Wow!

What can I say?

Well, whatever I say it could not do this book justice.

Belle is a hardworker who dreams of falling in love...just not right now and definitely not to a man she barely knows. But faced with the decision of marrying Adam Herschberger or going homeless, marrying Adam doesn't seem like such a bad idea. But Adam's secret past and scarred face only tells Belle that there's more to him than meets the eye. But can she break through to him.

I simply loved, loved, LOVED this book. The characters were engaging and had me on the edge of my seat since the first page.

I read this in two settings. (It would have been one if I didn't need my beauty sleep) But I highly recommend this book. It is appropriate for all readers.

A sweet retelling of Beauty and the Beast with an Amish twist, Price delivers a cozy little read. It isn't much different from the original--just minus the magic and the actual Beast form. Instead, it focuses on a man who was a burn victim as a child and grew increasingly mean and reclusive as his Amish community ridiculed him.

Thankfully this was not an instalove romance. It was also nothing very new, but I found myself invested in Adam and Belle as people and stayed up late into the night so that they could get their happy ending all the faster.

If you need a quick, happy read, this one is for you. However, with the Amish focus, it also includes Christian lessons. I had no issue with this and took great comfort in the lessons it taught, but others that are not as religious may not enjoy this one.

Thank you for NetGalley, Sarah Price, and Kensington Books for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A nice, sweet clean read set in an Amish community. The pace is slow, really slow, yet I found the story enjoyable, although quite predictable and preachy sometimes.
The scarred grumpy hero – sometimes too grumpy, throwing tantrums – is an added bonus. His hidden kindness is also quite intriguing and appealing. Belle is just the right woman to heal him and make him open up.
Although I enjoyed the depiction of the Amish lifestyle, I found the community’s meanness and lack of compassion for Adam a bit too basic to be true (and totally unchristian, of course).

I enjoyed reading “Belle” by Sarah Price. It is written in the theme of the old story “Beauty and the Beast”, but as an Amish fable. I thought that the theme might be contrived or senseless, but I thought Ms. Price did a good job of incorporating the beauty and beast story. I thought that her characters were not stereotyped from the original, but really quite refreshing. I needed a lighthearted novel to lighten my mood and this was it.

I am looking forward to the next in the series, “Ella: An Amish Retelling of Cinderella”. Ella was one of the characters in this book and I am anticipating a good read.

I am a lover of Beauty and the Beast so when I came upon this book on Netgalley I decided to give it try. What I wasn't expecting was to enjoy this book as much as I did. Thank you to Netgalley for an ebook copy of this cleverly written story in exchange for an honest review. The author did a great job adapting the well known story into a different story involving the many of the same things that were in the original.
I loved the way other storybook characters were written into this story and the main characters didn't stray far from their well known personalities. It was interesting to learn about some of the Amish ways, as that is the lifestyle that these people live.
Great job!

Honestly, all buggies look alike to me. I will have to take more notice the next time I'm in Lancaster.

Belle walked? Yikes.

Her sisters sound really selfish and childish.

I bet Adam lives in the stables.

Three hours at church?

She sure cries a lot.

This is a sad wedding. But I think she should give Adam a chance. He seems to be "interested" in her.

I am learning so much about Amish life.

He hasn't had anyone to talk to for years. I can understand why he finds her talking annoying.

Children learn by example, John.

A horse auction does sound like a fun date.

Ha, an Amish woman who knows how to pick a lock?

Oh, a twist. But how come no one else in the community knew that it was his grandparents' farm? It wasn't that long ago.

A huge bravo goes out to Sarah Price for her book "Belle" an Amish retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I don't care how old a girl/woman is, we all need to read a few fairy tales to be reminded that there is a happily ever after! Sarah Price has taken this wonderful tale and crafted it into a sweet story that fits perfectly into an Amish community. Her use of scriptural verses and stories throughout the text bring a rich Biblical presence to the novel.

The story begins with Belle, an Amish woman, living with her 2 sisters and widowed father on a run down farm due to lack of income. When Belle's father, in desperation, sells the farm to pay off a large debt, his buyer is a recluse, a disfigured man known in the town as the Beast. Belle, hoping to save her family from becoming homeless, agrees to marry the Beast, known as Adam Hershberger, to save the homestead. And so the story begins...

I won't give the plot away because it is such a beautifully told tale that it deserves to be read. All I will say is that Sarah Price has successfully merged Amish fiction and a fairy tale that will lift up your heart and reassure you that true love is alive and well in Christian fiction!

I received an ARC ebook from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah Price has started a new series of Amish Fiction based on well-known fairy tales. The first one is a modern-Amish retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

Belle is the youngest daughter of Melvin Beiler and the one who does most of the work around the house while Melvin works on his inventions. Little do Belle and her sisters know is that their father has frittered away his money on his newest invention and the mortgage is about to come due.

