Some of Poe's most popular stories are presented in comic book style in this fantastic book. The original text is used, and the illustrations are as creepy and atmospheric as Poe's writing. This will make an excellent addition to any middle school or high school classroom that already reads Poe's work, especially for students who struggle with the language. Any fan of Edgar Allan Poe will enjoy this collection, which includes "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Raven," "The Cask of Amontillado," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "The Fall of the House of Usher."

I liked seeing these stories that I've read so many times adapted as manga, the art looks nice and really conveyed the mood and atmosphere. Overall, very solid collection!

"I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review"

The Tales of Edgar Allan Poe is a brilliant collection of some of his best-known stories: The Tell Tale Heart (a murder s haunting guilt), The Cask of Amontillado (a story of brilliant revenge), and The Fall of the House of Usher (an ancient house full of very dark secrets). Also included in this collection are The Mask of the Red Death (horrors of 'the Plague'), and the most famous of all his poems: The Raven (a lover s decline into madness). Best read in a dimly-lit room with the curtains drawn, Poe s brilliant works come to life in darkly thrilling ways in this Manga Classic adaptation."

I have to admit first up that the only story I know by Edger Allan Poe is The Raven so being introduced to the stories this way probably wasn't the way to go for me. I just couldn't get into it the way I normally would any other manga.

In saying that the art work was so amazing I loved each and every page for that. I also enjoyed The Raven story in this manga, as well The Mask of the Red Death. I think with me and the way my mind works I would of loved this so much more if I hard read his stories in a more traditional way first them read this.

I still gave this 3 out of 5 stars because of the amazing art work and because I did enjoy some of the stories in here. I also think anyone who loves Edgar Allan Poe's work would also really enjoy this. This has got me interested in reading more of his work very soon.

Many thanks to Udon and Netgalley for the free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review. Great adaptation! I would have loved to see Red Death in color. That would have been quite striking. The heint was a superb rendering. Also the crowd scenes during Carnival in Casque were good. The people were well defined, didn’t look like a pile of shadows. I enjoyed the little fact snippets thrown in at the end of each story. Trivia gems are always appreciated. Another hit, Udon!

I love these Manga retellings of famous classics.

This one is no exception! I loved the artwork, and the story is well told and easy to follow.

I recieved this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

There was a lot to cover in this manga with five different stories. It could be made more challenging by how popularized Poe has been.

Where this struggled the most was in conveying the particulars of Poe's writing. Many of the stories were awkward or confusing because there is so much going on in the original narritives that the characters don't say.

Overall it fun and unintimidating.

I received a free copy of this for review from NetGalley **

This was my first ever Manga and I had so much fun with this. I love Poe's work and the art was a beautiful addition to his stories.

This book captures the eeriness associated with the Gothic works of Edgar Allan Poe. The art style contributes much to the atmosphere one can experience when reading this manga, and I could feel myself shivering slightly during certain points of these dark tales. The character's facial expressions were very believable! I enjoyed the stories they chose to put in this collection and look forward to seeing if they will do more of Poe's works in manga form in the future.

This book contained wonderful illustrations of some of my favorite stories from Poe. I'd highly recommend this version to anyone who loves his works.

This manga of Mr. Poe's brilliant tales is a delight to read. The images set up the mood of their own, adding up to the atmosphere and you will find yourself appreciating the fact that you picked up the manga instead of the usual large volume. A great deal of thought and effort has been put to present the cherished classic in the way most pleasing to the fans.

This also serves as a great beginner for people who are afraid to dive into the thick classics or anyone wanting to read them but are intimidated.

This is a great manga introduction to the fiction of Edgar Allan Poe. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The artwork was a fantastic addition to the already poetic stories of one of the masters of the macabre.

This is a beautiful collection of some of the most famous works of Edgar Allan Poe. It's not easy to depict the works of this great author, but this was a perfectly successful depiction. The stories (and poem) selected were, in my personal opinion, the most brilliant ones the author has written. The narrative of this great author was not altered, which i highly respect and deeply appreciate. Beautifully illustrated, the visual part of the manga synchronizes amazingly to the rhythm of the stories depicted.

Moreover, there were fun facts at the end of every story, and also a lot of information about the author himself. I also appreciated the useful tips about reading manga the original way!

This book is definitely recommended both for the fans of Poe, and for fans of manga and graphic novels.

I've never read manga before, but I think this was a great way to be introduced. Poe's stories are so delightfully creepy, and the illustrations in this were perfectly eerie and scary. I love that this form of comic might introduce more people to Poe's work.

This was okay, I am just not the biggest manga fan and it took me a while to get my head around the right to left reading way. I just don't personally feel this is the way Poe's work should be read; But it is an interesting way for Poe's work to be read by people who aren't normally interested in classics or poetry.

Comic Itself: 4/5

Written as a comic:4/5

The comics themselves are written and drawn nicely. I had hoped comic form would help enjoy Edgar Allan Poe's stories but even them couldn't help.

Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe, Stacy King, and multiple artists

4 stars

This is a collection of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous tales. I have never thought about what Poe’s work would be like it were translated into a manga medium, but I’m glad that I decided to request this on Netgalley because I have been a fan of the Manga Classics series, but I am also a fan of Poe. The two combinations cohesively melded together and made this collection very enjoyable. There was only one story in this collection that I did not like seeing brought to life, but besides that one failure, this collection is incredibly impressive and does a fantastic job of bringing Poe’s ominous style to life through haunting visuals.

The Tell-Tale Heart (Illustrated by Virginia Nitouhei) – 4.5 stars
I loved seeing this one brought to life, but it didn’t translate the lyrical suspense Poe relies heavily on in the story. I think that visuals took away from that hysterical maddening pace. I still really enjoyed the art in this one and there were times where I was chilled to the bone.

The Cask of Amontillado (Illustrated by Chagen) – 5 stars
This is one of my favorite Poe stories and it was so fun to see this brought to life. I’ve read this story multiple times now, so seeing it in a new medium really enhanced my appreciation for this tale and it was horrifying to see in images.

The Raven (Illustrated by pikomaro) – 4.5 stars
I don’t think that poetry translates well into manga. However, the final scene was incredible and it encapsulates the entirety of the story. That final image pretty much won me over and I can’t give it a lower rating because of that.

The Masque of the Red Death (Illustrated by Uka Nagao) – 4.25 stars
This was my first time reading this story and I think that because I have not read the original material the manga formatting confuddled me a bit. I was particularly confused by the plot, but I still really enjoyed reading this and I think it’s a haunting story.

The Fall of the House of Usher (Illustrated by Man Yiu) – 2 stars
I love this story, but it does not translate well into manga. There is a massive amount of description in the original story and it was attempted to be included in the panels. This made the experience very overwhelming and chaotic.

Art Scale (Overall Collection): 4

Overall, I definitely recommend this collection especially if you love Edgar Allan Poe. There were a lot of wonderful illustrations sprinkled throughout the pieces and it really captures Poe’s macabre vibe.

Cover Thoughts: It’s a nice cover, but it only uses art from The Tell-Tale Heart. I think if it had pieces from each story that would be much more inviting.

Thank you, Netgalley and Udon Entertainment, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Poe is always a great read, and the illustrations in this book enhance the creepiness factor. Since manga is loved by many students, I think that this version will be read by some students who otherwise may have not chosen to read it. They might even read some of Poe's other tales which are not included herein....
