3.75 stars--ALL RIGHT NOW is the third instalment in Madelynne Ellis’ contemporary, adult BLACK HALO erotic, romance, rock band series focusing on the members of the British rock band Black Halo. ALL RIGHT NOW is the continuing story of guitarist Ash Gore, and the woman he loves Ginny Walters-a woman whose been hiding a secret that is about to rock our story line hero’s life. ALL RIGHT NOW should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book two ALL FIRED UP in which Ash Gore finds himself hospitalized after an attack by a man he once considered family and friend.

NOTE: The BLACK HALO series is the companion to Madelynne’s ROCK HARD series. If you have not read the previous instalments there may be some spoilers in my review.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Ash and Ginny) ALL RIGHT NOW follows the ongoing relationship between Ash and Ginny, and the struggles as Ash comes to terms with the possibility that he may never play the guitar again. After a drug-induced fall caused by a band mate’s need to destroy Ash’s life, our hero becomes a shadow of his former self-a whining, angst ridden, embittered rock star who believes life as he knows has come to a crashing halt. With the help of the woman he loves, and another near tragedy involving his health, Ash begins a slow climb back to the man he once was but news of another kind is about to rock his newly, ordered world. What ensues is the growing love between Ash and Ginny, and the fall –out as Ginny’s past comes looking for revenge.

ALL RIGHT NOW focuses on the highly sexual relationship between Ginny and Ash, a relationship that is threatened by Ash’s injuries and self-pity, and the secret Ginny kept hidden from the man that she loves. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense, exploratory and provocative but once again, I take offense with the use of a certain four-letter word I find unnecessary in the romance genre. The author spends an inordinate amount of time focusing on the sexual relationship including our heroine’s use of sexual bribery in her dealings with our story line hero.

Ash’s reaction to Ginny’s secret is over the top but not unexpected. His own actions and the emotional fall out following the attack leaves me questioning his attitude and backlash aimed at the woman he loves, once her secret is finally revealed. Ginny’s timing of the revelation must also be questioned in light of the events that took place only days before.

Most of the previous story line characters and couples play secondary and supporting roles including rhythm guitarist Jan ‘Spook’ Mortensen; bassist (Paul) ‘Rock Giant’ Reed; front man and lead singer of Black Halo Xane Geist, new drummer Luthor Albrecht and their girlfriend Dani Fosbrook. I am looking forward to Rock Giant and Spook’s story lines

ALL RIGHT NOW is a story of one man’s struggle to accept all that has happened, and one woman’s undying love for a man she is about to destroy. The premise is engrossing; the romance is erotic, passionate and edgy; the characters are broken, animated and energetic. There are some geographic-specific expressions, words and British euphemisms that may not be familiar to North America readers.

I would also like to note that for new readers, the author writes two interconnected series –Black Halo and Rock Hard-both focusing on the members of the rock band Black Halo, and in this there is some confusion as to the time line of events (with some cross over and parallel time lines) and reading order. To the best of my knowledge, the reading order is below. There is another series, loosely connected to both of the original series-ANYTHING BUT… focusing on Xane’s cousin Rick Liddell.

Come Undone (Rock Hard #1)
All Night Long (Black Halo #1)
Remastered (Black Halo #1.5 )
Come Together (Rock Hard #2)
All Fired Up (Black Halo #2)
Come Alive (Rock Hard #3)
All Right Now (Black Halo #3)

Another great book in the Black Halo series. This is the third book in the series and picks up where the last one left off. This is Ash and Ginny's book and what a fantastic read I really liked these two characters and could not get enough, with great chemistry you will be sucked into their story and you won't want to put it down.A super addition to the series and a super emotional well-written romance.

Great story! Good friends are hard to find, so is love consequently. Great story. Drool worthy characters are well developed, complex even. How do you come back from hurt and betrayal? How do you recover trust and honesty? A must read, definitely recommend this book. I would love to read more Madelynne Ellis.

"Your heart knows exactly what it wants. It's just waiting for your head to get with the plan."

I've been a fan of the series from the beginning when I first met Ash & Ginny. When she was a groupie meeting the band for the first time. She was having fun, enjoying life, with no intentions of falling in love or eventually having a relationship. She'd actually decided that all relationships were off the table for her. But Ash changed her mind. Their passion was off the charts and she couldn't let him go.

When all hell broke loose at their last concert, the Black Halo band members circled the wagons to show their support to Ash who just happened to end up the accidental victim of a crime intended for another. They want Ash to resume his position as lead guitarist on their album and upcoming tour, but it's hard to hide their doubts regarding his ability to do so. They will soon be faced with the dreaded decision of going without him if he doesn't find a way to recover his lost abilities as a result of his injury. He knows he's only making it worse by letting his anger loose. Striking out at his band members and his girlfriend won't help anything, but his frustration is getting the best of him and his fear is doing the rest. His future is looking bleak and he's out of ideas.

Ginny has a secret. She hadn't planned on ever needing to share it because she never in her wildest dreams thought that she would end up being with Ash. But the longer she waits to tell him, the harder it becomes to do so. Now that he's been injured and is fighting for his future she needs to concentrate on helping him, not hurting him. Surely it can wait until they get through this latest hurdle? Well, as seems to always be the case, it didn't wait. As all secrets seem to do, it escaped without permission and wreaked havoc on the lives of those affected.

