While there are many great cookie recipes in this book, the best was The Sprinkle Chapter! I love the unicorn foods currently so trendy and this feeds right into my sparkly, glittery, crafting self! I intend to make every recipes in the coming months. I especially liked the Birthday Party Thumbprints, Soft Funfetti Chip Cookies. Pinata Cookie Suprises, and Giant Funfetti Cookie Pizza! Thank you, Sally McKenny! Great book!

Sally does it again with a great book on all things cookies. Cookies make anyone happy and I enjoyed making many of her tasty recipes.

This cookie cookbook is amazing! It enticed me to expand beyond my tried-and-true cookie recipes that I know my family loves, and each recipe I tried was a success. Now they have some new favorites!

This was an amazing cookbook. The directions are super easy to follow and is full of beautiful pictures. My family loved it that was I was approved for this ARC. I've made a couple of these cookies so far and my favourite recipe is for the rainbow kiss cookies.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC.

I'll admit it, I was a little bit of a snob going into this book.  I had been baking from the likes of Dorie Greenspan, Christina Tosi, Joanne Chang, and Elisabeth Prueitt and, as a blogger, Sally just did not have the same caché in my mind at that moment.  But that's not to say I had never baked from her books before.  Actually, I owned Sally's Baking Addiction and Sally's Candy Addiction already, and I regularly visit Sally's blog.

To my surprise, this book appealed to me so much, I baked from it the first day I read it.  For some reason, McKenney's books are always so approachable.  I think it helps that, at 75 recipes, the amount of choice is not overwhelming.  This number of recipes could be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it, but I appreciated it.

I tried three recipes and they all turned out quite well.  The first were the Autumn Spice Oatmeal cookies, chocked full with dried cranberries, pepitas, coconut, chocolate, and warming spice. I kept the dough in the fridge for a week and baked them off fresh, but the ones I didn't eat right away kept really well, too.  They were hearty and tasty, a really homey, simple cookie.  The next ones I baked were the Brown Butter Snickerdoodles, which tasted no different from normal snickerdoodles to me (could be my fault).  But normal snickerdoodles are tasty and dead easy to bake, if not entirely novel.  These actually tasted better after aging a day.  Finally, I made the Chocolate Peppermint Biscotti, which I shipped across the the continental US and Canada, and they held up in terms of taste and shape for two weeks, receiving rave reviews from my mother.  They were cute and festive, though half my dough was a little finicky and I had to bake it longer than written in the recipe.

All Sally's instructions are clear, and her headnotes make the recipes seem exciting and very doable.  There are very few finicky ingredients, too.

The cookies don't break a lot of new ground, but there are some exciting twists on old and approachable favorites.  There's a section on classics, which contains variations on chocolate chip and sugar cookies, a chapter on oatmeal cookies, and an entire chapter on shortbread, which has a lot of flavor combinations I'm excited to try, like coconut lime, chai tea, and coffee toffee.  You might argue, however, that this could have been written as one recipe with suggestions for variations as opposed to a bunch of different ones.  "The Sprinkle Chapter" veers into trendy Pinterest/Instagram territory a little much for me, but if that's your thing, it is a cute chapter.  I'm particularly drawn to the Rainbow Kiss Cookies myself.  The nut chapter, for me, has the same problem as the sprinkle chapter (again, this is just my baking style) with recipes that put me off a bit by using, for example, bright green pistachio pudding mix.  Stuffed cookies don't appeal to me much, either, and they make quite a few appearances.  The holiday chapter is packed with good stalwarts, though you can find a few on Sally's blog, so that's something to consider if that bothers you and you're not a person who likes/needs physical copies of recipes.  There's a whole chapter on chocolate if you're a lover of it (I'm not) and--one of the most exciting to me but unfortunately a little small--a chapter called Find Your Flavor with fun combos, like the ever-trendy pumpkin spice put into a sugar cookie.  (Though I want to try it, I have to think--couldn't it just be a variation written below the plain sugar cookie instead of an entire new recipe?)

In my experience with Sally's books, I find the recipes mostly reliable, but not necessarily so. I've had some fails with her other two books.