Adam Herschberger is a man scarred from a fire that killed his mother. Children look at him and run from him, calling him a beast. Townspeople look the other way when he comes into town, or they stare with undisguised disgust.

Adam has bought the Beiler farm and has put into motion the eviction of Belle and her family. He has paid a generous amount for the farm, but it won't take care of all the bills and give them enough to find another place to live. Belle approaches Adam to see how she can save the farm so her family won't be homeless. He is willing to allow her family to stay on the farm if she will marry him and give him a son to inherit her family's farm.

Melanie Dickerson has written several Young Adult books based on fairy tales and I have enjoyed all of them, but I love how Sarah Price has not only put this one together, and how she's planted the seed for the next ones in the series. Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and some homemade cheese from your very own dairy.

My thanks to Kensington Books for allowing me to read and review this book.

I didn't like this book at first, but I'm glad that I stuck it out through the first couple of chapters because it got a lot better. While I"m not so much for the occasionally over-the-top Disney and fairy tale references, I can see how it would appeal to some. The story itself is a strong one that parallels Beauty and the Beast, but without copying it. It is a wholesome love story.

This is the first book I have read from Ms. Price (even though I have all her Amish Classics series on my kindle) and the first Amish romance I've ever read. It's a retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in the Amish community and I have to say that I liked it. Our hero is very brooding after a tragic accident where his mother died and he got severely burned. Our heroine is very bookish and way too nice for her own good. I really did enjoy this book and now I want to go start her Amish Classics series. I very much recommend picking this book up when it's released at the end of October.

An interesting twist on the fairy tales with an Amish setting. This one has Belle and Adam, the Beauty and the Beast story. Naturally, he is not a beast, but was scarred as a child in a fire. Many cruel and judgemental people, and a lot of anger and sadness. I enjoyed the story, although it took a bit to get into the story. The build up in the beginning was a little slow, but once she married him it picked up. There is also a Cinderella story that is shown here, and the teaser at the end of the book shows it to be the next in the series. One of their friends disappears, and no mention is given on what happened, leaving the story there hanging. Would recommend this story and series.

I enjoyed this amish version of beauty and the beast. It was a very realistic, non-magic version that I really enjoyed.

Belle was so heartwarming and charming that I stayed up a good part of last night reading, and finished it tonight after work! I could not put it down! Sarah Price is such a talented storyteller to be able to weave an Amish novel that is a twist on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. I love Amish novels and I love Beauty and the Beast so this novel is a winning combination! When Belle reluctantly agrees to marry loner Adam Hershberger, so that her widowed father and her sisters can keep the family farm, she knows very little about Adam. Only that he is reclusive, and that he bears scars from childhood burns that cause people to be fearful of him or mock him. These actions by her fellow Amish trouble her, and they trouble her even more so as she gradually learns the many kind traits of her new husband. He is quite fearful of rejection and is quite slow to show his true self to Belle, though he already loves her deeply. Her close friends and her sisters all question her marriage to Adam, though her close friend Ella does start seeing his kindness. To see how Belle and Adam open up to each other is beautiful and inspiring. I wholeheartedly recommend Belle to fellow readers!

Sarah Price has indeed demonstrated her versatility as an author—writing fine stories of contemporary women's fiction, Amish novels, and re-tellings of exemplary classics combined with the Amish. Her latest, 'Belle' a re-telling of the beloved 'Beauty and the Beast' is not only heartwarming, but includes a much needed lesson for all!

Poor Belle. She is the epitome of everything that is good in her Amish community. To enable her impoverished family to keep their home she does something courageous that I could never have done, accepting a marriage proposal from a man dubbed as The Beast to most of the townsfolk. Adam Herschberger is seemingly as awful as rumors claim and his manners to sweet Belle are atrocious! Scarred, disfigured, and strangely silent Adam is an enigma to be sure, but Belle is determined to be a good wife to him. Scrubbing his creepy, filthy farmhouse and cooking healthy meals are first on the agenda, with no thanks in return. I so wanted to box Adam's ears and wholly expected Belle to opt out of her "agreement." I can't begin to tell you how sorry I felt for this innocent maiden. Will her kindness and ability to see the man under the scars guide Adam to a new life within his Amish community? And will love eventually conquer all?

Belle is a delightful, heartrending fairytale sure to bring out the inner child in each of us! From childhood we've all heard the phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." As in Adam's case the words that followed him all through life left an indelible impression on him, and he actually became what was spoken of him...a beast of a man. Price has interweaved a thought provoking thread of what Christ's love really entails...acceptance of those who are different, forgiveness, unconditional love, and restoration. Highly recommended read!

I received a copy of this novel from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review.
