The One is the first book I've read by John Marrs, but it will not be the last. The beginning of The One is a little slow as the reader becomes invested in the many characters involved, but it is well worth hanging in there. The One brings a new concept to computer dating that doesn't seem that far fetched in these times. I was given an early copy to review.

This is an interesting concept. Does everyone have one perfect genetic match to another person? What happens if you are already in a relationship and find out that your match is someone else? What if they aren't who you are expecting. What if you get matched with someone of the same gender but think you are straight? What if that person is dead or dying? These are just some of the questions that make this book intriguing.

The book is broken up by the different people who have found their match. One is in a relationship and does the test reluctantly to please his partner only to be blindsided by the results, the others all have their own stories to tell and each is interesting in its own right. I wasnt' sure if I was going to like this book but I can see what the hype is all about. The end of each persons story is not at all what I was expecting which I really appreciate.

This is not a book of all sunshine and roses and not everything is what it seems. I think its more the concept than the actual book, that is fascinating although the book definitely keeps you interested. I mean who would have thought a serial killer and a cop would be matched? Its interesting to see how each of their stories plays out.

The plot is about matching DNA in order to find suitable partners for people and the different ways that life intervenes. It is a suspenseful thriller that I enjoyed; will also recommend to readers who are looking for a novel read. No pun intended!

Science or heart ? So you let DNW determine your mate or do you wait for the pattering of your heart?

Ok, first note to reader: beware, once you start this book, you WON'T be able to put it down. I tried putting this gem down to go to sleep, but I lost the fight. I wasn't able to set it down until it was done. The writing style flowed and held me captive. I enjoyed the way it was written. The reader is given a snippet into the different lives and they flip back and forth between them, so not one story is revealed in full at once. The way this story played out, reminded me of the movie Love Actually. But this story was so DIFFERENT and intriguing. As each layer was revealed, I was more and more drawn in. I wanted to know, WHAT'S NEXT?! I felt like I was on the edge of my seat because I wanted more. As each new thing was revealed, I wanted to know how and if their lives would intersect. It's a wide variety of characters, and they don't have that much in common but I wanted to piece it together. I thought John did a great job to keep me guessing. I wasn't prepared for the way things turned out and I was gasping out loud. Probably good that I wasn't somewhere public while I read this! This book held my attention and didn't let go until the last page. If you like a good thriller, then grab this book today!

The One takes us into a world where you can submit your DNA to find your ideal match, the one person in the world that is your true love. Would you do it? After reading this book, the answer would be “Oh, hell no!” We are able to follow different couples that find their matches, although the secrets everyone has can go deeper than you can imagine.

This book took a little getting used to since there were 5 distinct relationships / stories going on which made it a little difficult to keep straight. However each couple had their drama, and some secrets were slowly revealed to their ‘perfect’ match. I thought this book was very original. It makes me not want to get into a relationship again because the secrets one keeps could be deadly. A creepy thriller!

What a fabulous book. Not my typical read, but I am so glad that I gave it a shot. It had me hooked right from the beginning. I can't wait to read more by this author.

I went into this thinking it would be a fun, yet predictable read, but boy was I wrong. There were so many different story lines twisting and turning that I was never able to predict a single moment. Every few pages would leave me going, wait, what? At first, I thought the number of characters would be too much to keep track of, but they all have their own distinct story so it becomes easier as the book progresses to keep up with everyone. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good suspenseful novel full of surprises.

Huh. I know my fic kink is soulmate stories, but damn, son. I would have been fine not reading this book because I think the whole 'soulmate' thing in fic has been ruined a little, and that makes me sad.

Incredible read! I was mesmerized from the very beginning. For a while I thought I had it "figured out", but the twists at the end definitely surprised me. The One has such an interesting premise. I've seen the ads on TV for DNA testing to find out your ancestry. The One made me think about just what is possible now and what might be possible in the future. As I read, I thought of all the people I know who will enjoy reading this book.