Ginny was his world. She had been there for him, helping him get better. When everyone else, including himself, gave up, she kept fighting for him. She found inventive ways to keep him working towards his recovery. She pushed and played and never let him quit. She stole his heart and made him depend on her, trusting that she would always be there for him. And then she betrayed him...

Will he ever get past the hurt and let her explain? Has she set him back in his recovery, risking his place in the band? Will he ever forgive her for not telling him the truth? Will she ever forgive herself? Do they have a chance at a future together? Can Black Halo overcome another scandal?

Who knows? Madelynne Ellis hasn't written the end of their journey yet. I admit I got a little confused with the intersections of the Rock Hard & Black Halo series. But according to my math, there is still at least one rocker that hasn't found his perfect mate yet. Paul needs to add another woman or two to the family to even out the numbers, right? See ya there. The line forms here...

I have to qualify this review by saying first that I haven't read any of the other books in this series, so I came into it blind. I did know it was part of a series, though, and expected to be a little lost, and I was. But not for long, I picked up fairly quickly what the basics were - Ash, a guitarist in the British band Black Halo, has been poisoned by someone they know - Iain, and has requested his girlfriend, Ginny, come to him at the hospital. So off Ginny goes, to see him, and ends up staying to take care of him when it becomes obvious he's not recovering as quickly as had been expected.

I was hoping for the kind of rock star I love - that is to say, starts off as arrogant and brash, but is brought to his knees by love, but unfortunately, that's not what I got. Instead, Ash really comes across as a class one ass. He's whiny, bratty, entitled and seems to be making no effort at all to recover and get himself better. The band seems taken aback, too, and does their best to accommodate him and pander to his obnoxious wishes, and I really, really wasn't feeling Ash. I liked his band mates and Ginny, though, they made the story interesting. But Ash, yuck, I didn't connect to him at all. I felt bad for him, being poisoned by someone, especially someone you knew, can't be easy on anyone. But he was just so...annoying and such a brat that I honestly don't know how Ginny and his band put up with him at all.

And then Ginny's big secret was revealed, yikes. I felt bad for Ash after that, too, but again, he took that entirely too far, also. Wallowing in self pity, whining (again!), going on and on and on until his band had to basically tell him to put up or shutup. Thank God Ginny came to make the grand gesture, because I had my doubts that Ash would ever have reached out and forgiven her if she hadn't forced the issue.

So, while I like Ginny and the rest of the band, and the sexy times are hot, I don't like Ash at all so I couldn't honestly justify a higher rating. I am interested in Xane's story, though, and will probably check it out.

No where in the blurb did it say that this is the 3rd book about this couple. I did not read the book seeing that more than 66% of their story wasn't in it.

All Right Now, Black Halo 3, Madelynne Ellis

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  New Adult, Romance

I've been following Black Halo since the beginning, and loved all the books so far. I was so keen to read this one but....it lacked the magic the rest have for me.

I know Ash had been through so much but he was so angry, so whiny, so - well, downright unpleasant much of the time. It felt like everyone was pandering to him, and that isn't the Ash I thought I knew.
I know serious illness/injury has some different effects on people but i just didn't like this ash, he felt very selfish, self centred.

Then Ginny, always so happy-go-lucky but hiding That?? I kind of understand why she didn't tell Ash at first, you don't spill your guts to someone on first meeting after all, but they've gone way way beyond that. To not tell Dani either? Her best friend, when they've been through so much together. It just didn't feel right.

Xane, Luther and Dani felt a bit off here too, I was unsettled that their relationship seems to be having issues, and though I've loved Xane in other books he seemed to be saying to both "I want you both, so tough if neither of you like it" and that didn't match with the guy I thought he was either.

Its a good book of course, Madelynne excels at creating great characters and settings, but for me this one fell short of the others. It didn't have that magic spark and it was a bit of a chore to get through. That's something I never thought I'd write but it is how I felt. I can see though that others love it so each to their own.
I'll still be keen to read more of Madelynne's stories, this is just a blip for me.

Stars: Three, a sad hiccup in a five star series for me.

2.5 stars
I enjoyed the music related aspects of this story and the depicting of a British rock band’s life. I guess the romantic plotline will be appreciated by younger readers but this is not really my kind of thing.
As I hadn’t read the previous books in the series (Black Halo) and those about Ash and Ginny’s story (this is the third part), I had a bit trouble keeping up with all the characters and their backgrounds.
There’s lots of telling and the dialogue sometimes feels stilted. Also, the hero’s physical issues, so important for the plot, were sort of forgotten in the last part of the story.

This is another installment in the rock romance series Black Halo and it picks up with Ash and Ginny. Their story is one of devotion, carnal desires, love and lies. As for devotion; I couldn’t think of a better word to describe their relationship with Ginny standing by Ash’s side both in and out of the hospital. Now for carnal desires; these two knew how to bring the other to their knees fulfilling their fantasies. Anytime love and lie are used in the same sentence you know one of them will win out in the end. So be prepared to follow the struggles that have plagued Black Halo as of late along with holding on tight just to see if Ash and Ginny will ever find the happiness and trust they were looking for.

I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.

Ash is an impatient man at times, “whatever.” He had a hard-on he’d very much like her to sit on right now, so yeah, he was in a bit of a hurry to progress with **** and get to the good stuff." When it comes to Ginny you don't have to tell Ash twice, “show me what you’ve got, Chief, and maybe we can discuss terms of engagement.” What he had was a effing raging hard-on. It didn’t take any persuasion to convince him to drop his jeans." I liked this book, I loved Ash.