In honesty, I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an candid review, but I no longer have access to the review copy, and I would like to purchase a copy of this book to add to my collection.  That being said, I would not buy this book at full price, due to the small number of recipes, the repeats from the blog, and the number that simply do not appeal to me.  I do think, however, that this is a great book for someone early on in their baking journey who needs basic recipes, or for someone who has a baking style that aligns with Sally's a little more than mine, (i.e. sprinkles, stuffed cookies, candy in cookies, etc.).  There are also a lot of little, fun gems in it that I am excited to try, especially when I lean into my trendier, kitschier baking mood (I'm a sucker for pumpkin spice and and though the pistachio pudding puts me off the use of hot chocolate mix in the Hot Cocoa Cookies has me excited).

To sum up, it's a fairly reliable, approachable, concise little book that will seem superfluous to some bakers but fun and/or essential to others based on one's experience and taste. I think it's a 3 star book for some and a 5 for others.

I love baking cookies, especially for my son who’s away at college. When we dropped him off at school that first time, I sent several different kinds with him and kept him pretty much stocked the entire year. I was horrified to learn that my cookies were such a hit that a few members of the football team were offering to trade my son a fifth of whiskey for some. He assured me he didn’t take that trade, and I decided to stick my head in the sand and believe him. Now that my son’s a senior, I can even admit it was somewhat of a compliment to my cookie baking skills that college students thought them worthy of trading their booze for.

I follow Sally’s Baking Addiction on Bloglovin’, so when she had a cookie cookbook release I thought I’d try reviewing it. I can’t say reviewing a cookbook is something I’ll repeat anytime soon, at least not with an R2R from Netgalley. For starters, you can’t download it to your Kindle app, you have to use a special app to read it, and it’s not a very user-friendly one. I persevered and figured it out well enough to not only read the cookbook but also to make a couple of the recipe’s included.

In my read through, I was impressed with the number of tips included, many of which I already use. There was also a decent section on tools she recommends using along with key ingredients. The one thing she likes to use that I don’t is the silicone liners. I have one, but I’m a parchment paper girl myself, mainly because I don’t like cleaning the silicone liners. Parchment is just so blooming easy to use then discard. There were lots of colorful pictures included which I really appreciated.

Super Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
There was a huge variety of recipes included for all different kinds of cookies. The first one I tried was for the Super Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. I’ve got a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies that my family members clamor for but they are pretty futzy to make (think browned butter etc.), so I liked the idea of a quick and easy bar recipe.

Once I gathered the ingredients, these went together pretty fast. I liked the idea of making a sling type thing out of parchment paper making it easy to lift the bars out of the pan after they’d cooled a bit. This made cutting the cookies into bars really easy, and also meant I didn’t have to get that always awkward first piece out (especially since someone borrowed my itty bitty spatula that made this task easy, and never returned it).

The bars themselves were moist and flavorful. Both my husband and my son gave them two thumbs up, as did all my son’s friends when he carried them back to school.

Espresso White Chocolate Chunk Cookies
I let my son pick the cookie he wanted me to try next. With it being the weekend before finals, he chose Espresso White Chocolate Chunk Cookies thinking the more caffeine the better. Although not quite as fast to put together as the Chocolate Chip Bars, these went together fairly easy. My one complaint was that the chunks kind of sank into the dough making for some not very pretty cookies Topping them with a few white chocolate chips was suggested which did make them look better but was tedious to do. If I make these again, I’ll just go with the white chocolate chips instead of chunks and hope they show up better.

My husband and I were only able to snag one cookie each before my son and his girlfriend whisked them away. The coffee flavor went well with the white chocolate. The kids provided the final seal of approval when they called to tell me they were a hit amongst their study group.

Final Thoughts
Overall this is a nice little cookbook with some interesting recipes included. It would be perfect for a novice cook who’s just getting started with baking or who doesn’t do it often. It’s informative, easy to follow, and nice to look at. For me it was a bit too simplified but I did enjoy reading it and even got a few ideas for my own recipes.

Rating: 4 Cookielicious Stars.

I was given an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley and the author.