Wow! What an intense Thriller slash Romance slash Sci-Fi extravaganza. I mean when a book boast of dabbling in all of these genres at once, yes, I will accept it as a challenge just to find out if the blurb is overreaching, even a little.

In no way was this an ambitious reach. In this futuristic world a person's perfect match is based entirely on DNA matching. True love can only be attained by finding this match, your one and only match and paying a small fee for the results. As you can imagine this can present many many challenges, or interruptions considering where you are in your life. Through five separate couples, the reader is exposed to a new way of finding your Happy Ever After, and it is filled with such unexpected suspense along with carefully placed characters to make you that much more wary. I just dare any reader to walk away from this story without seeing it to the cumulative explosive endings.

Thrilling twist to a highly popular subject, love. How far would you go? How much would you sacrifice? How much trust would you put in technology and science? This novel leaves you thinking and pondering the big questions.

WOW!
What if you could take a DNA test and find your perfect MATCH? The One is about just that! Your perfect match! The One whose DNA is belongs to your heart specifically. What if you were already in a relationship with your not so perfect match? What if you are a man and your match is also a man but you're not gay? How about if your match is a murderer? The Match has changed many lives all around the world. Some are wonderful stories and some are heartbreaking but when you play the role of God with people's lives there is usually a price to pay.
I didn't want to put this one down! Suspenseful page turner!

This was a truly interesting read. The book follows five couples, each with their own issues, that have been "Matched" through a for-profit company that looks for pairs according to DNA compatibility. The premise is that there is only one other person on the planet that "Matches" with any other. Some don't have a "Match" and DNA does not take gender into account.

The book doesn't really fit well into any one category which I like. I question some of the scientific details but, otherwise (with a suspension of disbelief) it was fascinating. I thought I had it figured out and then would come a twist. The psychology of the individual characters is complex. This held my attention and kept me reading long after I should have put the book down for the night.

Wow. The One by John Marrs was not what I expected and is hard to describe. I thought it might be similar to Crosstalk by Connie Willis, but it is not a romance, or at least, not a traditional romance. It is creepy and thought provoking.

In The One, we meet and follow five people who have been Matched by the newest service. Send in your DNA and it will scientifically Match you with your perfect DNA partner. You only have one Match – and the person may be older than you, or younger, or dead, or they may not have submitted their DNA yet.

What would you do if you were happily married? Would you submit your DNA to see if you married your Match? And if you weren’t, would you leave your spouse? What if you were straight and matched with someone of the same sex? Or gay and matched with someone of the opposite sex?

Although the concept of having only one perfect DNA Match didn’t seem logical to me, I got completely caught up in the stories of the five people we meet who have been Matched. Two are men, three are women, and one is a psychopathic serial killer.

Their stories were not always enjoyable, but I did want to keep reading to find out what would happen next. The stories don’t all have happy endings, and those that do may not be the ones you expect. Although I saw a few plot twists coming, there were a lot that surprised me.

This is not a perfect book; I had to pretend to buy in to some stuff that I didn't find plausible. But if you are looking for a an unusual book about love, matchmaking services, and social media, you might want to read The One.

I read an advance reader copy of The One. It is scheduled to be published in February 2018. It is scheduled to be published in February 2018 and will be available at the Galesburg Public Library in print and as an ebook.

An amazing psychological thriller I could not put down. Imagine finding your soulmate through a DNA test. 5 couples do,just that but all is not as it seems. I don't want to give anything away but Marrs writing is unique, and this is a novel not to be missed.

Dating apps are obsolete now that Match provides you with the name of your perfect mate using a DNA sample. Officially Matched couples are regarded more favorably than random people, so even those who have a mate want to find their “soulmate” through the science of DNA. We follow several people through this compelling page-turner, but there are so many lies it’s hard to know whom to believe. Are these Matches real? The service claims a high accuracy rate, but supposed you are matched with a dead or terminally ill person, or worse, a serial killer? A refreshingly different plot makes this unique thriller a must-read.
