FBRC REVIEW :

This is another one of the Classic that I have yet to read in its original format. I have been wanting to but was intimidated by the prospect of it, so I put it off. Here I am reading the Manga version of it before the original work because I am thinking it will be easier to read and if I like it then I might pick the book later on. This book definitely has the creepy, horror and macabre vibes spot on. I liked the short stories individually and I have some favorites from it as well. The chances of me reading the original book is definitely a priority as with the other classics I need to get to.

The stories were dark, creepy, terror-inducing and had the gothic setting making the readers feel eerie and creeped out at the same time. I feel the need to check out the colored version as I am only getting the arcs that are black and white. I believe the effect of the colored ones would be even more amazing. I enjoyed the stories and the way it's written to bring forward feelings in the reader is fascinating. The stories were very well done with the pictures and scenes helping us follow the story. The gothic aspect and the dark, eery vibe stays and has a bigger presence in the stories.

My favorite of these would be The tell-tale heart, The Raven and The Masque of red death. I loved the other two as well. The stories are going to be staying in my mind for a long time and I am sure the madness, the frenzy and paranoia of these characters with the imagery is a great way of giving a lasting impression to the readers. I absolutely loved the haunting, sometimes, supernatural aspect to the stories. I adore the trivia gems that part of this brilliant book and it is always one of the things I look forward to in these editions. I am giving this book 4.5 stars as well with the chances of getting it bumped to 5 stars after I read the original. I highly recommend checking the classic edition of Manga if you are a fan of the manga format and have a love for the classics stories. Definitely check them out.

I always heard things about Edgar Alan Poe; mysterious, gothic, depressed, creepy and death, but I never dared pick a book or a poem by him. Why, you may ask? Because I'm a coward. There you have it.

I'm always scared to venture outside my comfort zone, especially when it comes to reading, because I'm always scared it will ruin my reading patterns and habits. So, when I got the chace to see the words "Manga classics", combining my two favourite things, I jumped to the opporunity.

The stories included in this books are:
- The Tell-Tale Heart
- The Raven
- The Mask of the Red Death
- The Cask of Amontillado
- The Fall of the House of Usher

Each story is more captivating than the other, and between each story there's a little information about Edgar, how he was raised, and an interesting thing that caught my attention was that he was paid $10 for his manuscript of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” nearly $314 (3,040 MAD) in today's economy.

My favourite story is "The Raven", because it's a poem and the writing style is captivating and enchanting, and I loved how the action and the words got you so intoxicated.

Another thing is how well the theme are shown in each story in a dark twisted way, like how the progression of life was despicated in "The Mask of the Red Death", the madness and the dept of insanity in "The Tell-Tale Heart", and the conflict of the soul and the self-hatred is described in a imaginitive way in "The Cask of Amontillado".

I'm totally gonna check the other stories of Poe, and read the other Manga Classics, since there's also Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibilty and Emma, and Emily Bronté's Jane Eyre.

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Stacy King, 308 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL
Udon Entertainment, 2017. $24.
Language: PG (3 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG13; Violence: PG13
BUYING ADVISORY: HS – ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This collection includes four short stories and one poem by Edgar Allen Poe, each illustrated by a different artist. These classics have new life breathed into them as the illustrators skillfully help readers visualize Poe’s works.
I feel like my mind is blown and my understanding is expanded every time I read a Manga Classic. My favorite of the works in this collection is The Raven because it was a poem that I had a hard time relating to in high school. Reading it in this context, I feel like I understand Poe and he understands me – separated through time as we are. The mature content and violence ratings are for the Poe-ness of the stories, including murder and ill intent that is presented as a solution to problems.

This manga was great! The reason I was so interested in this book is because I love Edgar Allen Poe's stories and manga. It was two of my favorite things put together! Even though it wasn't the finished copy, I could see the amazing artwork that would be in the finished product. I recommend this to anyone who likes weird and creepy stories and doesn't mind reading a book in the original manga style which is left to right.

I didn't enjoy this at all. I found myself bored out of my mind, just wanting it to be over. I managed to get about halfway through before I gave up. This just wasn't for me.

The artwork was nice, although the lettering was choppy and hard to read at times.

The book has great stories, the publishers chose the best stories from all the stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. The new concept that I tried. I enjoyed it. I requested this novel thinking it is a normal comic and I really wanted to try a comic and review it. I am trying my best to push myself out of my comfort zone and this book did a great job in it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the stories and loved the vocabulary used, I saw no mistakes anywhere. I was pleased with the graphics and everything was good. You should definitely try it if you like comics. I highly recommend this to comic readers.

As all good things have negative sides too, this book had too. I did not like the plain black and white graphics, although yes it has it’s own beauty, I felt that it missed the colourful touch that would bring the stories to life. I missed was confused while reading the last story of the book, the Fall of The House of Usher. I didn’t know what’s going on until the end and I didn’t like it.