First, I want to start by stating that I am in no way a baker! I downloaded this book with the intention of trying one or two recipes. So far, I have successfully made the giant M&M cookies, hot cocoa cookies, and the shortbread. For someone who NEVER bakes and was apprehensive about attempting to bake, this book was definitely helpful. The author's recipes were easy to follow for the cookies that I made and the end results were delicious! Thank you to the author for giving me the confidence in my baking skills to attempt some of the more advanced recipes in the book this holiday season!

Beautiful cookbook! The cookie pictures are amazing & the recipes simple & tasty.

I had never heard of Sally McKenney before reading this cookbook but am a fan now.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Did I ever read this at the right time of year! I bookmarked FIVE recipes to make just for holiday giving: giant M&M cookies, soft-baked sugar cookie bars, butterscotch no-bakes for my Dad, hot cocoa cookies, and peanut butter-stuffed cookie cups. There are so many excellent recipes in here-- I added it immediately to my own Christmas wishlist because, if I don't get a copy of my own, I will have to transcribe half of my preview... and I plan to buy at least two copies to give as gifts. Happy baking!

This cookbook is absolutely amazing! The recipes are mouth-watering just by reading them and when you add in the pictures it is mind blowing! The instructions are very easy to follow and there is quite a range of different types of cookies to be tried. After sampling some of the recipes I can't wait to make every cookie listed in this book!

Amazing! Beautiful photography, funny and informative text that remains simple and accessible, and the most gorgeous and mouthwatering recipes!!! Sally gives detailed instructions and points out where it's likely you might go wrong and this gives you confidence to try recipes that, written by anyone else, I might find too intimidating! Highly recommended for both novices and experienced bakers alike.

A wonderful book about cookies weather you have been baking for years or just beginning. The beginning opens with what you need and how to start each recipe with fresh not expired dates. You also get many recipes and you get many useful tips along the way. Her royal icing recipe and the tip of how to use it form a bottle instead of a bag I found helpful. I have been making cookies for years and some of her tips, like don’t use a hot or warm cookie sheet I had to learn on my own. I also found some of her recipes that used molasses reminded me of my grandmother’s when she baked and I must say the flavor is much different. Overall a very good book and very good pictures also there is a recipe for dog treats that I thought was nice. A great book.

This is a yummy cookbook. I have been following Sally for a few years now and I have not had a recipe to disappoint me yet. I think this would be a good cookbook for my teenager that likes to bake. The recipes are easy to make and easy to understand. Thank you for letting me preview this book

I think the best way to describe this book is “fun”! It is a glorious, no excuses, sugar and calorie laden delight! Granted, there are a lot of recipes that are way too sweet for me ( I skipped the chapter dedicated to The Sprinkle and hence my 4 stars) but there were enough other recipes that really appealed. The Shortbread Jam Thumbprints were a great success (I’ve never rolled Thumbprints in chopped nuts before and they were delicious) and the Chai Tea Spiced Shortbread were superb. Lots of other recipes on my list to try, which is always an indication of a successful recipe book.
The book is divided into sensible chapters, making the initial search for a recipe simple. Instructions are very clear so the recipes would be easy for a beginner. Useful asides ( Sally says….) are good aids too. There are excellent photos of each cookie. As a European reader, I appreciated that ingredients were given in metric as well. All in all, a book I would be delighted to have on my cook-book shelf.

This was the review that appeared on Goodreads:

I received an advance copy of this from Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was quite literally salivating as I went through this book. The pictures that appear for absolutely all of the recipes were like the icing on the cake. These recipes look awesome and I can't wait to try them.

There's a good mix of traditional vs new feel good recipes featuring ingredients that seem to be so popular right now. I have never seen so many recipes with pistachios before in my life. But I'm definitely not complaining.

I'm an occasional seasonal baker. I'm not a pro but I'm also not a beginner. I appreciated the language used in this book and how straightforward it was. It literally seems to be idiot proof (I say that now but I guess only time and experimentation will tell).

Like I mentioned before, I love that Sally included pictures of every single recipe. This is so helpful since there have been so many times where I've made something and there's been no picture to compare it to and I find myself thinking, is it supposed to look like that?

Her tips are fantastic. Some I knew, others I didn't. Who would have ever thought to include a slice of bread in with your cookies to keep them moist????? Genius.

Great book. I'd purchase it for my friends and people new to baking. Can't wait to try the recipes for the holiday season.
