it anyway and I can't wait to read more pieces of this series.
Here I ranked the tales from the worst to the best (from my personal point of view):

I kept reading this through two cold nights and it was everything. I love Poe and the graphics in this book are amazing! I'm really impressed with the art work and how it all works together to create a creepy, eerie mood. Couldn't put it down. This is the first manga I've ever read, so I had a little trouble with the structure at first, but it didn't take long to get the hang of it (especially because the first story is The Tell Tale Heart, which is my favorite!).

This book was an excellent graphic version of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories. The renderings were beautiful and served the stories they were depicting quite well. I think this book could be a fantastic resource for educators who are working with students on Poe stories to aid in visualizing his work through a different medium.

Certain stories lend themselves to graphic novels; Poe’s works are in this category. His description of eyes, facial expressions, and descent to madness, to name just a few, create incredible visuals in the comic book format.

This Manga was enjoyable, and I would recommend it to younger people who are reading it for the first time. Edgar Allen Poe is a very descriptive writer, so I always like to see how artists interpret this. My favorite scene in the entire book was during the song in The Fall of the House of Usher. Roderick Usher is holding a stringed instrument (I really don't know what kind,) and there is beautiful artwork during this scene. I was a bit disappointed by The Mask of the Red Death, as to me it seemed like there weren't very many creative liberties taken. This being said, I would recommend this to people reading Poe's works for the first time as it does help the reader visualize what is going on.

To start this off, I really wish I had this when I was in school. It would have been so helpful to have the visuals in addition to Poe's writing. The publisher also has manga for other classic works of literature, which I would have found so helpful throughout school. I am interested in reading the Jane Eyre and Dracula Manga adaptations.

The art in this manga was wonderful and captured the essence of Poe. It was dark and twisted, and it illustrated the story beautifully. However, unfortunately, when reading adaptations of classic literature, I also have to review the base work. Now, if you know me, you know I love everything spooky. Dark is my favorite genre. However, I am not a fan of Edgar Allan Poe because of his writing style. It is redundant and wordy. I find most of his stories repetitive and unnecessary, which is why I was so thankful for the art in this manga. It helped keep me interested and helped me understand the story. I did like a few of the stories at the core, it was just all the unnecessary descriptions and tangents that caused me to take almost 6 months to finally finish this.

So, 5 stars for the manga and 2 stars for the story. Overall a 3 star read.

I'll preface this by saying that Poe is one of my favorite authors, so I already knew I would enjoy the stories. I think they did a fantastic job with the artwork and matching the atmosphere of the writing. I particularly enjoyed The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven, the artwork is gorgeous!

The Fall of the House of Usher and The Cask of Amontillado were a bit less eye catching, and might be more difficult for younger readers to connect with, but overall the collection was very good.

I think would be a great introduction for teenagers who enjoy manga and comic books, but have difficulty getting into regular books.

This is one of the most accessible Edgar Allan Poe adaptations that I've ever read.
And by this I'm by no means saying it's dumbed down, I'm just referring to how well it translated the complexity of his writing into something that's more straightforwardly understood.
The art plays perfectly within the narrative and gives light to the words, flawlessly helping get the idea of the story across visually. It's also deliciously detailed and dark, so it truly does help in setting up the mood for Poe's tales.
I fully admit that the four stars are mainly due to the fact that I have no love whatsoever for House of Usher and it colored my dislike of how it was presented. Compared to the lush presentation on the previous stories, it felt lacking despite having some of the most memorable images.
I would recommend it as a primer for new readers who aren't sure if they're ready to get into the dark and twisted writings of a classic or just to get someone hooked on Poe. Consider it a primer into all things Edgar Allan Poe.

This is a good adaptation of a beloved author of mine. It's interesting to see it adapted into a graphic novel and one of the manga art style. The stories adapted were his most common ones. Would like to know more about why the company picked a specific manga art style and book format to retell these western type stories. Never the less the artwork is classical manga art and stories are adapted well. If you are already a fan of Edgar Allen Poe you will enjoy these.

My Thoughts
With Poe, the eeriness of the stories are captured effortlessly with the art and the condensed text (as adapted for the manga version). The art easily captures the excitement of the moment, of every moment when we read Poe.

This collection includes the following:

- The Tell-Tale Heart (easily my favorite Poe) – illustrated by Virginia-Nitouhei (and also easily the favorite in this collection as well)
- as well as The Cask of Amantillado – illustrated by Chagen
- The Raven illustrated by pikomaro
- The Masque of the Red Death with art by Uka Nagao
- and The Fall of the House of the Usher illustrated by Linus Liu
I loved the extras included at the end of each story about the adaptation process as well as trivia about the story itself.

Manga Moment
Each book’s artwork is absolutely beautiful and the adaptation as well as the storytelling is brilliant. I love that each of them include details on the adaptation process at the end (rather the beginning) of the book which help the reader understand the choices the creators made, as well as get an insight into the process itself.

These books make the classics more approachable for those who were hesitant to read them, and will definitely want them either reading more or reading the originals. And I feel either reaction from the reader is good.

If a book leaves a reader wanting them to read again, then it has done its job! And these books manage to do that while leaving the reader (me included) with a blissful feeling of satisfaction of having seen and read something beautiful.

I now look forward to getting the physical copies of these books (definitely the Poe one) as well as to reading more in the series. And yes, to trying to emulate the adaptations – both text and artwork – myself.

This is a manga version of a collection of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. I have previously read The Raven and The Tell Tale heart. I have always intended to read his other works so when the opportunity to read it in this format came along I jumped at it.

It is really hard to rate this book accurately. I thought that the artwork was superb as was the way it was adapted into Manga. I was hoping to find a new favourite story from Poe in this collection but the only stories I enjoyed were The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart that as I earlier stated I have read before.

My only option of reading this was via Adobe Editions. I really feel that it would have been easier to read on the kindle app via my iPad. The adobe format was harder to read as zooming in messed up my reading with having to read from right to left.
