I really enjoyed this book, Love Colby as a character and did not feel wrongly described with his needs. The first book by author and cannot wait to read more. Now I do wish the ending would have been better it felt kind of rushed and incomplete, possibly needs a sequel.

Mia Ramirez is focused on her career and being a single mother to her son Colby. There is little room in her life and heart for anyone else. When NBA superstar, Keylan “KJ” Kingsley returns home to run the Kinglsey foundation, her world gets turned upside down. KJ manages to worm his way into not only her heart but her son’s.

KJ is trying to smooth out all of the kinks in his life. Doing community service at the foundation is a piece of cake. Trying to win over Mia is an entire story. Colby manages to help bring them together and KJ realizes he wants a family more than ever.

I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed An Unexpected Holiday Gift. This is my first book by the author and I am excited to read more by her. This book is the soft compromise of holiday spirit and realism that will appeal to people who don’t like over the top hokey holiday stories.

Mia has her heart broken plenty of times during the holiday season so she it is great that KJ helped warmed up her to the holidays. The only problem I had with the story is that Mia kept this constant wall up that interfere with her getting to know KJ. The constant tug of war became a bit tiring.

The family dynamic is strong. I low-key love Victoria, the matriarch, and her bossiness. I am interested in reading more about this family. Colby adds a specialness and thoughtfulness to the story. I really appreciated the author’s ability to use his special needs in a caring way.

Overall, if you are looking to get into the holiday spirit, then An Unexpected Holiday Gift is the perfect way to start.

Thanks to HQN Kimani for a copy of this book in order to review it!

I wanted something holiday themed to get me in the mood for writing my own book and the story of Mia and KJ were enough to do the trick. I fell IN. LOVE. with Colby, even though I am not a huge fan of children as plot devices. I loved the arc of Mia from hurt and embittered single mom who doesn't even decorate for Christmas to someone who could open her heart to find love again.

Will definitely put you into the Christmas spirit.