Now to my main problem, I will be brutal sorry for the inconvenience caused by me to the publishers but I hated the font and size of the words. I have glasses with 0.5 in each eye. While reading this story I had to stress my eyes so much that they started paining. If I going through such stress with minor glasses, how would you expect other readers to enjoy your ebook format with such tiny words?

I was extremely displeased with the format, font and size of the words but I loved the description and words used in the story that made it easy for young readers to read with please too.

I give this book a 4-star rating because of its good story selection and the hard work they out to create a great atmosphere in the story. My favourite stories were The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado. I take the 1.0 stars because of the small fonts, size and pain it caused to my eyes.

I hope you enjoyed my review. It’s an extremely new and different type of comic and novel. It is worth a try. If you are pushing your comfort zone, I don’t think there could be a better way than trying a comic. We all read books, let’s try comics.

I recieved a copy of Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allen Poe from NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review.
Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorite poets and I was overjoyed to learn that his poems come in a Illustrated manga! The illustrations really set the scenes for the different stories and makes them slightly creepier than before. The poems are presented as Poe wrote them and even though you may not completely understand what's going on in the story, the illustrations keep you on track. I enjoyed the fact that each story have the illustrations in different styles, by different artists.
Now, the only problem I have with the manga being an ebook is the way you flip the pages & the ebook setup. I will admit, I'm not a huge manga fan, so the setup is weird to me anyways. I appreciate the picture grid on how to read the manga because I need a refresher every time. I don't like how when you open the ebook, you have to flip to the back of the book and it shows that you've finished reading it and that you have to count down the pages. Also, it may just be the version released through NetGalley, but I had to download the Adobe Digital Editions app on my phone to read this, and I really don't like the app: you can't zoom in to see details or read fine print. Overall I enjoyed the book, The Fall of the House of Usher was very long, but I enjoyed it overall.

I've only read a few stories (the one I had read the original form before), but I've read enough to know I love this! It's very interesting to read these classic stories in manga form. The artwork was beautiful, it connected very nicely with the stories, and helped me read the raven for the first time without wanting to fall asleep (so not into poetry!). I can't wait to read the rest of the stories featured, so I can keep reading this wonderful manga.

I might be falling in love with this series. It is exciting to see the artistic interpretations of the familiar classic stories, and having a variety of artists keeps it fresh and engaging. This volume and others in the series are a great way to introduce younger readers (middle to older elementary school) to the storylines and characters, and they are simply a fun experience for older teen or adult readers.

I don't think this is for me. Too confusing, abstract, and the language might be too poetic for a manga adaptation.

The creepy stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life with this Manga Classic. Some of the works included are the Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, and The Cask of Amontillado. The various artists make Poe's stories visible and capture the emotions of his characters and words. Each artist's style is distinct, the panels flow easily, and the storyteller has captured the essence of each story using the author's own words. This would be an excellent resource for any student studying Poe but particularly for ELL or lower-level readers. Highly recommended for any collection.

I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy the manga adaptations of the classics; they lighten up the storyline, add some illustrations, and make it much more concise and easier for readers to understand. At the same time, I do miss some of the details the original works offer.
Overall though, great illustrations and adaptation. I enjoyed the Red Death and the Raven the most.

Thanks so much to Netgalley for providing an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this so much! I have limited experience with Poe but have always enjoyed what I have read. This is such a great way to reintroduce classics to those less inclined to try them and has spurred me on to getting Manga Classics copies of other books!

This was okay. I liked the first two stories the most and felt the house of usher was too long and was not clear in terms of narrative. The art was generally good and easy to follow.

Thank NetGalley for giving me a copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review.

Most of these stories I have read. Though rereading them with the image makes it creepier. Oh, let me tell you how good and scary they are! I did enjoy going through the manga, appreciating the content inside, and feeling haunted by it. That's how i felt most of the tome.

When it came to Tell-Tale Heart, the creepiest story of all, it was haunting. Gosh, how I enjoyed these images! If you haven't read Poe, it is a fantastic way to dive in. The manga does help with getting into the content you usually wouldn't or are intimidating with.

I’ve read some of the Poe stories and I loved how the fine artwork accompanied his proses. For the ones I hadn’t read, it was told and portrayed in such a way that I could easily understand everything that was going on. I wasn’t struggling to figure stuff out. Great job to the artist for the nice artwork and arrangement. Thank you Netgalley and Manga Classics Inc. for allowing me to read this fabulous work!

I teach Poe and this would be very helpful for students. One thing they struggle with is the language of classics. The manga does a great job of combining the original text with images to clarify.

The stories are the perfect choice. I really enjoyed this series.
